Our local Head Start is full of families experiencing food insecurity.  Despite having jobs, their SNAP benefits and paychecks only stretch so far. The school provides take home bags of staple goods on weekends to help offset.

Politics are a dirty game.   Schedule something like this an election or two out.  If your still in power go get sound bites showing super awesome you are extending it.   If you happen to be out of power.  Go get sound bites and demonize your enemy.
