related question, did Bruce Baumgartner ever beat an NCAA champ? A troll friend says he sucks because he never beat anyone who won NCAAs.

We had a good thread a year ago which was about which non-champs beat the most NCAA champs of all time.  But this is a broader question than that.  Seems like its hard to spitball this kind of answer.  Too much data to consider.  WKN is gonna come in to save the day

I'm guessing one of the studs from the 2008 149lb group might have the most; Brent Metcalf, Bubba Jenkins, Jordan Burroughs, Darrion Caldwell, J.P. O'Connor, & Dustin Schlatter

Agree. Metcalf beat quite a few.  Especially those who graduated after he did who eventually won at 157 or 165 I think.  Going only with my faulty memory:  Schlatter, Caldwell, Burroughs? Jenkins? Gillespie?  Did the tOSU guy ever win NCAA?

I think he might be including Nolf and Dieringer in his mental count. Who knows, he might think Marsteller is an NCAA champ.

Probably too old to get results from but I wonder about Lewboo… from my perspective only folkstyle counts though ……..

you think he has more than five?  Rivera seems to be leading at the moment

Clarifying question:  Did they have to beat the other champ after the other had been the champ?  Or does beating someone who already was or eventually became champ count?  Technically, only the first circumstance is "to beat an NCAA champ".

Or, maybe we should just do both categories!!  Wrestling nerds, untie!

This is a good one.

Craziest thing is that he doesn't even have one of his own!  He was still always one of my favorites to watch.  With how crowded the US national team is, I was excited to see him get his chance with PR on the world scene.

He always brought it. And I liked his attitude. Unfortunately, his body didn't always comply with his will

worth mentioning, he had two convincing wins over spencer lee, we tend to forget it I think.
