I recall in a recent interview saying "I wish people could see me in practice I am a lot better in practice". I also wonder if he bought into everyone saying he was going to steam roll the field so the moment he hit adversity he was not able to recover.

This is why the earlier comment that he should wrestle more tournaments makes good sense.  Combine that with his remark in the interview about how many more worlds Snyder has competed in.  Obviously worlds are just once a year but I think he needs more matches.  He says he's way better in practice. This is not uncommon in sports.  The remedy is to compete in non practice situations more.  He is not someone who has showed a lot of ability to adapt in challenging matches, I think he would be well served to get more reps outside the practice cocoon.  Again, this is very common in many sports.  There's only one way to replicate competition which is to enter competitions.

I'm not familiar with the practice quote, but I think it's kind of the opposite. Spencer has admitted in interviews that he gets really nervous before every match, whether it's for a gold mdeal or just an exhibition. He's probably wrestled in hundreds of tournaments in his life by now so I don't know if competing more alone will fix his nerves. I feel like a good approach would be to first learn to get a handle on his anxiety, then wrestle more tournaments and use those techniques to develop his  confidence.

Interestingly, Ramos faced similar demons but worked with a sports psychologist to overcome it. He frequently mentioned incorporating self-talk and visualization into his pre-match routine. I guess the weird center mat staredown stuff that some people used to ridicule was also part of it, and it seemed to work out pretty well for him.

Nicely put.  I think however he develops an approach to managing nerves, he should enter tournaments to give himself reps with that approach.  If you've got a competition related issue, the only way you can develop a different approach is with competition reps.
