No sprint from Maroulis.  Not even an attempt to.

Easy victory for Japan.  6-0.

These Japanese ladies just don't stop fighting and they have broken two of our greatest ever today in Maroulis and Gray.

Man.  This lady from Japan is also only 22 years old.

When I  always talk about Japan's womens team and their depth, this is a great example.  She was the 2021 55kg senior world champ, bumped up to 57 and and won last year.

Most of her offense comes from ties. Sakurai controlled the ties and anticipated the foot sweep.

Exactly the same as last year.

Worse than last year as Japan was able to convert it to more points this year.

We need Japan to win the 76 KG match here.  Not sure about this Cubana here.  Super long name that I don't care to google.

Otoguro update from hours earlier, couldn't post....

I remember him getting off the mat earlier this year in the Japanese trials slowly, looked like his leg.  Same injury happened again in the match he got pinned yesterday.  He said that he was going to have to forfeit because he couldn't stand.  That's when he didn't know they called a touch fall.

Nvm.  I did.  She didn't do much last year at Worlds.  1W - 1L with a loss to Ukraine who lost to someone who lost to someone who lost to someone.

This Cubana is giving Japan fits.  Not really a think I expected.

3-0 Japan with 2M20S to go.

The first ever women's junior champ from Cuba, 2019

She scored 4 in the last seconds of her semi, suplex like Blades

Japan wins, Gray to repechage.

I like Gray's chances. I can't imagine it'll be pretty, but hopefully Gray's composure will overcome the Cuban's aggression. I'm sure she's studying.
