2001 A Space Odyssey was released

The Beatles released The White Album and Hey Jude

Bob Gibson pitched the single greatest season in baseball history with a 1.12 ERA over 304 innings, but still managed to lose 9 games.

Apollo 8 became the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon.

The country was in the midst of the Vietnam war, and it was dawning on the public that we were losing the war.

A civil rights icon and presidential candidate were assassinated, and a former vice president named Richard Nixon was elected President.

And it was the last time the U.S. Men's freestyle team competed in the Olympics, but did not win a gold modal.  Kyle Snyder and Zain Retherford, two chances to keep the streak alive.  Can they do it?

There was more weights back then but versus expectations this tops them all

I recognize Snyder's ability to play up to his competition but frankly he hasn't done it in quite many years. Taz will roll him. Zain is going to lose a Metcalf grinder with a lack of freestyle fluidity.

Both are coached by Sanderson. Just something to monitor tomorrow. Specifically zain late in matches.

The difference in weights is definitely the main factor here, but "Russia proper" didn't even send athletes this time.  I'm just saying there is a streak to keep alive tomorrow, regardless of the fact that it is more difficult to keep it alive these days.

Did they win gold in 2000? I don’t think they did until Slay got it somewhat recently from failed drug tests

It was a couple months after, with a medal ceremony for all three medalists on the today show.

If they win medals in 5/6 weights, it’s percentage wise one is their top years.

Jeez people.

Well, that won’t be happening.

Women made a great showing, and the men scored hardware in 3 of 6 weights so far.  Dake and Snyder are beyond their prime and Lee has a questionable knee.  Brooks lapsed in the waining seconds.  Such is life.  Overall, nothing to be ashamed of.

And expectation wise one of if not the worst (without Russia)

No getting around it. We shit the bed. Tactical coaching errors. Mental preparation. Did not live up to our talent. Unacceptable.

Except for brands. Who should replace zadick
