Not that they weren't great wrestlers, but they were not at the level of a Bo or Cormier from a pedigree standpoint. Would love to seem them wrestle in the cage but they are there to get paid.

Oh, I 100% agree.  Gaethje has said as much.

I'm just responding to the thread which seems to think it is 2013 and American wrestlers are champs in half the weight classes (as opposed to only one)

Dan Henderson, Don Frye, Dan Severn, Randy Couture.... just to name some former college wrestlers that were very successful in their MMA careers.  These guys, I believe, paved the way for the college wrestler to have other options outside of trying to make a world/olympic team.  Frankie Edgar, Cormier, Triple C have continued the trend of former wrestlers doing very well in the UFC.

As it was mentioned earlier, the UFC is getting into the college wrestling scene.  This is year #2 for them to produce and stream matches on Fight Pass.....$2.99 a month and can cancel at anytime...best deal around!....$9.99 a month and you get all the MMA events as well.

Here is a link to their stream of NC State vs Princeton and Rutgers

CFFC Match Day results: Kai Orine, Isaac Trumble pick up Outstanding Wrestler belts as NC State downs Princeton and Rutgers — Cage Fury Fighting Championships

Here is the rest of their wrestling schedule.....pretty strong schedule!

Does the ufc fund boxing or judo or bjj or backyard barn animal fighting?

i not catching whey there is the idea that they are obligated in any way to support wrestling or any other fighting style….. other than this is a wrestling board.    (As pointed out above.  This year two of them supporting….).   Is that not enough?

maybe the beef is really with the wrestlers not giving back?   I’m sure some do.   Some don’t.  Again…. We’re does the “obligation” come from?

Makhachev, Dvalishvili, Topuria, Muhammed, Du Plessis, and Jones all have wrestling experience according to Wikipedia.  6 of 8 men’s champs seems like a pretty good ratio

LOL the whole thing is "College wrestling"  Do't change the argument.

How many of those guys wrestled for American colleges?

Belal wrestled for like two years in high school.  Topuria wrestled as a youngster than switched to hockey.  Duplessis from the formidable SA Greco program.  Can you find any Makhachev results?  Pretty sure he's Sombo.

Again: this is "UFC should help college wrestling."  Which UFC top 15 wrestled in an American college?

UFC should support Karate because GSP and Machida were Karate fighters and like really really good 15 years ago!

Fair!   Gsp wrestled a bit too no?  Always heard he trained with national team.

That is all true, but everyone has to wrestle, box, kickbox, and do bjj. (at least to be able to prevent it.

While Topuria wrestled as a little kid, he is arguably the best boxer in MMA history.

UFC is largely dominated by striking atm

Wrestling is super super important; I am just opposed to the fallacious belief that the talent pool would dry up without NCAA wrestling.

Earlier you said this, which didn’t seem limited to NCAA.  Yes I know some of those guys may not necessarily have a wrestling “base,” but I’m sure their experience helped them.  Doesn’t everyone from Dagestan wrestle?

I can see where I might be misunderstood there; definitely.  However, I thought it was understood that we were talking college wrestling.  Apologies on that one.

Now lets do basketball or soccer bases... I bet we get more than wrestling.
