I would think Goodale's seat is getting a bit uncomfortable.  New Jersey is as good as wrestling gets...  Rutgers not so much.

No.  Rutgers was a d3 talent program before he arrived to make them respectable.

Rutgers.

Goodale has taken them a long way to be somewhat competitive in the B10.  So he's done well on that and kudos to his energy and intent to do well.  But to take near the top ten with yearly AA's and a NC here and there - not the guy.  No intended knock but he's like their football coach Schiano.  Talks and sounds the same.  They're great at promoting and talking a big game " it will come in time, we are on the right road, etc" type talk.  But they're not really great at matching the talk to the results but yet great at keeping their jobs and having big budgets for their teams.

Too many recruits have fizzled out nor developed and crucial personnel gone too - Donnie, Ash.

They're 0 and like 50 against the top teams in B10 and one win in last few years against a top 10 team.  Have good dual record because a lot of the wins are not ranked teams.

Can't AA when your guys are not top 10 ranked in season and get low seeds in NCAA tourney.  Yet this is where the great teams are measured - AA and NC not NQ.

Tough dynamic in NJ where most of the best wrestlers go elsewhere.  Need a big name coach who's a magnet and can overcome the perception issue.  Also, need a strong club with accomplished studs in the room for the RU team to learn from and practice with.   Need to copy the NLWC model best you can.

Here's the real issue:

RU is in the wrong conference - all sports.  They're not cut out for the B10.  The better fit would've been in the ACC.  And for wrestling they'd still be behind VT, NCST and possibly UNC.

He should've went after Joey Blaze... would've helped him lock down Marcus Blaze and the bucks would have a finalist right now. But hindsight is 20/20.

They need to bring back Tervel somehow. I think he's the secret sauce at Nebraska.

It's a series of events, but if tOSU doesn't throw that brick looking for extra nearfall in the Cannon vs Fish match, who knows what we're looking at now. Cannon was a B10 finalist and and won decisively over Saldate, Miller, and Askey. If he wins that match with Fish, he could have very well beaten Chumbley and Blaze and been in the finals. That's not how it worked out, and here we are. Tervel does seem like a major loss, especially seeing the lack of development in their upper weights over the last handful of years. I definitely thought we'd see Feldman step into his own this year, but that was definitely not the case.
