The guy that’s on the BEG podcast that’s a Cornell fan says the ref is on video saying to the Cornell corner that Ungar was “dazed”

seems like you are trying to claim the significant grey area in the world of concussions as your exclusive property. Not everyone who ever said a kid just "got his bell rung" is wrong.

Didn't Yianni continue wrestling Lee after a concussion that required hospitalization?

If I had a dime for every time I got my bell rung I'd have...wait, I can't remember.

what does that have to do with anything. Zain went out concussed at the olympics.

Ummm... same coaches?

Shapiro.  Yianni. Ungar (seems likely... "dazed" prob means concussed unless he was choked).

Concussed guys who were allowed to wrestle by the same staff.  Three in twelve months.

Is Zain coached by Mike Grey?

so you think the cornell staff is either motivated by stupidity or malice and has a demonstrable habit of putting their athletes at risk for no or trivial reasons.

They want to win.

While you are on the topic of Zain, I'll add Berge and Taylor.

I think they want their jobs more. I guess I'm just saying I'd require more evidence.

Evidence of what?  Both Yianni and Shapiro wrestled right after being concussed.  Ungar maybe as well.

DT wrestled minutes after being knocked unconscious at Worlds.  That is a little different, he is a grown man and it was Worlds;  Berge wrestled after being clearly concussed.  Wasn't ever  the same,; Zain, I'm not sure.

You're talking as if I said no one has ever wrestled with a concussion. I'm talking to you as if you're implying that the cornell staff is in the habit of ignoring the well being of its athletes, which i'm not convinced of.

If you have evidence that Shapiro did not pass the concussion protocol but was allowed to continue the match, please present it.  If you have evidence that Shapiro passed the concussion protocol but nevertheless suffered a concussion, please present it.

Otherwise, please present your view of what it means to be concussed.

How about you do the same, but for Yianni...

I'm not getting into a Cornell debate with a guy named "BigRedFan"  so I will pass. We both know what we saw.

So you are leaning into "Meyer is a drama queen?"

So, you got nothing except an ad hominem and a false dichotomy?  Impressive.

(did it ever occur to you that Shapiro might have something going on besides concussion issues?  Despite my user name, I'm not privy to any inside info on the medical conditions of Cornell wrestlers.  I'm guessing you don't either, but that doesn't stop you from making medical diagnoses from afar)

for the record, one more similar situation and I'll be in complete agreement with you.

For this reason I give them a pass on Yianni, he’s also a grown man that was trying to go to worlds.

I can see that.  But who is to say he was actually concussed.  Maybe it was something else.  I'm not privy to the Spartan Combat medical info.

Apparently both Julian Ramirez (twice, in a match he was losing 18-9 to Maag of George Mason before coming back and getting a fall) and one of their grayshirts Jaxon Joy went into concussion protocol but finished matches during the Patriot Open.

Here is the post on their forum from klehner who used to post at themat:

And...concussion protocol for Jaxon Joy in the final while up 10-1. Finishes match 11-1 looking okay.

Next match, Ramirez...concussion protocol early in first period. I kid you not. Restarting. And another in the second period (while actually losing 8-5).

Restarting, FFS. Losing 18-8 to guy from George Mason. Bordering on coaching malfeasance on Yianni's part.

Losing 18-9, gets a fall at 6:33. Crazy.”

The most interesting thing for me with concussions seemingly being more common at Cornell than other schools (and possible it’s just bad luck) is the dichotomy of how they were “overly cautious” with guys sitting out against ISU last year for example.  If they want to make sure unenrolled guys finish matches at the Patriot Open, we better see all their guys take the mat when they have a tough matchup.

So cautious that guys wrestled in "less important" and "easier" matches, but skipped ISU.
