Edmond and Mocco with losses in the finals. Kal Miller and Aden Kemp or Cal Poly. Clayton Whitting beats both Harmon and Hawks to win the championship. Is he now the starter?

As a KC guy, I don't like to say it, but Kal stalled his butt off (which surprises me, because that's not his style).  Doesn't mean that Edmonds shouldn't have displayed more, but the lack of stalling calls in that match was ridiculous.  Miller didn't do anything until OT and Clemson knew it.

Hawks is the starter regardless of this match. He is a world level athlete but loses silly ones like this...doesn't make sense. Neither does Seltzer, Edmonds of Mocco losing. Can't explain it. But, it'll all work itself out by the end of the season...

Why is Hawks locked in as the starter? Whiting has had some really nice wins in his career also. I would think it’s something that will be decided throughout the season because they seem to be very even. Both seem to be a slight notch about Harmon.

Just my opinion. I would think because Hawks made it to R16 at NCAA's...

Mizzou has 5 duals and the Cougar Clash (SIUE) before the new year. I expect the decision who goes 2nd semester will be based on the sum total of their performances at that point. Most likely Whiting will get the nod in their next dual at ASU due to this win. Having them both available for duals gives them some flexibility and that can be an advantage in a dual setting. I’m sure nothing is set in stone just yet.

And last year Hawks won in the finals over Harman who started in the next dual.

With none of them having rs left, I would say they could interchange any of the three. I would agree nothing is set in stone, and I admit I am biased.

This is my opinion so take it for what it is. Whitting should start. He’s earned it. Hawks maybe be a former World Team member, but that was the past. He’s plateaued offensively. Whitting who was third string last year has obviously gained on both Hawks and Harmon. Yes Smith could use each wrestler in spots, but right now it has to be Whitting.

Dominic Mendez of Cal Poly over Braxton Brown of Maryland 21-12

The "Andrew Alton gas tank" version of Braxton Brown will continue to struggle this year.

Personally I'd like to see Hawks there, but either guy should do well for the Tigers.

Smith will do what’s best for the team, we all know that. If that’s Hawks I’d root for him just as I would anyone else. As a fan I’d like to see Whittling. See what he brings to the table.

I’ve been told that Hawks is the best pure athlete on the team. Which means Whiting is the better “wrestler” and he’s only a freshman. I was really hoping he’d make a jump this year to AA caliber, but this loss casts doubt on that.

Reminds me a little of Bradley/Ellis in 2009. Ellis was returning starter (r12) and word was Bradley was beating him in the room (as well as a Nov open, iirc). Nonetheless, Ellis retained his spot and was Champ that year. Colton Hawks, 2024 NCAA 184lb Champ. Book it!

Well, looks like as a FAN, you’ll get your wish this weekend. Sounds like WHITING will be starting.

In 2010 Bradley beat Ellis at the Central Missouri Open and the Nittany Lion Open, but Smith still kept Ellis as the starter.  I guess it was pretty hard to bench the returning national champ, even though he only finished 22-13 his senior season.  I'm betting we'll see some back and forth on the roster at 184.

I am 💯 more a Hawks fan than a Whiting fan - and that has only increased with the behavior this past weekend, which has also exposed some things that were going on the past few weeks that came to light.

I would love to see Hawks as the 2024 NCAA champ, but I know that is more than likely not going to be the case.

I also would not be surprised to see some back and forth at 184. Smith said as much in his after tourney interview. But then again, he says a lot of things and then changes what he actually does.

It’s only the first week and half of each of the 184s match’s have been against each other. A lot can happen between now and March.

I assure you I’m exactly that, a fan. No dog in the fight. Been watching Hawks since GAC days when I would come home and catch a dual or tournament that FHC was attending. We will see how it plays out. Both top 50 recruits coming out, will be interesting for sure.

Will Brooks also beat Chandler in the Black and Gold and possibly an open(Lindenwood) maybe and Smith stayed with Chandler.

Think you mean Emanuel Brooks.  He fought Will Brooks in MMA.
