Vito is going to MAJOR Fix tonight

Recommended Posts

He already beat him 11-3 in the semis last and this year he’ll do it again.

Vito will be hitting Fix often with his elbow pass to quick side step to single leg take down and probably right to his back a few times. Tech perhaps?

It's really pathetic that he is 26, was highly touted out of HS, barely squeaks by in the quarters and semis and will lose tonight.

Kaboom.  Are you sure you want to use the word "pathetic"?

Seems quite accomplished to me.

I still can’t get over the crowd booing Fix last night. Can anyone there confirm it was Fix they were booing at, or was it another match?

can't say i ever recall two Long Island wrestlers in the final:  Vito and Teemer.  Good job, strong island representing!

Jesse Jantzen sec 11 / Harvard immediately comes to mind.

I thought Vito and Fix were both part of the HS class of 2017 — only difference is that this is Vito’s fourth NCAA tournament and Fix’s fifth. I think Fix is somehow a little older, too.

Interestingly, both are world medalists. That doesn’t happen every day in the NCAA finals.

Will he break the record for most 2nd place finishes tonight? I’d like to see him come out aggressive and throw caution to the wind. But that ain’t gonna happen.

7 tied at 3

Regarding two Long Islanders in the finals I knew it happened a few times during what many would consider the heyday of LI wrestling (well the heyday + 2-5 college years). So we have:

1985: Chris Edmund (Tennessee/Freeport) wins (defeating an upstate NY guy from LI's Hofstra) Pete Capone; Wayne Catan (Syracuse/Bellport) loses

1986: Al Palacio (Long Beach/North Carolina), Pete Yozzo (Lehigh/Sayville), and Wayne Catan all lose

Yozzo won in 1987.

Yozzo had one of the slickest ankle picks I’ve ever seen.

Didn't JB confirm it on the broadcast?

That was definitely the match that got the boos. I think people may have issues with Fix being in his 7th year of college which is absurd (not just for him there are others but he has become the poster boy for the absurdity) but I'm certain much of the booing was at the refs. Wrestling used to be decided on the mat (between 19-22 year olds!) and now appears to often be decided by committee.

I’d like to hear it from one of you who is there. It’s hard to believe a large portion of the crowd would boo any wrestler especially after winning. I do not appreciate the kids wrestling style but I would never participate in booing him knowing he has parents there supporting him.

The refs I believe- no way I can be convinced it was directed towards the wrestler.

Then again the wrestling community has been very outspoken against some of its best wrestlers lately. I get it there’s meanness everywhere and in every sport but some more than others. Take a look at some of the pricks in here and in the international forum. It’s just human nature I guess.

People booing because of his 7th year?? Not sure about that. I was thinking it was his Lewan-ism tactics.
