It goes both ways…

We already have a controversial thread about that…no need to drag it over here, too.

But, in seriousness, that’s cool that they’ve brought Greco to the girls, side. Is this the first year (at least at the national level)?

You know what hopefully never comes to fruition as an unfortunate truth.

If (when) Greco gets added as a Women's sport at the Olympics it will likely cause them to reduce weight classes again.

Right now they offer 18 Gold, 18 Silver, and 36 Bronze.

That number goes to 24, 24, and 48 respectively if they keep the same weights.

I don't see the IOC doing that.

If we are lucky they will go to five weights, or 20/20/40.

A more realistic guess would say they go to four Olympic weights (16/16/32).

women wrestling the man's style maybe the only hope for greco staying in the olympics...

the only "issue" with the medal count is having equal number of medals for both men and women...

and if greco gets kicked out they will just bring in beach wrestling...

which i do not hate...

and will be ruled by greco guys...

I’ve been watching quite a bit of combat sambo lately… would much prefer to see it added to the Olympics than beach wrestling, but neither at the expense of Greco.

nobody should want greco to be out of the olympics, but, reality is reality...

i don't hate sambo at all...

but in this modern age of olympic greatness, we have to make way for breakdancing...

I always figured something like Jujitsu (gi or no gi) would be pushed as the next Combat Sport since it’s got a good international following, would allow some nations that don’t traditionally medal a ton to gain more hardware, and is more ground based and the Olympics doesn’t have much of that in their Combat Sports department.  Not sure why Brazil didn’t push it as one of their Olympics trial sports.

The BJJ world could never pass the WADA tests…

it would be a huge embarrassment…

This is true. Several of the big names would have to cycle off for awhile if they ever wanted a chance at it.
