  1. State College is not the easiest place to get to by air. I wish we'd stop doing that.
  2. Make him work the coaches' hospitality rooms at tournaments for a year. No harsher punishment exists.
  3. I doubt it. They punch back there.
  4. Eliminate riding time and add the pushout.
  5. I wasn't being rude. It was just called the Iowa ride when I was competing.
  6. At what point does the UFC consume enough people like Ferarri and Paul and it becomes a 'I want to watch these guys eat fists' type of entertainment. BTW, where's Downey?
  7. Does that include sitting on an Iowa ride where the ankle is tucked into the back of the knee?
  8. At 72s. We shall see. Blades v Makoyed might be more interesting. I've seen Blades try to be physical with Mensah Stock, but doing that with Makoyed might result in a fist fight.
  9. So, seeding is supposedly going to be done differently this year. Again. https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2023/April/05/Performance-Index-announcement Here's the top 10 'ranked' women from the article. I'm not sure how this works. It's opaque. Grey and Kilty haven't wrestled lately... How are they in the top 10? Is it body of work? Over what time period? Is the seeding committee going to take head to head matches? What counts for what? Gray gets the #1 seed, clearly. After that, who knows? If I were seeding the rest of the field, I'd go Makoyed Guilford Bell and stop there. If Gray is back to form, then she wins. Welker got hurt at women's nationals. Makoyed v Guilford - take 5 should be good. Coin toss. Bell is hit and miss. Kimber might make a run. Blades is young. The rest are in the air.
  10. I'll lay down my markers for US Open winners. 50kg - Golston Dark horse - Jimenez 53kg - Fearnside Dark horse - Jaslynn Gallegos 55kg - Winchester Dark horse - None 57kg - Mota-Pettis Dark horse - Guerin 59kg - Nelson Dark horse - Nwachukwu 62kg - Page Dark horse - Garcia 65kg - Kilty Dark horse - None 68kg - Molinari Dark horse - Piearcey 72kg - Magee Dark horse - Levendusky 76kg - Gray Dark horse - None
  11. Women's preview is out. https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2023/April/19/US-Open-Womens-Preview
  12. Likely wrong then...
  13. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/10889236-why-was-sage-mortimer-disqualified-from-u23-nationals
  14. I'm pleasantly surprised by the size of the women's brackets. There aren't too many big names missing either.
  15. There's always a segment of the wrestling community that says, "Well, wrestling isn't for wusses!" to justify stuff. Let me ask you guys a different question, "How many world team members use moves that way?" For example, Sarah Hildebrandt is the QUEEN of the front headlock. She scores from there quite reliably. She doesn't run that move for head to mat contact. In fact, I've never seen a match of hers that had anything remotely similar to Mortimer's match. Do we see a lot of 'hard crossfaces from left field' from Dake or Taylor of Burroughs? Does Lee or Suriano regularly choke out their opponents with hard guys yelling from the stands, "protect ur neck, yo!" at their opponents? . . . It seems like that in the long run, the further you get in this sport, the less you see of this stuff...because it isn't necessary and is likely counterproductive. It's rookie level shit.
  16. Then have a beer with him, but don't let him ref. Young refs usually get better, but if you're on your 5th year of reffing or later and you're still screwing the pooch on a regular basis, stop disrespecting the athletes and become a pairing official or something.
  17. Fair enough. Welcome to women's wrestling, where the refs are terrible and the parents scream at the screen. I have my own list of women's refs who should never, ever, ever be allowed to ref another match. I give you the most cringey moment. The center ref overruled the Trackwrestling tiebreaker criteria and Mike Jones filed his one and only challenge of his coaching career. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/5061169-they-re-wrestled-a-semifinal-at-wcwa-nationals
  18. I think that the fact that she got knocked out (and that Mortimer seemed to know it and didn't stop) prompted the review.
  19. So what is your guess as to why all four refs came to the same conclusion and DQ'd Mortimer from the tournament? It can only be from the Brutality clause in the rules.
  20. The center ref? Why?
  21. The fact that she was knocked out by those two bounces would warrant a long look at the video. That's not a common occurrence at this level of competition. In the video review, I think it looks like it was intentional. The refs at the tournament came to the same conclusion. The takedown was revoked and points removed from Mortimer. See also, Vayle Baker's headbutt that got her DQd from the tournament.
  22. Perhaps a salient point is that four referees on site determined that it was a disqualifying move?
  23. That's a straight pushout. Shouldn't be a caution on that.
  24. That is so on brand. Heads up, that twitter is definitely NSFW!
