Congressional hearings for the firing of Colbert? Really?

At least you recognize that the GOP uses censorship... that's a start I suppose -
Congressional hearings for the firing of Colbert? Really?

This is such a sensationalist joke. You act like it's part of a curriculum. If this is even remotely true it was probably some problem child kid that brought it in and he's probably from Mississippi... That's like you being mad when a liberal says all republicans just want to force feed Christ to every kid and ban any Muslim kid from attending school (probably happened in one school in Oklahoma somewhere) but it would be stupid of me to even argue that point because I know although a one off, is not true for the rest of the population... I'm happy to debate and jab but don't come to the playground with that weak crap -

I forgot to add things like early/higher education into my list but I suppose I could think of a new thing every few minutes and I would just end up in here all day listing the things being cancelled by the GOP -
Promises made promises.... well maybe not so much...

Congressional hearings for the firing of Colbert? Really?

Bro.... come on... you know what cancel culture is because you all screamed about it when it happened when the shoe was on the other foot... Now the sides reverse and your response is seriously "how is it cancel culture?!?!?" And "define cancel culture!!!" You are the party of cancel culture and it's obvious and doesn't need explaining. -
Congressional hearings for the firing of Colbert? Really?

We are basically living in the MAGA cancel culture world right now... everything that offends maga = cancelled. Bud-lite Drag shows Books NPR NFL Electric Vehicles Renewable Energy Big tech until big tech helps them and then big tech again Colbert The list goes on and on... For a group that is all pro-free speech and yada yada they are more heavily into cancel culture than the dems were. The recent south park episode while on brand for South Park- the parent company really allowed them go hard to essentially provide cover to the narrative that they are doing Trumps bidding to get a multi-billion dollar merger approved which happened a week later. I find it very hard to believe the Late show was the big thing holding up the deal from happening on the balance sheet.... For those that don't know companies have "loss leaders" or products that they sell at a loss for consumer interest and to upstream them to more products with greater profit margins. This is not a new concept and Colbert was no different.. people watch Colbert or subscribe to the streaming service to see his show and then watch other shows. -
The other way to look at this is him saying in the back of his mind "If Hulk Hogans league existed I may not have made even close to the amount of money I did in the WWE...phew"

I think it's great wrestling and the event in particular is getting this exposure. What I find odd is how it seems like wrestling is almost being politically commandeered or owned by right wing politics. I don't say that to start a debate but just seeing how things have played out with the prez at NCAAs and the spectacle that was made on his entrance, Bo Nickal and his outward political nature, Dan Gable stumping for trump in Iowa and just the kind of people that seem to be involved lately even at a youth wrestling level. Just never really saw that in other fringe sports before to my knowledge. Maybe it's just the nature of wrestling being more of a blue collar sport and the rural/urban divide but it's just a weird thing to watch happen in real time... Maybe it's always been a sport with the same people but the attention it gets from folks on the right side of the spectrum just seems to be increasing and more in your face than it ever was:.

Vito delaying Final X match against Jax
Doublehalf replied to okokzach's topic in International Wrestling
Because at the end of the day I think we can agree we all want to see two guys at their absolute best compete for a spot and that's clearly not what we got today. -

I agree 100% but unfortunately the world isn't always as fair minded as that and we live in a "what have you done for me lately society" I very much hope that's not the case but it may be naive to think that doesn't occupy the space of some recruits minds... I'm sure Grey can navigate those conversations effectively tho. -

Does anyone know what his injury was/is that he's been dealing with? -

Regardless of Vito's condition, I do worry what this means for Cornell RTC and Grey's ability to recruit some top tier guys... I've always been a big fan with what Cornell has been able to achieve when you take into account their limitations compared to the non-ivy but having two guys go down to high school kids is not the greatest look right now... I could be jumping the gun obviously because Vito has two chances left but I don't see him getting stronger today... -
Nickal has got to be one of the most annoying guys in recent memory to come out of NCAA wrestling... The entitlement and arrogance he speaks with on his podcasts is nauseating. He's the kind of guy that is either figuratively or literally going to get punched in the mouth in his life and hopefully is force-fed some humble pie.

Brooks story: True or False?
Doublehalf replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
I think your understanding of the matter is what is shifting because of how detailed and verbose we have to be in order to get the point across that this isn't a matter of denigrating his belief in god but rather his attitude. And after having to fully lay out the reasons people find him a bit insufferable at times you may finally agree but that would mean admitting you may have been partiallly wrong or at least give ground to the opposing viewpoint which is a bridge to far for some on here. -

Brooks story: True or False?

Bro- Are you even aware of how you respond to people in the "non-wrestling" threads? I mean for the love, in this thread alone you clearly have a problem with people that are thinking differently than you. This statement by you is complete hypocrisy. The problem with Brooks is the arrogance that comes through while preaching- it was the same when he said something to the effect or implied that David Taylor wasn't godly enough. That's what is annoying as hell to people. The same way when yourself and others preach about how trump and maga is essentially your religion or prophet. The problem isn't Christianity, it's his penchant for being at the height of pompousness when droning on about it... Carr is equally if not further down the religious continuum and he doesn't act like that and comes across way more likable. I suppose everyone is a hypocrite to some extent when it comes to believing in their own value system and reacting negatively to a differing of opinion and you my friend are no exception- far from it. -

To this point- I had a flashback of Roger Clement's blaming his wife for the HGH he had... Im not sure I can think of one person who was caught cheating in which their first response was "Oops, you got me!" They deny deny deny until it goes away or they can't anymore and that's just the way it's been forever. Where there is this much smoke there is usually fire and anyone not looking at his story with a ton of skepticism is being naive.. His views and comments on others in the past (Specifically DT for me) has earned him no benefit of the doubt from me. -
I think there are a couple things that are bothersome out of the gate with how this has been handled by yourself and others from the start but since you are at least willing to discuss it, I respect the engagement. The few observations I had from the beginning was the manner in which you spoke about it to begin with seemed to take the side of and I'm paraphrasing "this is a beau problem and he needs to shut up or put out a public account" (which he ultimately did in the article) As wrestling personalities, you speculate on things all the time within the sport ie results/outcomes, transfers etc... This seemed to be something that struck some kind of nerve given your initial reaction vs giving an objective viewpoint. The bias was apparent from the start which is fine I suppose. The problem for some of us is that we know and are aware of your many connections within the wrestling community, teams and sources close to the matter and it would seem pretty easy for you to make a couple calls to hear what others would have to say or corroborate Beau's report. There clearly are others that also came forward anonymously as well so this isn't just about Beau. He even stated the sides are not himself and Penn state. I think there was a way to talk about this and report on everything that was said in the article and have a discussion around its merits, and potentially consequences for all should it be true (which you could get a sense of from your sources.) a couple things are possible: 1. This is incendiary as all hell and you don't want any part in talking about it which is fine, maybe just explicitly state you feel personally uncomfortable talking about (your initial characterization of Beau felt like you were overly dismissive of him vs taking a middle of the road stance) 2. You know there could be consequences in talking about this in the vein of falling out of favor with your sources and connections and chose to preserve those over speaking about this publicly. 3. Maybe you did call and no one talked to your or advised you to be careful and not to draw attention to it so that people wouldn't be viewed in a bad light. One thing is certain though and that ship sailed as soon as the article came out. I just think if this were a different topic you would have gone all in at getting information but because it could be damaging you took the hands off approach which hasn't seemed to be your style on most other things. You could have called the guy that wrote the article for more context as well. speaking about the situation and its potential ramifications is not irresponsible and frankly what the biggest news is in the sport right now. One thing is certain, if you chose to talk more about this, you'd get a lot more clicks, eyes and ears on your content because that's what people want to hear about right now right wrong or indifferent.

Now when someone says something is a nothing burger, it almost immediately sounds alarm bells in my mind that there is probably more there than they are letting on or there is a hidden agenda to not talk about it...
