  1. You forgot the last and most important category: 8. Big Balls Starocci wins in a land slide.
  2. I think Treigning Lab has helped Yianni out considerably...
  3. There is something to be said about picking yourself up after defeat and moving forward. There is honor in that. The Brands constantly preach to "get the next best thing" and not without good reason. It has nothing to do with the team score. Again, if he doesn't show up to the US Open, I will assume there was some additional injury. If there was no difference to his health from earlier in the season, he should have wrestled.
  4. Yes. He went one and done at U23 57 kg last year which I presume was in part due to the cut. If he is going to be competitive internationally at 57 kg, he'll have to manage his weight perfectly and even that might not be enough. I think he would find more success internationally at 65 in the long term.
  5. It's great that someone with Chael's visibility is promoting wrestling. He does play fast and loose with the facts but the point holds. And holding wrestlers out of duals thereby preventing great in-season matchups is even worse for the sport than consolation forfeits. Unless Spencer had an emergent injury, he should have finished out the tournament.
  6. Cejudo's run through the 2008 Olympics would not have been possible without Terry's mentorship. Cejudo was a fantastic talent but he won with grit that was forged through his relationship with Brands. I remember watching video of some of the training sessions during the run-up to Beijing and it was clear Henry bought in. It wasn't as clear whether the others present did (beyond Mocco). https://www.flowrestling.org/video/6255162-the-saga-of-terry-brands-and-henry-cejudo It was also clear his athletes at UTC loved him. I think it would have been taxing to have them as teammates (look at Todd Tarpley's writings) and horrible to be their opponent but I doubt there are too many people who regret having them in their corner.
  7. Post seems kinda harsh. Terry's handling of Henry Cejudo is evidence enough for me of his coaching abilities. However, I think it is probably reasonable to ask whether both of them need to be there. Would probably benefit the team to have a broader range of perspectives and skillsets within the coaching staff. Also might want to reevaluate whether Morningstar and Telford are the right guys for the job. But TNT seem loyal to "their" guys. Their biggest weakness is clearly the inability to identify and recruit elite talent. Outside of Lee, I don't think most of the guys in their lineup over the past 10 years would have been high-priority targets for PSU. It is unclear to me whether any other coaching staff would have much more success with the guys they get.
  8. Pretty sure that Burroughs would not trade for two more NCAA titles if it meant his skillset at graduation was similar to the other 4-timers, sans Sanderson. I can guarantee Burroughs likes his 7 world/Olympic titles far more than two extra NCAA titles. Which is the point made by Socratease. Despite having "only" 2 NCAA titles, he achieved a higher level of wrestling while in college than any 4-timer with the exception of possibly Sanderson. Great for Cornell. They were able to get two recruits who were outstanding from the start and developed them. No freshman redshirt. Might have something similar with Shapiro next year. But the point stands that the obsession with 4 might be a little misguided as a metric to define overall greatness.
  9. I have to agree with @SocraTease's sentiment. Peak performance is as/more important than sustained excellence to determine GOAT status. To win 4 titles without a truly dominant season against run-of-the-mill competition rings hollow. And while sustained excellence might suggest truly outstanding performances within that reign, that isn't always the case. Jordan Burroughs's 2011 season was more impressive than any that Yianni, Steiber, Smith and possibly Dake had. Pure domination in a competitive weight class and then went on to win Worlds in a stacked weight with a horrible draw without much beyond his folk style skillset.
  10. He has no business going 57 kg internationally with same-day weigh-ins. I don't care if his buddy is competing for the same spot- Vito with an extra 10 pounds of muscle would be a force of nature. He can wrestle 141 next year and contend for the 65 kg spot in the Spring.
  11. This popped up on my Twitter feed that is devoid of wrestling:
  12. It was certainly odd to implicate Perry when it really added nothing to Fix's defense. I am guessing the fact that former Hawkeye Chris Campbell being on the USADA arbitration panel didn't hurt.
  13. It's legit. He's a sports reporter in Iowa.
  14. He tested positive for the PED ostarine. His claims that he ingested it unknowingly when he drank from the wrong water bottle from the refrigerator in the garage of his family's home. Allegedly, his father was taking ostarine at the recommendation of Chris Perry. This excuse was the second attempt to deny knowingly taking the drug (he first claimed it must have incidentally present in supplements that he was taking). John Smith should have cleaned house after this happened. https://www.cowboysrideforfree.com/pokes-gone-pro/2020/9/8/21427760/oklahoma-state-wrestling-daton-fix-one-year-suspension-usada-failed-anti-doping-test-ostarine
  15. Of all the matches, I think Vito-RBY has the potential to have the most aesthetically pleasing, high-level wrestling. Let's see how much they let the fur fly. Ramos-Glory has the potential to end up being a firefight if Ramos finds himself behind which should be exciting in its own right. Will also be interested to see KOT-Carr part III. I think the previous match-ups helped O'Toole adjust to make this highly competitive.
  16. The way Spencer Lee blows his load in the first would make Peter North blush.
  17. The guy shouldn't even be wrestling. The excuse given for his failed test is an insult to everyone's intelligence.
  18. He wrestled a number of his matches at 133 this year, presumably because of the difficulty of the cut. If he wrestled 133 simply to get better competition, then he would not have gone down to 125 in the one instance where he could have faced stiff competition (Arujua). I feel Glory is someone whose performance will be significantly impacted by his opportunity to recover, more so than most other wrestlers due to his size. Both times Lee face Glory, there wasn't ten hours of recovery. And even in those matches, Glory had Lee in some compromising positions. If Spencer Lee never had a serious injury, this would be a moot point but that isn't how things worked out for him unfortunately.
  19. I think full-feed Glory is going to be a handful come Saturday night. This is his vision quest and I get Sebastian Rivera vibes from him. His previous matches with Lee were more competitive than what the scoreboard indicated and I am guessing he has been game planning since the last match. I hope Lee wins in dominant fashion as I think Glory's gaming of the weight management rules is pretty lame. Let's see.
  20. Can someone post the results up until now?
  21. Penn State is just progressive. They're paving the way for the acceptance of pronouns in NCAA wrestling through their liberal use of He...
  22. You still don't understand the reference. It's OK. Pearls before swine as they say. You remind me of someone that used to post on the wiwrestling forums. Always quick to get into pissing matches over nothing. Often wrong but never in doubt. I think his name was Paul something or other and used a weight class in his screen name ...I'll remember at some point. Some of his background was similar to what you've disclosed here. Interesting coincidence.
