    I don't see the democrats or the Taliban20 giving in any time soon. If 12 republicans leave or vote 'present' then Jeffries is speaker as well. If McCarthy makes a deal and reneges, they'll never vote for anything he wants and he will have a 'move to vacate the speaker' motion started against him. He's in a real tight spot.

    After a fifth round of voting, the House failed once again to elect a speaker. The vote totals for the fifth round: Hakeem Jeffries – 212 Kevin McCarthy – 201 Byron Donalds – 20 Other – 0 Present – 1 Once again, McCarthy was unable to move a single vote in his favor.
