LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Senior Nick Corba won the 184-pound title to help lead the Cleveland State University wrestling team to the team championship at the inaugural Mat-Town Open II Sunday inside Thomas Fieldhouse. The Vikings posted 110.5 points to top the nine-team field, all of which were Division I schools. "We had a lot of good matches, and I think the format of the tournament was set up nicely," head coach Ben Stehura said. "We still need to continue to improve though." Corba had little trouble in securing the title at 184 pounds. He won there of his four matches with major-decision shutouts, with the only exception of the quartet coming against a teammate competing unattached. He began his day with an 11-0 victory over an opponent from Penn before topping a conference foe competing unattached, 10-0. After an 8-4 victory via decision in the semifinals, Corba won the title with an 8-0 victory over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent competing unattached. Corba, who has won six matches in a row, improved to 18-6 on the season, with 13 of his victories being of the bonus-point variety. Sophomore Evan Cheek and senior Nick Montgomery both posted runner-up finishes in the event. Cheek began his day at 141 pounds with a 22-7 technical fall victory over a Eastern Wrestling League foe. He advanced to the finals with a 2-1 decision over an athlete from Pittsburgh before falling via decision in the finals. With his victories, Cheek improved his team-leading win total to 20 this season. He is now 11-0 in matches that end with a fall or technical fall. Montgomery went 3-1 on the day to take second place at 149 pounds. He picked up a win via fall in less than one minute and also posted a 17-1 technical fall victory. Montgomery's final win was a 10-9 decision over an opponent from Penn. Montgomery moved his season record at 149 to 12-9, including a 6-1 mark in matches ending in pins. Freshman Devon Pingel defeated every opponent he faced Sunday at 174 pounds in posting a 4-1 mark and a third-place finish. After a six-point win in his opening match, Pingel dropped his quarterfinal bout by a single point. He fought back with a win by fall in his first consolation match before winning again by six points to reach the consolation final. In the third-place match, he took down the athlete that had beaten him in the quarterfinals. Pingel now owns 17 wins on the season. Redshirt freshman Ryan Montgomery won three matches on the day, including a win by fall and a 3-1 decision over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent. He finished fourth at 157 pounds. True freshman Michael Furbee dropped his opening match of the day but battled back to win each of his next two bouts, including claiming a second-period pin, the first win by fall of his collegiate career. He would finish fourth at heavyweight. Redshirt sophomore Andrew Coghill posted a 2-1 record at 133 pounds to finish third. True freshmen Spencer Dusi (133) and Collin Kelly (197) both picked up wins by fall on the day as well. Cleveland State will conclude EWL action this coming weekend with duals Friday at Edinboro and Sunday at home vs. Clarion.

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The No. 14 Sun Devils (8-4, 2-1 Pac-12) faced an early deficit before Josh Maruca turned the tide with an upset of Oregon State's Joey Delgado at 149 lbs. Three pins in four matches and five bonus point wins in the last six matches lifted Arizona State to a 33-11 win vs. the Beavers. The Devils handed the Beavers (3-6, 2-1 Pac-12) their first conference loss of the season. The match marks the Devil's second three-pin win of the season (also Jan. 8 vs. Cal Poly) and second match with five bonus point victories of the season (also Jan. 13 vs. Bucknell at VA Duals). ASU has now earned a dual win vs. the Beavers in three of the teams' last four matches. "Overall, it was a good effort," said head coach Zeke Jones. "We went from three-a-days last week to two-a-days this week so the extra rest made them feel like animals. It's still too early to rest so we'll ramp it back up next week." At 125, Josh Kramer took an early 8-0 lead on two takedowns and a four-point near fall before Kegan Calkins pulled within four, 11-7, while keeping just a single foot in bounds. Kramer would ultimately give the Sun Devils the early 3-0 lead on a 12-8 decision. After Joey Palmer gave the Beavers a 5-3 lead on a tech fall at 133, Oregon State extended their lead, 8-3, on a decision at 141 decided only by riding time. In the first ranked matchup of the day, No. 18 Joey Delgado took an early lead, breaking up a mid-match tie on a stall call on No. 23 Josh Maruca. Maruca would respond with a two-point near fall and a takedown to earn a 9-5 comeback decision to bring the Devils within two, 8-6, heading into the heart of the order. At 157, Josh Shields took a 6-2 lead midway through the second period and ultimately pinned Abraham Rodriguez 4:33 minutes into the bout as the Sun Devils regained the lead, 12-8, ultimately for good. After the 10-minute break, Anthony Valencia earned the Devils' second straight pin at 165 lbs., just 2:01 into the first period, his team-leading ninth of the season. In a similar move to earlier matches, Jacen Petersen moved down a class to 174 lbs., a coaching decision that paid off as Petersen earned his first major decision of the season, 18-7, to put ASU ahead, 22-8, going into the final three weights. Zahid Valencia took little time, just 1:21 for ASU's ninth fastest fall of the season, to pin Seth McLeod. The Sun Devils' third pin of the match and Z. Valencia's 29th win of the season officially put the match out of reach for the Beavers as ASU took a 28-8 lead. Oregon State's Corey Griego earned a 11-4 decision at 197 before David Henry made an appearance for Cody Crawford at heavyweight to face Tanner Hall. Hall put an exclamation point on the match with his first tech fall of the season, winning 23-8. "[Josh] Maruca's turn on top and Tanner [Hall]'s multiple takedowns were a culmination of a lot of time and work in the wrestling room. Coaches Matt Kraus and Chris Pendleton have put a lot of time into them so it's paying off." This week, the Sun Devils return home to host CSU Bakersfield, a match broadcast once again on Pac-12 Network Arizona on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7pm before closing the regular season at Boise State on Sunday, Feb. 12 (5 pm MT). BOONE, N.C. -- With first place on the line, the day wouldn't get any less dramatic over the course of 10 weight classes as Appalachian State University wrestling went to the tie-breaking rules to defeat Chattanooga, 17-16 (55-54), on Sunday afternoon in Varsity Gym. The 16th-ranked Mountaineers (12-2, 6-0 Southern Conference) were tied with the Mocs (5-9, 3-2 SoCon) at the end of the match, 16-all. The first tiebreaker is the total amount of weight classes won, but even then, the two teams were tied at five apiece. The tie-breaking rules then dictated that the winner is whoever has the most match points when all individual weight classes are added up. Appalachian finished with 55. Chattanooga finished with 54. The Sunday matinée action began at the heavyweight class as two nationally ranked wrestlers squared off. Senior Denzel Dejournette (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) ranked No. 9 in TrackWrestling's polls, while UTC's Jared Johnson ranked No. 9 in InterMat. Both wrestlers battled hard, but Dejournette would bring the attack early on, taking a lead and never giving it up to outlast Johnson, 10-4. At the 125-pound weight class, No. 22 senior Vito Pasone (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./E.L. Meyers) took on Alonzo Allen and got the lone bonus point match for the Mountaineers on the day. Pasone downed Allen 15-4 in a major decision to put App State up 7-0. Chattanooga fought back hard though at the 133- and 141-pound matches, crawling within one point, 7-6, by winning them back-to-back. Chris Debien downed No. 21 freshman Colby Smith (Wentzville, Mo./Holt) in a barn-burner, 2-1 decision, while Chase Zemenak defeated sophomore Irvin Enriquez (Aberdeen, N.C./Pinecrest) in another close 8-5 decision. The Mountaineers, however, would answer strong back, rattling off three-straight weight class victories beginning at 149 pounds. No. 15 sophomore Matt Zovistoski (Paramus, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) took down Roman Boylen in a 7-3 decision before freshman Gavin Londoff (St. Louis, Mo./Holt) won out a tight contest at 157 over Dylanger Potter, 3-1. No. 28 junior Forrest Przybysz (Jefferson, Ga./Jefferson) also had to edge out the victory, but did so without allowing a point himself, winning 2-0. The Mocs, however, would come back to tie the match by winning the final three weight classes of the day. Sean Mappes downed No. 17 junior Nick Kee (Laurinburg, N.C./Scotland) in UTC's lone major decision of the day, 17-7. No. 19 Bryce Carr took down No. 30 junior David Peters-Logue (Hillsborough, N.C./Scotland) in a close 9-4 decision. And sophomore Randall Diabe (Greensboro, N.C./James B. Dudley) was unable to defeat Clay Dent, 5-1, as Chattanooga tied the match up 16-16 and forced the tie-breaking scenario. The Mountaineers will go on to wrestle in their last SoCon match at VMI on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. Looking to remain perfect through league play for the first time since 2011-12 and win the conference regular season championship outright, a win on Wednesday will allow Appalachian State to host the 2017 NWCA Division I Dual Championship Series presented by The United States Marine Corps and Theraworx. EDMOND -- The University of Central Oklahoma wrestling team beat Fort Hays State 30-9 Sunday to finish the 2016-17 season 18-0, marking the first time in school history the Bronchos have went undefeated, and pushing Central's school-record win streak to 25. UCO also wrapped up the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association dual championship with the win. It's the second MIAA title for the Bronchos in five years in the league. “I'm very happy for these kids,” UCO head coach Todd Steidley said. “They deserve it. And they weren't going to be denied that 18-0.” The Bronchos had to work for it Sunday. UCO was down 3-0, and 6-3, before reeling off six-straight wins to take the match. Fort Hays State (5-5, 2-2) picked up a win at 125 pounds when Conrad Cole earned the 3-2 decision over Zac D'Amico. Blake Dauphin leveled the match with a 6-1 decision over Wyatt Alvis at 133 pounds. A marquee matchup awaited at 141. Joshua Ailey, with 16 falls this season, faced off with 10th-ranked Brandon Ball. The first period ended 2-2 after Ailey scored a takedown and Ball scored a reversal. The second period ended with the match 8-8 after Ailey scored a takedown and a near fall, while Ball scored on two escapes, a takedown, and a near fall of his own. In the third period, Ball got a takedown and then held on for a riding time point. Ball edged Ailey in the high-scoring affair 11-8. Then it was time for UCO's run. Will Steltzlen pinned William Homalon in 1:59 at 149 pounds to give UCO a 9-6 lead. Bryan Dutton beat Greg Tooley 6-3 at 157 pounds to make it 12-6, and Dakota Head scored the Bronchos' second fall of the match at 165 pounds with a 1:24 pin of Kyler Mick to push the lead to 18-6. Miguel Barreras took a Fort Hays State forfeit for six points and suddenly the Bronchos led 24-6. Fort Hays State was going to have to earn a fall in each of the final three matches just to tie the score. UCO wasn't ready to let that happen. Caleb Hawes beat Rakim Dean at 184 pounds with an 11-5 decision to seal Central Oklahoma's first undefeated season. At 197 pounds, Greg Wilson was going to let up. Wilson is ranked third in the country at 197. The guy right in front of him, who also beat him on Nov. 6, literally stood right in front of him. Wilson faced off with second-ranked Jon Inman in a match that would have no bearing on the outcome of Sunday's dual. Neither wrestler scored in the first period. Inman chose to start the second period down, quickly escaped and took a 1-0 lead, and held onto that for the remainder of the period. Then Wilson, down to start the third, escaped to even the score 1-1. It appeared the match would be heading to sudden victory with neither wrestler able to get anything going and time running out. But with 13 seconds left, Wilson shot in and scored a takedown to take a 3-1 lead in the match. The buzzer sounded moments later and Wilson held his hands up as the victor. Steidley chose to send senior Evan McGee out for the heavyweight bout against Fort Hays State's ninth-ranked Christian Lance. Lance won 4-3 after two rounds of sudden victory overtime. WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Binghamton wrestling team defeated American, 25-11, Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats pulled together seven individual match wins against the Eagles, who have six nationally ranked wrestlers on their squad. Starting the dual at 184, Steve Schneider (No. 15, No. 11 NCAA) earned a 4-1 decision win over Jason Grimes (No. 30 NCAA), putting BU on the board early. Winning his third consecutive match, Schneider is now 9-1 in EIWA duals and 26-5 overall. American replied, taking a decision win at 197 and tying the score 3-3. However, redshirt sophomore Connor Calkins delivered for BU in the 285 match, rallying in the third period to earn a 3-2 decision over Brett Dempsey. As BU led 6-3, Steven Bulzomi stepped on the mat at 125 to face nationally ranked Josh Terao (No. 15, No. 10 NCAA). Although Bulzomi gave his best effort, Terao won by tech fall 5:18 into the match, putting American ahead 8-6. At 133, Audey Ashkar made his dual debut this afternoon taking on Angelo Barberio. The freshman came out ready to go, as he earned two takedowns in the first period to put him ahead. Accumulating 1:48 in ride time, Ashkar earned his first career dual win with a 10-4 decision, while also bumping BU back to a 9-8 lead. The big blows came in the next two matches, as Dylan Caruana and Parker Kropman both took down their nationally ranked opponents. At 141, Caruana dominated Jack Mutchnick (No. 30 NCAA) pinning him 2:44 into the match. The redshirt senior now has back-to-back pins and five overall this season, tying his career high. At 149, Kropman stepped up to face Michael Sprague (No. 30 NCAA). Sprague last topped Parker at the Las Vegas Invitational taking the match by a 4-2 decision. Seeking revenge, Kropman secured his fourth consecutive win this season with a 3-2 decision over Sprague, while increasing the Bearcats lead 18-8. American collected a win at 157, but Binghamton responded quickly as Jake Einbinder clinched the dual with an 8-2 decision over Michael Eckhart. Anthony Lombardo secured the final match of the night, accumulating 5:50 in ride time leading to a 13-0 bonus point win. "Today was a huge character win for our squad," head coach Matt Dernlan said. "We've had a lot going on this week, dealing with injuries and health issues. Overcoming that much adversity to get the individual wins, leading to a great team win, shows tremendous character. I'll always be proud of that." Today's win marks the first time in program history that Binghamton has beat American on their home mat, while also being the first time they have topped the Eagles in two consecutive years. However, this is not the first time the Bearcats have shown the ability to take down a top ranked wrestling squad. Earlier this season, they defeated Drexel at home 22-12 who housed five nationally ranked wrestlers. BU is now 8-4 overall and 8-2 in EIWA matches, while American drops to 3-7 overall and 0-7 in the league. The Bearcats return to the mat next weekend for a pair of EIWA duals. They will travel to Bucknell on Friday, February 10 for a 7 p.m. match before returning home to face UPENN on Saturday for a 12 p.m. start at the West Gym. DURHAM, N.C. -- Bonus points proved to be a big factor for the second straight match as No. 24 Virginia (10-5, 2-2 ACC) got bonus-point wins at three weight classes on the way to a 23-14 win at Duke (4-7, 0-3 ACC) on Sunday (Feb. 5). The Cavaliers won six weight classes with Ray Bethea (Trenton, N.J.), George DiCamillo (Highland Heights, Ohio), Sam Krivus (Greensburg, Pa.), Chance McClure (Commerce, Ga.), Will Mason (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Jack Mueller (Dallas, Texas) posting wins. Bethea, DiCamillo and Krivus all earned bonus point victories to help push Virginia to the win. Bethea pinned his opponent, while DiCamillo and Krivus both posted major decisions. The tone was set early with Bethea posting his pin of Garrett Neff in 6:19 at 165 pounds, only to see the Blue Devils rally to tie the match with wins at 174 pounds and 184 pounds. McClure would then pick up a decision over Luke Farinaro to move Virginia back in front before Duke's fourth-ranked Jacob Kasper picked up a major decision to give the home team a slim 10-9 lead at the halfway point of the dual. Virginia then put together four consecutive victories in the second half of the match to lock up the dual. Mueller, who is ranked eighth at 125 pounds, moved the Cavaliers back into the lead with a 6-0 decision over Thayer Atkins. Mason extended that lead, grabbing an 8-7 decision at 133 pounds after a review and two stall calls helped seal the win. DiCamillo then posted his second win of the weekend, snagging a 16-5 major decision over Zach Finesilver at 141 pounds. Krivus locked up the victory at 149 pounds, posting a 10-2 major decision over Xaviel Ramos. Duke closed the match with a win at 157 pounds with a major decision that cut the final margin of victory to nine points for the Cavaliers. Virginia will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 12, when the Cavaliers close out the ACC schedule at home against Pittsburgh. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Central Michigan recorded a pin, a technical fall and three major decision victories on Sunday in steamrolling Buffalo, 35-3, in a Mid-American Conference dual at the Bulls' Alumni Arena. It was CMU's fourth consecutive dual victory as it improved to 7-2, 4-2 MAC. Buffalo, which had won eight of its previous nine duals, is 9-5, 3-3. The dominant win completed a big weekend for the 17th-ranked Chippewas, who on Thursday upset 10th-ranked Michigan, 19-18, at McGuirk Arena. “We had a good weekend,” CMU coach Tom Borrelli said. “We had a couple slipups in the Michigan match, but for the most part we wrestled well and I'm happy.” The Chippewas got a pin from Corey Keener (133 pounds), a technical fall from Colin Heffernan (157), and major-decision victories from Mason Smith (141), Justin Oliver (149) and Jordan Ellingwood (184). CMU's Brent Fleetwood (125), CJ Brucki (174), Austin Severn (197) and Newton Smerchek (HWT) each won by decision, Smerchek in overtime. The lone Buffalo win came at 165, where junior Tyler Rill got a takedown with 55 seconds remaining to top freshman Logan Parks, 8-7. “For us only to lose just on match by one point, we wrestled pretty good today,” Borrelli said. “In most of the matches we scored a lot of points and that's what we've been focusing on.” Fleetwood got things started with a 5-4 victory. He trailed 4-2 entering the third period, then got an escape and scored a takedown with 11 seconds remaining to notch the win. “That's a big win for him,” Borrelli said. “He was behind the whole match and he wasn't feeling really well today. For him to gut that out was big and if they win there, that could have gotten their crowd into it.” Keener followed his pin and then Smith scored his second major decision in as many matches and the Chippewas were rolling. SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Sohrab Movahedi's takedown with seven seconds remaining sparked the Cal Poly wrestling team to a come-from-behind 21-18 victory over Northern Colorado in a non-conference dual meet Sunday afternoon in Mott Athletics Center. Trailing 3-2, Movahedi scored the go-ahead points for a 4-3 decision over No. 20-ranked Dylan Gabel at 184 pounds as Coach Jon Sioredas' Mustangs overcame 14-0 and 18-6 deficits for their sixth dual meet victory of the season. CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Camels opened with back-to-back falls on the way to a 31-12 victory at The Citadel, Sunday afternoon inside McAlister Field House. Campbell (8-6, 4-1), now sits in second in the Southern Conference standings, only behind Appalachian State, who is 6-0 after it defeated Chattanooga on Sunday. Campbell opened up Sunday's dual with a pair of first period falls, beginning at 184. Ville Heino began his match with a trio of takedowns and a four-point near fall. With 42 seconds remaining in the period, Heino used his third takedown to finish off Chandler Sambets with the fall. Willie Bivens III only needed 89 seconds to pick up the fall over Sawyer Root at the 197 matchup. Bivens recorded the lone points with a takedown, before he finished the match with the fall. At the 285-pound match, Jere Heino continued the scoring for Campbell with his 6-0 decision over Joseph Bexley. Heino recorded a pair of takedowns along with an escape and riding time to claim the victory. Heino's win gave Campbell a 15-0 advantage. The Orange and Black's lead stretch to 20-0 after Nathan Kraisser's 16-0 tech fall at the 125-pound match. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Illinois wrestling won seven straight matches, highlighted by a pin from Kyle Langenderfer, as the Orange and Blue defeated the Purdue Boilermakers, 30-6, on Sunday afternoon at Huff Hall. After winning three of the first four matches to start the dual, Kyle Langenderfer, Isaiah Martinez and Zac Brunson scored a combined 15 points to clinch the victory. Illinois improves to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the Big Ten. "I think our guys are doing some better things, getting better in certain spots," said Head Coach Jim Heffernan after the match. "We still got some things we need to iron out, but we still go a month until the Big Ten Tournament." After Purdue's 125-pounder Ben Thornton gave the Boilers an early 3-0 lead, the Fighting Illini strung together seven straight victories and 27 team points. No. 6 Zane Richards got the scoring started with an 8-2 decision over Nate Limmex at 133 pounds. The Illini senior used three takedowns and riding time to pick up his 101st career victory, tying him with current Illini volunteer assistant coach Jesse Delgado for 22nd place on the all-time list. With the dual tied, 3-3, the Illini picked up hard-fought decisions from Mousa Jodeh (11-13) and No. 20 Eric Barone (8-5) to take the momentum of the match. Following a scoreless first period, Jodeh received a penalty point after Kyle Ayersman was twice called for stalling, and then earned an escape to win the match, 2-1. Barone added three more points to Illinois' score with a 4-1 decision against Nate Limmex. The two 149-pounders traded escapes, but Barone's 1:20 ride to start the third period, coupled with a late takedown, gave the Illini a 9-3 lead over Purdue. Illinois' strength at the middleweights showed again on Sunday, as No. 12 Kyle Langenderfer, No. 1 Isaiah Martinez, No. 12 Zac Brunson and No. 12 Emery Parker tallied 18 points, stretching the team lead to 27-3. Langenderfer (20-4) notched his fifth fall of the season in the first period against Purdue's Mario Leveille, pinning the Boilermaker in one minute, 50 seconds. With his eighth straight victory, Langenderfer becomes the fourth Illini to reach the 20-win plateau this season, joining Martinez, Brunson and Parker. "I thought my approach was pretty good, I was kind of slow early," explained Langenderfer. "I knew Purdue likes to slow you down, hold on to you, and make sure there's no space, and I fell into that early in the match. I got that takedown, which is something I've been working on with the coaches, lifting, and ended up getting the fall there." After the six points from Langenderfer, Martinez (21-0) continued the onslaught with 12 takedowns, including five in the first period, to dispatch of Dylan Lydy by technical fall, 25-10. EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team shook off a sluggish start and claimed five of the last six bouts, including three straight bonus wins, to surge past in-state rival Michigan State, 24-15, Sunday afternoon (Feb. 5) at the Spartans' Jenison Field House. The Wolverines earned bonus points in four of their six total match wins. Senior captain Brian Murphy, ranked 10th nationally at 157 pounds, initiated the comeback with a 5-1 decision over Austin Thompson just before the intermission break, opening up a tight match with a pair of third-period takedowns. Murphy finished on a single leg early in the frame and again out of a scramble late in final 20 seconds. It was Murphy's fifth straight dual win. Sophomore/freshman Logan Massa and classmate Myles Amine reeled off back-to-back technical falls at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively, to put the Wolverines firmly in control late. Massa, ranked second nationally, cruised to a 23-8 win against high former high school teammate Mark Bozzo, scoring on 10 takedowns -- six in the first period -- and a two-point bow and arrow to end the bout at the 6:07 mark. It was his second tech fall of the weekend and ninth of the season. He boasts 16 total bonus wins. Amine, ranked eighth nationally, used a similar route to his 21-5 win against Drew Barnes in the subsequent match, posting seven takedowns and six back points. He ended the match early, at 6:24, after hitting a double leg and immediately turning Barnes with a leg turk off the edge of the mat. Amine owns 12 bonus wins this season. Senior/junior Ernest Battaglia also won big in his first match back from injury at 184 pounds, capitalizing on a pair of big moves in the first period to defeat Shwan Shadaia, 17-5, and all but seal the Wolverine win. With Shadaia twice locking up double underhooks and looking for throws early, Battaglia twice planted him on his back for six points, including an inside trip midway through the frame. He added a single leg in the second and rode for 2:01 time advantage. CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The No. 15 Oklahoma wrestling team used three bonus-point victories to down No. 18 Northern Iowa, 27-13, on Sunday afternoon inside the McLeod Center. The Sooners won five of the first six bouts, including two victories over higher ranked opponents, to improve to 9-5 on the season. Christian Moody started off the match with a 13-4 major decision over UNI's Jay Schwarm in the 125-pound bout. Moody tallied two takedowns in the opening period, before recording a reversal and a 4-point nearfall in the second to hold a 10-2 advantage through two periods. The redshirt freshman tacked on a takedown and the riding-time point in the final frame for the bonus-point win and to give the Sooners an early 4-0 lead. In the 141-pound bout, Mike Longo secured his 10th consecutive win with a 16-0 technical fall over Jake Hodges in 6:14. Longo held a 2-0 advantage after the opening frame and tacked on an escape, a takedown and a 4-point nearfall in the second for a 9-0 advantage. Iowa won seven-of-10 matches and held a 23-9 edge in takedowns to win its third straight meeting with Minnesota. The Hawkeyes ran out to a 19-0 lead before intermission behind four major decisions and an upset at 165. Joey Gunther won for the first time in four meetings against a ranked opponent, scoring takedowns in the first and third periods to defeat No. 15 Nick Wanzek, 5-2. "We need to keep bringing him along," said UI head coach Tom Brands. "Gunther has been doing a good job, but he can open it up a little bit more and build leads. He can be more aggressive because he does have good shots." "It was a nice win to get moving forward, getting those ranked wins under my belt," Gunther said. "I still want to be the best and beat the best, so it feels good." The dual started at 149 pounds, where fourth-ranked Brandon Sorensen used five takedowns and 2:39 of riding time to register his team-high ninth major decision, 13-2. Second-ranked Michael Kemerer extended Iowa's lead to 8-0 with a 13-5 major decision against No. 9 Jake Short, earning his fourth win over a top 10 opponent at 157. Following Gunther's decision at 165, No. 11 Alex Meyer and No. 5 Sammy Brooks sent Iowa to the locker room with consecutive major decisions. Meyer's 174-pound match was scoreless after one period, but he took a 3-0 lead into the third and turned a double-leg into four nearfall points to build a 9-1 lead. Two minutes of riding time made the finals score 10-1. Brooks used three takedowns, two nearfall points, and 3:08 of riding time to win 10-2 at 184. "Four out of the first five matches scored bonus points and that was big," Brands said. The Gophers chipped into Iowa's lead after the break, winning by technical fall and decision at 197 and 285, respectively. Trailing in team points 19-8 and winners of two straight, Minnesota looked like it might make it three in a row when No. 6 Ethan Lizak finished a takedown and racked up six nearfall points against Thomas Gilman in the opening period at 125. Lizak opened the second period on top and continued to build riding time when Gilman scored a reversal to make the score 8-2. The third period started with both wresters on their feet, and ended 58 seconds later with Lizak on his back. Gilman used two takedowns and two intentional releases to pull within four points, 10-6, and put Lizak's shoulders on the mat following a third takedown. He finished the pin in 5:58. "I listed to a podcast the other day," Gilman said after improving to 21-0 with seven wins against ranked opponents, including three in the top 10. "It was military oriented and the first thing it talked about was when you're in a firefight and casualties are occurring, the casualties don't matter. The only thing that matters is where the fire is coming from. I wasn't worried about the casualties, which were the points, I was just worried about where the fire was coming from; that was him sucking me back and getting those points. I knew I had to get to my feet and get out. I wasn't going to win the match by staying underneath for five minutes and then going to my feet. I knew I had to get some points in that second period." The reversal ended Lizak's 8-0 run, and started an 8-2 stretch that ended in Gilman's team-high eighth fall. "I welcome the challenge," Gilman said. "He came out there to beat me and I really appreciate that. I genuinely mean that too. He came out there to beat me. Not a lot of guys do that. They wrestle to keep it close. It was a good match." Gilman's fall extended Iowa's lead to 25-8. PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- No. 14 Rutgers wrestling remained unbeaten at home with 25-9 dual win against Indiana Sunday at the Rutgers Athletic Center. Starting at 174 pounds, the Scarlet Knights (11-3, 5-2) won seven matches for their fifth Big Ten win of the season, tying the program record set in 2015-16. “We've got to get on a plane here in a couple hours and get to Columbus, Ohio, but it's good to get a Big Ten win,” said head coach Scott Goodale. “I thought we wrestled really good in a lot of different positions so we're excited about it and we'll be ready to go tomorrow night.” All Jordan Pagano needed was a first period takedown against Devin Skatzka in a 2-0 win to start the dual at 174 pounds. Pagano collected 2:33 of riding time in the opening period and defended No. 17 (FloWrestling) Skatzka's attacks in the final minute of the third to hang on, avenging a 7-2 loss to Skatzka at Midlands. The South Brunswick, New Jersey, native leads RU with 22 wins overall. Indiana earned one of its three wins on the afternoon at 184 pounds, as No. 7 Nate Jackson outlasted No. 13 Nicholas Gravina, 5-4. Gravina clawed back into the match by forcing a third period stall against Jackson, making it 5-4 with enough time to score. But Jackson refused to give up his legs, toughing out the decision to snap Gravina's (16-6) four-match winning streak. The Scarlet Knights took the lead at 197 pounds and never looked back, with Matt Correnti earning his second-straight major decision to improve to 13-8 on the year. Heavyweight Razohnn Gross also kept rolling, winning his four-straight decision by taking down Fletcher Miller in sudden victory. Gross improves to 10-7 overall and 5-5 in dual action. A Brandon Paetzell loss at 125 pounds made the dual 10-6 at intermission, but the South Plainfield, New Jersey tandem of 133-pounder Scott DelVecchio and No. 6 141-pounder Anthony Ashnault closed the door on the Hoosiers. DelVecchio snapped a three-match skid with a 4-2 decision, bumping his record to 16-9. Ashnault made quick work of Indiana's Cole Weaver, scoring a fall in just 1:30. Ashnault took Weaver to the mat and let him up slowly before locking a cradle along the edge. Ashnault improves 21-3 on the year and 13-1 in dual competition. No. 14 Ken Theobold swung his match against Chris Perez with a takedown and four-point near fall in the second period on his way to an 8-1 decision. Theobold continued his dominant form with his fifth win in a row, building a scoring differential in those matches to 56-2. He's now 17-5 overall. Anthony Giraldo emerged with an 8-7 victory at 157 pounds against Jake Danishek. Giraldo trailed, 5-2, in the second period but battled back with a takedown as the period ended to make it 5-4. An escape to start the third period tied the match at 5-5, but Danishek looked for the win after taking Giraldo to the mat for a 7-5 lead. Giraldo willed his way back by escaping, earning a takedown and riding Danishek out for the final 20 seconds. IU snagged a win at 165 pounds to end the dual. RALEIGH, N.C. -- With the dual tied 6-6 after the first four bouts, No. 8 NC State got four straight bonus point wins, including a pair of pins to break the score open and defeat visiting West Virginia 30-9 in Reynolds Sunday afternoon. Freshmen Thomas Bullard (157 pounds) and Nick Reenan (174) both scored pins in the final home regular season dual, and the Wolfpack (12-1) closed the dual with five bonus point wins in the last six matches overall. The dual started at 125 pounds with an 8-4 WVU win. Redshirt-sophomore Jamal Morris answered with his own 8-4 decision at 133 pounds to even the dual after two matches. Morris held a 3-2 lead going into the third, and recorded a pair of final period takedowns and tacked on the ride time point for the win over Cory Stanbrook. The Mountaineers scored a 4-2 decision at 141 pounds to retake the lead. On his Senior Day, redshirt-senior Sam Speno responded with a Wolfpack win, evening the dual four bouts in. Spent scored a first-period takedown, and used the second period to accumulate the ride time point in claiming the 3-2 win. Spends improves to a perfect 8-0 in duals this year. NC State took its first lead at 157 pounds, as Thomas Bullard recorded a second period pin to give the Pack the 12-6 lead at the halfway point. Hermann scored a first period takedown and then got a pair of two-point near falls to hold a 6-0 lead after the first. A takedown with 20 seconds left secured the major decision for Macchiavello. At 197 pounds, Malik McDonald fought back with a third period takedown but fell 8-5 to Jacob A. Smith. In the final match of the dual, redshirt-senior Mike Kosoy closed out with a 12-4 major decision. Kosoy started the second period on top and got a four-point near fall and then a two-point near fall for the commanding lead late in the match. KENT, Ohio -- The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 27-12 dual win over Kent State University Sunday afternoon, Feb. 5, at the MAC Center. It marked the second win over the Golden Flashes in program history, and the first since 1974. EMU (6-6, 2-5 MAC) won seven of ten matches, which included pins from redshirt sophomore Kayne MacCallum (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) and redshirt freshman No. 17 Noah Gonser (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc). KSU (2-13, 0-6 MAC), meanwhile, secured three wins, with one pin of their own. The dual began at 174 lbs. where redshirt senior Jacob Davis (North Ridgeville, Ohio-St. Edward) got things started with a solid 6-2 decision, notching two takedowns, an escape, and riding time, to start the dual 3-0. At 184 lbs., a tight battle went to overtime tied at 3 between Jerald Spohn and MacCallum after both notched takedowns, along with an escape and stall call. In the first OT period, Spohn began to push MacCallum back, but he countered with a throw, which landed Spohn on his back, and he worked the huge pin in 7:31 to get the Eagles out to a 9-0 lead after two. It was MacCallum's second pin of the season, and his second in overtime. The Flashes got on the board at 197 lbs. with an 8-1 decision to tighten the gap heading into the heavyweight bout. There, redshirt junior No. 17 Gage Hutchison (Buchanan, Mich.-Buchanan) got back on track, snapping his two-match losing skid with a 6-3 decision. Tied at two after two periods, Hutchison got a pair of third period takedowns to secure his team-best 23rd victory of the season. Eastern notched another pin at the 125 lbs. match, as Gonser snapped a two-bout losing streak of his own, locking up the cradle and getting the fall in 6:06. It was his sixth pin of the season, and his fourth in dual action. Halfway through the dual, Eastern had the commanding 18-3 advantage. Kent State secured another win at 133 lbs. with a 4-3 decision, but EMU countered with a high-scoring win at 141 lbs. Redshirt junior No. 33 Kyle Springer (New Boston, Mich.-Davenport Assumption (Indiana)) wracked up 13 points with five takedowns and three escapes, to get a 13-9 decision for his fourth straight dual win, improving his dual record to 8-3. Redshirt senior No. 27 Nick Barber (Cleveland, Ohio-St. Edward) kept things rolling at 149 lbs. as he secured the dual win with a 6-3 decision with riding time. His sixth dual win of the year put the team score out of reach at 24-6. The Flashes got a pin at 157 lbs., but EMU ended the match with a 10-4 decision win for redshirt senior Devan Marry (Hudson, Mich.-Hudson), his fifth dual win, to wrap-up the 27-12 victory. American wrestling fans cheer on Team USA at the Olympic Games (Photo/Tony Rotundo, WrestlersAreWarriors.com) Iran has reversed itself on a visa ban on U.S. wrestlers, allowing them to participate at the 2017 Freestyle World Cup in two weeks. The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported Sunday that Iran had reversed a decision announced Friday to ban visas for the team in retaliation for an executive order by President Donald Trump banning visas for Iranians, according to international news service Reuters. Bahram Ghasemi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued a telegram message on Sunday noting that visas would be issued for the Americans partly because of the decision by a U.S. federal judge to "halt the execution of discriminatory restrictions against the entrance of Iranian citizens to America", IRNA reported. The U.S. wrestlers were originally banned Friday from the 2017 World Cup, taking place Feb. 16-17 in the western Iranian city of Kermanshah after President Trump temporarily suspended travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran. The Trump administration is now appealing to reinstate the travel ban. On Sunday a judge in San Francisco rejected the government's request for an immediate reinstatement. Formal arguments in the case begin on Monday.

LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The University of Wyoming wrestling team easily handled visiting Air Force in the UniWyo Sports Complex on Saturday night. Head coach Mark Branch's squad won seven of the ten bouts, including two bonus point wins, to roll to a 29-9 victory. The win was the fifth-straight this season for UW and the ninth-consecutive over Air Force. “We won a few tight matches tonight,” UW head coach Branch said. “We also lost a few. There was some positive things against Air Force but we also showed we still need to make improvements. It was a good dual to learn from, which is nice this late in the season. It's great to see progression, especially how we have grinded out a few of these duals lately. These wins make the environment a little better to come back to and train, but we are looking at the bigger picture. I thought Kyle Pope's performance was the best in terms of hustle. Also, Branson (Ashworth) looked aggressive on top and he came out with a high pace. Overall, we did have good performances tonight. ” The dual began at 285 where senior Brandon Tribble won by injury default. The win was his second-straight victory and also the third of the last four. At 125, No. 16 Drew Templeman continued his outstanding run with a 4-1 decision over Drew Romero. Templeman used an early takedown to secure the lead and never looked back. It was Templeman's eighth-straight win for the Brown and Gold. Junior Bryce Meredith, ranked No. 8 at 141, notched UW's first bonus point win of the dual. Meredith scored a takedown and back-to-back four point near falls to open a 10-0 lead in the first period. Meredith ultimately earned a 19-3 tech fall over John Twomey to give UW a 14-3 lead after four bouts. No. 19 Archie Colgan took advantage of Alex Mossing in the 157-pound match. Scoreless after the opening period, Colgan then scored two takedowns and an escape for a 5-2 victory. Branson Ashworth, the 16th-ranked wrestler according to Intermat, wasted no time in pinning Tyler Wiederholt to advance UW's lead 23-6 over Air Force. Ashworth secured the only fall of the dual in 49 seconds and it was his seventh pin of the season. Kyle Pope held on for an 8-6 victory over Michael Billingsley. Pope used two takedowns in the final period to give him the advantage and first conference win of the year. Lucas Lovvorn up the final win for the Brown and Gold on Saturday night. Lovvorn earned a 2-1 overtime decision over Zen Ikehara. It was the first Big 12 dual victory for Lovvorn this season. UW will be back on the mat on Wednesday night in Greeley, Colo. South Dakota State ranked wrestlers Nate Rotert and Seth Gross each recorded falls and two other Jackrabbits scored major decisions as the 19th-ranked Jackrabbits capped a successful weekend with a 29-10 dual victory over Utah Valley Saturday night at Frost Arena. The Jackrabbits improved to 12-3 overall in duals and 6-1 against Big 12 Conference opponents. Utah Valley, which opened its weekend road trip with a win Friday at North Dakota State, dropped to 5-4 overall and 2-2 against Big 12 foes. Luke Zilverberg got SDSU off on the right foot with a 12-4 major decision over Koy Wilkinson in the 165-pound match. With the win, Zilverberg improved to 18-6 overall and 11-3 in duals. Utah Valley's Kimball Bastian put the Wolverines on the board with an upset of the Jackrabbits' 15th-ranked David Kocer at 174 pounds. Bastian scored a takedown midway through overtime for a 3-1, sudden-victory decision that brought Utah Valley to within 4-3. The Jackrabbits gained control of the dual with wins by Martin Mueller at 184 pounds and Rotert in the 197-pound division. Mueller turned in a 7-4 decision over Will Sumner, while the seventh-ranked Rotert posted three first-period takedowns before pinning Tanner Orndorff in 2 minutes and 38 seconds. UVU and SDSU split a pair of one-point decisions as the dual moved from the upper weights to the lower weights. PHILADELPHIA -- The Drexel wrestling team closed out its second win of the day Saturday night, downing the Hofstra Pride at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, 36-2. Drexel began the day in Lancaster, Pa. where it cruised past the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats, 40-6. Back on their home mat at night, it was more of the same dominance for the Dragons. Drexel has now won four matches in a row, improving to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the EIWA with the win. Hofstra falls to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the EIWA. After starting the night with six points on the board after a Hofstra forfeit at 141 pounds, the Dragons jumped on the Pride early to grow the lead to an insurmountable 25-0. No. 17 Matthew Cimato worked a 4-1 decision over Ryan Burkert at 149 pounds, before 157-pounder Willie Davis tied things up with riding time to send his match against Jake Kaminsky into extra time where he would get a quick takedown for the 17-15 sudden victory. PRINCETON, N.J. and PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Brown University wrestling beat the University of Pennsylvania, 18-16, and fell to Princeton University, 32-6, in an EIWA and Ivy League dual meet doubleheader at Rockwell Gymnasium and Dillon Gymnasium respectively on Saturday. The Bears (4-7, 2-4 EIWA) earned their first Ivy League win of the season with their victory over the Quakers (4-6, 2-5 EIWA) after falling to the Tigers (6-6, 3-2 EIWA) who featured four nationally ranked wrestlers in their lineup. Brown won its first Ivy dual meet since besting Penn, 18-16, on Feb. 8, 2014. Sophomores Jon Viruet (Springfield, Mass.) and CJ LaFragola (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) each won twice on the day for the Bears. Viruet and LaFragola rank first and second on the team with 23 and 20 wins on the season respectively. The Bears opened the match with a 9-0 lead in the team score and remained ahead 15-12 with two bouts remaining. After Penn grabbed its first lead at 16-15, sophomore Ian Butterbrodt (North Andover, Mass.) won at heavyweight to send the Bears home with a team victory. Brown captured three decisions – at 125, 165, and 184 – by one point in the match. Freshman Trey Keeley (Washington, Ill.) opened the dual with a 2-1 win over Jeremy Schwartz at 125 lbs. before fellow rookie Jimmy Pawelski (Park Ridge, Ill.) won 12-5 at 133 lbs. over Tristin DeVincenzo. Junior Zeke Salvo (Baltimore, Md.) made the team score 9-0 with a 7-3 win over Patrick Munn at 141 lbs. After Penn pulled within 9-7 in the team tally, Viruet answered with a 3-2 triumph at 165 lbs. over Joe Velliquette. PITTSBORO, N.C. -- Bonus points proved to be critical on Saturday night as the No. 24 Virginia wrestling team (9-5, 1-2 ACC) went on the road and defeated No. 25 North Carolina (6-6, 1-3 ACC) by a score of 22-15. The contest was held at Northwoods High School after a water emergency in Chapel Hill, N.C., forced the match to be moved. After trailing early, the Cavaliers got wins from Tyler Askey (Newnan, Ga.), Jack Mueller (Dallas, Texas), Will Mason (Virginia Beach, Va.), George DiCamillo (Highland Heights, Ohio) and Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.) to secure the victory. The bonus point victories from DiCamillo, Mason and Mueller proved to be critical as Virginia and North Carolina each won five weight classes. The match started at 165 pounds and the Tar Heels grabbed the first two victories before Askey would get the Cavaliers on the board with a 6-2 decision over Anderson Pope at 184 pounds. North Carolina would continue to build on the lead, grabbing victories in the next two weight classes and holding a 12-3 lead overall as the lineup flipped back to the 125 pounds. The Cavaliers then went to work with three nationally-ranked wrestlers in the final five weight classes. Eighth-ranked Mueller got things started with a 14-3 major decision over James Szymanski at 125 pounds to cut the UNC lead to four points. Mason then picked up six points for the Cavaliers at 133 pounds, holding a 13-2 lead before an injury forced the Tar Heels' Nicholas Lirette to default. The resulting six points catapulted Virginia into the match lead. The premier matchup of the night came at 141 pounds with No. 7 DiCamillo facing No. 5 Joey Ward. The Cavalier senior picked up his eighth pin of the season, putting Ward on his back in 4:15 to add six more points to the scoreboard for Virginia. North Carolina won its fifth match at 149 pounds, another decision, leaving Virginia holding a four-point lead with one match to go at 157 pounds. In a thrilling first period that saw several scores and lead changes, No. 17 Atkinson battled with Carolina senior Joey Moon. With the match tied in the waning seconds of the bout, Atkinson notched an escape and picked up the 8-7 decision over Moon to secure the 22-15 match victory for the Cavaliers. Virginia will continue to wrestle on the road, facing Duke at 2 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 5) at Card Gym. The Princeton Class of 2017 has done everything it could to change the trajectory of the wrestling program. You didn't think they'd settle for anything less than a magical final day inside Dillon Gym, did you? Four Tiger seniors combined to go 6-0 during a dominant day for Princeton, which defeated Brown 32-6 and Harvard 33-3 to improve to 7-6 on the season, 3-0 in the Ivy League. Those seniors can look to climb an even higher mountain next weekend, as they head to New York to take on Columbia (Friday, 6) and Cornell (Saturday, 3) in a chase for the program's first Ivy League championship since 1986. Both matches will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network. There is plenty of time to look ahead, though. Saturday was a day to celebrate the Class of 2017, while taking notice of a Tiger team that has come through the gauntlet of a loaded schedule and appears to be peaking at the opportune time. Seniors Jordan Laster and Ray O'Donnell both went 2-0 on the day, while classmates Troy Murtha and Brett Harner posted wins at 197 for Princeton, which swept the first five matches in both ends of the doubleheader to maintain complete control during the day. The highlight of the opener came from Murtha, the senior who has answered the bell at a variety of upperclass weights throughout his career. He took out Tucker Ziegler, pinning him in 2:19 to help close the convincing win over Brown. The nightcap, which began with Princeton honoring its two earliest Ivy championship teams -- including the 1967 squad on its 50th anniversary -- included wins for all three returning NCAA-qualifying seniors. Laster scored a pair of late takedowns to secure a 6-1 win at 141, while Harner fought off Logan Kirby for a 6-4 win at 197. The finale, a showdown of two of the Ivy's top heavyweights, belonged to O'Donnell, whose dominant third-period ride led the way to a 2-0 victory over Nick Gajdzik. Of course, there were plenty of other highlights, including a stirring performance from the youngest of the Tigers. Freshmen Ty Agaisse and Matthew Kolodzik both went 2-0 on the day, while Leonard Merkin may have put on one of the most thrilling shows of the day. He scored a 22-11 major decision over Peter Bearse, even though Bearse had the slight advantage in riding time. Merkin continuously put his opponent to his back, including once only seconds after he appeared to be fighting out of a cradle. A strong Dillon crowd was ignited through the match, just as they were during Mike D'Angelo's fall at 157. D'Angelo is quietly having a brilliant Ivy season. COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Behind wins in nine of 10 bouts, Mizzou Wrestling (10-3, 7-0 MAC) defeated Northern Illinois (6-7, 2-5 MAC), 38-3, in a Mid-American Conference dual on Sunday at the Hearnes Center. Five Tigers recorded bonus points in the dual, including falls from redshirt sophomore 133-pounder John Erneste (Kansas City, Mo.), redshirt freshman 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman (Columbia, Mo.) and redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs, Mo.). With the victory, the Tigers have now won 28 consecutive MAC duals, dating back to Jan. 25, 2014. In those duals, Mizzou has outscored its conference opponents, 812-258. The dual began at 184 pounds, with redshirt senior 184-pounder Matt Lemanowicz (Lee's Summit, Mo.) taking the mat for the Tigers. The Tiger senior took a 2-1 lead heading into the third period and increased his lead with two takedowns and a near-fall in the final period to increase to win, 10-4, over Bryce Gorman. Senior 197-pounder J'den Cox (Columbia, Mo.) was up next against No. 12 Shawn Scott. Facing his ninth ranked opponent of the season, Cox defeated the Huskie wrestler, 16-4, recording his 13th win by bonus points this season. The major decision was the 29th of his career, moving him ahead of UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley for third-most major decisions in program history. Following Cox, Mizzou picked up back-to-back decision wins from redshirt freshman heavyweight Austin Myers (Alexandria, Ky.) and redshirt junior 125-pounder Aaron Assad (Brecksville, Ohio). With a 13-0 lead already, Erneste and Eierman quickly extended the lead to 25-0 with back-to-back pins. First, Erneste, with a 4-0 lead in the third period, got Alijah Jeffery on his back for the fall. Next, Eierman had an 8-2 lead in the second period when he got Anthony Rubino's shoulders to the mat for another six points. In the second matchup of the day featuring two ranked opponents, No. 2 Lavion Mayes (Mascoutah, Ill.) needed a late stall call to defeat No. 10 Steve Bleise, 2-1. Mayes forced Bleise to back up on the edge of the mat with time running out to initiate the stall call, the second of the match on Blesie. Redshirt junior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee (Reno, Nev.) was next for the Tigers against Caden McWhirter. Lavallee executed a takedown and a near-fall in the second period, followed by two more takedowns in the third to earn a 13-3 major decision. Lewis closed out the scoring for Mizzou in the 165 pound bout, pinning Shaun'Qae McMurty in the first period at 2:23. The fall for Lewis was a team-leading seventh on the season. Mizzou will next face Northern Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 12. The dual will start at 2 p.m. CT inside the Hearnes center, and will be for the MAC regular season championship, as both teams enter the dual with an unblemished record in conference duals. KENT, Ohio -- The top-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team wrapped up its whirlwind road trip with a dominant, 36-6 victory over Kent State on Saturday afternoon. The win moved the Cowboys to 12-0, and came less than 24 hours after the team dropped No. 24 Edinboro on Friday night in Edinboro, Pa. Despite being down three starters for the second dual this weekend, the Cowboys tallied six bonus-point victories, along with six points from a forfeit at 133 pounds. OSU turned in four major decisions on the day to go along with a pin from Anthony Collica at 149 pounds and a technical fall from Nick Piccininni at 125. "Bonus points early on gets your team rolling," Head coach John Smith said. Sometimes, when you're wrestling teams that are a little bit undermanned you can take advantage of that, so it was good to see us do that." Piccininni got back on track with a 20-5 technical fall on Saturday after a tough loss to ninth-ranked Sean Russell of Edinboro Friday night. Leading, 9-1, over Kent State's Cory Simpson after two periods, the Cowboy redshirt freshman scored five takedowns in the third on the way to an 11-point period to finish off the tech in 6:25, his sixth of the season. After redshirt freshman Kaid Brock was awarded the win by forfeit at 133 pounds, Ohio natives Dean Heil and Anthony Collica piled on to boost OSU's lead to 21-0. Heil used three takedowns in the third to finish off a 16-5 major decision over Chance Driscoll at 141 pounds. The win served as the 2016 NCAA Champion's 20th-straight win and boosted his undefeated record on the season to 21-0. Fresh off his 100th career win Friday night, Collica would put the exclamation mark on a hot start for the Cowboys with his second pin of the season, decking Kent State's Tim Rooney in 4:52 to move to 15-1 for his senior campaign. Davey Dolan turned in the first of two losses for the Cowboys Saturday, as he came up short, 11-5, to No. 30 Casey Sparkman at 157 pounds. Derek White would also drop his match to Stephen Suglio at 197 pounds. "Our two losses at 157 and 197 just weren't enough," Smith said. "We need to stay in a little better position, and we need to score defensively. We just didn't get it done." Redshirt sophomore Chandler Rogers had no trouble putting points on the board at 165 pounds, scoring seven takedowns and a nearfall for the 20-7 major decision over Jared Walker. The win was a nice rebound from Friday night against Edinboro, which saw the Stillwater native suffer a fall at the hands of No. 17 Austin Matthews. Senior Kyle Crutchmer got in on the bonus-point action at 174 pounds, as he handled Kent State's Isaac Bast, 19-6, for his third major of the season. Crutchmer led, 6-2, heading into the third, but opened up the match late with five takedowns in the final frame that would lock up the major decision and his 13th win of the season. "The coaches have really been stressing putting up points and getting takedowns," Crutchmer said. "Anytime you're on a road trip, it can be a little harder. (Bast) came out firing at the beginning, but you just move forward and push the pace. I ended up scoring a couple of takedowns, which is really good for me at this point in the season." After gutting out a 10-8 win over Edinboro's Dakota Greer on Friday night, senior Nolan Boyd registered a 7-0 decision over Shane Mast at 184 pounds to improve to 16-3 for the year. Despite only getting the decision, Boyd was in control throughout, as he racked up over six minutes of riding time in the win. Redshirt sophomore Tanner Allen had an impressive day at heavyweight for the Pokes, as he posted a 10-2 major decision over Devin Nye for the first dual win of his career. Allen jumped up early with a pair of takedowns in the opening period and never looked back, adding a couple more scores in the final frame to finish off the victory. "That was nice to see," Smith said. "Those guys look forward to opportunities, and I thought he had a good outing against one of the top 10 heavyweights at Edinboro, and I thought he followed it up today with a good outing. You don't often see a heavyweight score four takedowns in a match, so it was good to see and it was a good win for him." The Cowboys now look ahead to their final weekend of the regular season that will bring Big 12 foes Wyoming and Oklahoma into Gallagher-Iba Arena next weekend.
