Soooooo Kudiev beat Tobier at last years worlds and barely lost to Tevanyan (who we all know got upset by Seabass) so he didnt get a chance at bronze. In this tournament he TECHED Mamedov to start (who is clearly one of the best wrestlers in the world) that alone elevates him to "not a slouch" in my book As far as Aghayev goes? Yeah, he's newer to the scene with limited results, but he was a finalist who also beat Kudiev.... good tournament

he didn't lose to slouches though https://cdn.uww.org/2024-03/results_03_antalya.pdf

Why do I like Retherford as the most "dependable" to qualify the weight? Is that what you're asking? I mean we will send whoever is the rep, but I would have the most confidence in him. I think he's always been pretty consistent, but these last couple years, I think he's turned a corner. Not wrestling close matches, getting separation, beating the best 70kg guys. I just think he has the best shot.

Jordan's match
-
According to the Cavalier Wrestling club: Jay Aiello to the finals at yasar dogu in Turkey! Wrestling against 97 kg World Champ from Baran. Nice. Wish results were easier to find

Pennsylvania RTC @pennsylvaniartc Jordan wins 5-1 over Toktomambeto of Kazakhstan to move on to the finals of the Yasar Dogu! He’ll have Rassadin of Tajikistan.
-
Another twitter result worth noting Abdulmazhid Kudiev shocks Shamil Mamedov and beats him 10-0 Notable because Mamedov has seemed unbeatable and Kudiev could be a another potential roadblock at 65kg out of that Asian qualifier
-
From Twitter (going to look for other people's results) Jordan won 9-2 over Murat of Azerbaijan in the preliminary round Jordan wins 8-1 over Ozmus of Turkey and will have Toktomambeto of Kazakhstan in the semi-finals.

I think those are the 2022 results but I like it either way!

Incentive is a strong factor. In the event a weight isn't qualified if you added some WTT Advancement for the person that qualified the weight. Basically as if they're a returning medalist. Maybe that would get all eligible athletes to care. Maybe not. 20k bonus for anyone that qualifies a weight, from worlds or from pan ams. Eh theres a million ideas, but I bet USAW is well ahead of us. They'll fix it up for next cycle.

I didn't read most of the comments, cause they're awful. But... so obviously first criteria was: "Be the world team rep from the previous year".... which really feels an all encompassing competition that adequately reflects pecking order at the weight. Secondly: (Stole this from an old @Wrestleknownothing post citing the rules) may be repeated in this post but here. "This year USAW altered their criteria to determine who to send to the Continental Qualifier. Rather than automatically send the World Team member at the weight they have the following allowance for challenges: A senior world medalist, at any weight, within years (2019-2023) will be given the opportunity to challenge the 2023 Senior World Team Member for the spot. a. If there is more than one challenger in a weight, there will be a single elimination tournament to determine who will challenge the 2023 World Team Member. b. There will be a best of three series between the 2023 Senior World Team Member and the challenger to determine who will earn the spot. For men's freestyle this only potentially affects 57kg and 65kg." Man this seems REALLLLLLLLLLY INCLUSIVE and fair and at 65kg we had a match. at 57kg Gilman, Fix, and Vito all had the option to challenge and did not. What more do you want brother

Yeah I agree there's basically no shot at making the team and if thats what makes it worthwhile, just retire, but if he's going to compete with the intention of giving himself the "best" shot at making the Olympics. 65kg feels like 5% 74kg feels like a true 0% I hope he shows out in his last rodea and does something strange JO style. But.... I'll guess he wins his opening bout against somebody random like Kaleb Larkin, and then loses to a top-dog and thats that. GREAT CAREER

Dude... How ridiculous are people. This is David Taylor 6.0 From fans to athletes. Everything is fine until I lose. Until my guy loses. Until I don't get the result I desired. OVERHAUL THE SYSTEM to where my preferred rep, does nothing to earn the spot, and wrestles people he could beat. Oh he lost to Columbia well they're a well known drug country and I dont think the PAN AMS should support DRUGS, We should lobby to have them kicked out. ITS F*CKING WILD, ieqrbighqejhgilqehg2iegbweilgb2eigbeqk I hate how "GOOD OLE BOY 'MERICA" my community is

Just going to post this here for my international brethren. I crap on my wife's son, I guess my step-son , all the time for not getting out in the real-world and doing real things. (Kids a gamer who can't bench 80lbs at 17years old.) But I have to admit, sitting online and talking nonsense with a bunch of water-heads all day about whether wrestler A is superior to wrestler B based on who stepped out with 4 seconds left in the match, brings me entirely too much joy.

Chamizo was the ultimate weight cutter, but has learned his abilities translate as he just gets bigger and bigger. He's never going to be huge for any weight, he's just supremely talented. The other posters who have referenced how far Green knows he is from the 74kg guys like Dake and Burroughs. Are saying what I believe is the truth. He knows he just doesn't have the attributes to compete higher than 70kg. Whether it's height, weight, mental hurdles, whatever I don't feel like it's speculation. I mean his ENTIRE LIFE since college has been FS wrestling, most of which, training with the World Champ. I know we like to fancy ourselves wrestling geniuses, but if he was smoking 74kg guys in the room when he wasn't cutting or trying to bulk.... I think we'd see members of the USA Wrestling staff and his personal coaches pushing for him to move up in weights. I'm sure he doesn't like killing himself with a weight cut. He has however, wrestled very close matches, or beaten, many of the top 65kg guys when they've attempted to bump. I think if he can control the physical hurdles of moving down (Which I'm guessing he has a grip on) I think you're going to be surprised by how he competes. But also at 31, and taking a year or so off.... maybe he just doesn't have it anymore. But going where you're most confident, may have a little strength advantage, know the competition well, for your LAST SHOT EVER of making an Olympic team. Seems more enticing then coming out of "retirement" to hope for the opportunity to get Dake Bombed, or blast doubled by your old training partner, but more realistically lose to a number of up and comers in the earlier rounds. I can't formulate a realistic argument that moving up would be the superior move.

65kg is the big question mark. There will undoubtedly be 2-3 wrestlers in the bracket we will not be favored to beat. (Obviously we have talent and can beat just about anyone who hasn't qualified on any given day) 65kg will be really really really draw dependent. And if its not Zain (Save for Destribats), I feel like everyone at the weight has a head-scratcher of a close match each time out. If it comes to qualifying the weight. Despite his previous fiasco. I like him to do it. We'll see who the rep is and hold our breath. 57kg the weight seems deeper than it is. Micic, Japan (probably Higuchi), Hartutyunyan, Abakarov, Uguev, are all qualified. You should see 4 of Iran, Kaz, India, China, Mongolia, Uzbek which are clearly the biggest hurdles, and catching one or 2 of them with a bad draw, could be our undoing. They all have very competent reps. But I feel like we have some of the top guys in the world with a shot at world finalist on the right day . So I would favor us against anyone, but obviously we can lose. 65kg to qualify I'll say 35% 57kg to qualify give me 65%

Anyone have a source on the brackets? I know Greco is winding down and we are about to get FS draws. I've been hunting Greco brackets so I'd know where to go for FS but I'm at a loss. Sorry guys. All updates and sources appreciated.

I think if he can figure out how to not be dead when he cuts he has a chance of competing with those guys. On the other hand.... I don't think he can ever grow into a real 74kg guy, he's just too small for the weight
-
He's chasing a dream, and he's giving himself the best possible shot at making the team. It's this or represent another country and have Pyles hunt him down for reprimand

Eh, it just feels like what we all already said here on the forums. I dont think Pyles has many relevant points. Ben was right, its nice to see our wrestlers get a chance where-ever they can. And they all were right. These were 2 guys we didn't think could actually beat us and dont have a real shot at a medal in the olympics. Just felt like they formed their opinions from these message boards lol but yeah Go Ben, the voice of reason -
