Boise State volleyball forfeits in conference tourney over trans player

I commend them for doing this, although I’m curious if it was actually their choice.

This video seems odd to me, they’re celebrating their win in the previous round and they already know their opponent is going to be the one with the trans player, but the trans players don’t seem to know they’re about to forfeit.

I’ve also noticed the Idaho governor has been posting about this topic on x often.  Is it possible this wasn’t the team’s choice?

In the regular season… the following teams did not want to play a man and forfeited.

Boise’s state

Wyoming

Utah state

Nevada

Wyoming again

Boise state again

Boise state in the conf tourney

Don't be a dumb ass. Learn what the debate about the issue is first hand.

Learn what is true and what isn't true. Dig deeper and find the truth. It isn't hard.

The truth is maybe a few minutes away. Find that.

Post then.

I think this is the 6th or 7th team to fft…. A lot of women don’t want to play against men.

Yes I’m aware.  But the conference tourney is a lot different than a regular season game.

And speaking of the other teams, it does appear that “outside pressure” was involved in Wyoming forfeiting.

Again, I am all for them forfeiting if that’s what the players choose, but hopefully it’s actually them that chose.

Thanks @RockLobster

Found it.    I googled it a little.

SJSU athletes among  others are suing….

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna180335

a quote from the article

The plaintiffs — including SJSU volleyball co-captain Brooke Slusser and 10 other current and former student athletes in the Mountain West Conference — claim their Title IX rights are being violated by allowing a transgender athlete to play for a women’s sports team.”

Here is a second one from The Nevada team @RockLobster

quote  “The vast majority of our team decided this is something we wanted to take a stand on,” Liilii said. “We didn’t want to play against a male player.

“In all of our team meetings it just kept coming back to the fact that men do not belong in women’s sports. If you’re born a biological male, you don’t belong in women’s sports. It’s not even about this individual athlete. It’s about fair competition and safety for everyone.”

Yes in the case of Nevada it seems clear it was the players’ choice, as evidenced by their official statement.  Not so much for Boise State and Wyoming who as far as I’m aware only issued vague statements.  The most recent one from Boise State was particularly weird IMO, saying they “had to” forfeit.  Maybe I’m reading too much into it but I also find it interesting that they did not post anything about it on their official x profile, despite multiple posts during and after their win in the previous round

Your comment is fair.  I don’t know how to answer that.

Google it more.

You'll find that all the teams have been following the conference rules 100% to the letter.

No teams have violated the rights of any athlete.

You are POS poster. You "googled it a little"... which is a BS excuse to pretend to be more ignorant than you are.

All the teams and players have all been following conference rules. Period.

The rest of 'outrage' is a combination of BS, and lawyers hoping to cash in. Nothing more.

And many/all of the girls.  Who don’t want to play against men.    Are fft’ing games.

I can make some of the font bold… but I can’t make chicks want to play against dudes.

If the Nevada team wanted to take a stand - it is a path that is well defined.

Seeking to consult the Conference about potential challenges is well within their reach.

The Conference is where the rules are defined and enforced. THAT is where the topic needs to be elevated to.

The junk posts about all the other BS needn't apply.

This is a Conference issue. Nothing more or less.

I don’t know for sure but I’m afraid the women are being used as pawns for political theater.

IMO, if I was in their shoes I would rather beat the trans player than forfeit.   Especially since she doesn’t even seem to be all that good.

Don't be a f'ing lawyer moron.

The Conference has rules - and those are the rules.

Drumming up BS is something that China would be doing to us right now, and/or Iran.

Not legitimate US citizens with any sense of responsibility.

The teams play by the rules they all agreed to. Period. (Yes, they all agreed to them.)

If they don't like the rules - between now and next year - it's time to engage with the Conference on rule changes.

Just like any US citizen, we all have to abide by the rules. At least until we are able to change them.

The whole thing is stupid. The NCAA and the conferences have rules and guidelines for this sort of thing. If these schools don't like the rules, the NCAA is a voluntary organization and they don't need to be members if they disagree with policies. The NAIA is a healthy alternative.

Also rules can change, but not really in the middle of the season.   My guess is folks are trying to highlight the issue now so that they will change the rules later.  Unfortunately any players involuntarily forfeiting are collateral damage.

Nobody seemed to care about her playing for the last couple of years.

He didn’t start identifying this way until April 2024….   Apparently he was conspiring to attack the team captain as well for not wanting to include him on the team.

I believe even the girl on the same team that’s suing says she lived with Fleming for months before realizing she was trans.   I agree she shouldn’t be playing, but those calling it a “safety issue” are reaching IMO.  She seems to be above average, but that’s about it.  If her participating is a safety issue then it’s also a safety issue for Carter Starocci and Gable Steveson to still have eligibility also.
