I'm convinced that the people in charge of NCAA wrestling have one goal and it's to make the sport as unattractive as possible to ensure lack of fan interest. If they cared one iota they'd have big matches scheduled at least 3 out of 7 days each week. If basketball can have games on ESPN every night wrestling should be able to schedule top-20 matchups 3 days a week. In reality they ought to be able to have a decent event every night so 3 days a week shouldn't be too much to ask.

Nobody is in charge of NCAA Wrestling in that regard. Basketball does it because ESPN basically says that they get to show up on TV at X time on Mondays, or Y time on Tuesdays, etc. Wrestling doesn't have that situation, so they schedule things to minimize class time missed, which means they compete on weekends.

The only other sport that competes on weekdays as regularly as basketball is golf, and that's because the courses used are often only available during the week.
