Is he a BJJ guy or what? He likes to go across the throat with his forearm with double boots if possible. Not a claw ride. Phillippi looked like he was getting choked out in their match today. Byrd seemed to have a big problem with Nagao going across the windpipe at Big Tens and I believe he tried the same thing on RBY too. If I'm in coaching in the opposite corner, you bet I would be yelling at the ref to watch Nagao's chokeholds.

Yeah...he's tough on top. Cutting off oxygen and blood to the brain certainly helps....

I agree, I'd talk to the refs before the match and be on them during.

It looked like Lucas Byrd had a problem with it at Big Tens, despite being a big after match talker. The thing about going across the neck is you can apply it briefly, repeatedly and it can take a toll... but opponents can't really argue a strong case unless they actually pass out.

Counting cards gives a person a slight advantage. That's the kind of advantage that could ruin a casino's night. I think that restricting somebody's oxygen intake is at least a slight advantage. I call him the "Gopher Choker." If he doesn't stop, the name, or an even better one, will stick.

This isn't news, he has been known for his "cross throat" since high school. Here's his first move at state after taking his opponent down. Nagao needs to cut out the dirty wrestling, he's better than that.

He’s literally grabbing the kids shoulder cap and his elbow is straight across. No pressure on the throat at all. There’s nothing dirty about this.

None of your pictures show anything illegal.

There's no pressure on the throat at all? How on EARTH would you possibly know that? Because he's on the shoulder?

Please, he's directly across the throat. I can't tell from this ONE picture if he's choking him or how much pressure is being applied, but your arguments are comical.

Not having choked someone out="Must not be very good at it?"

Or...it's his bread and butter, but he's smart enough to not choke someone out with it or it'll become the focus of every match he wrestles.

Not sure the OP said just coming across the throat is illegal. I'm pretty sure he simply pointed out he...chokes the hell out of people and that if HE were coaching his opponent, he'd be on the ref to make them aware.

It was pretty plainly stated and clearly true...and he didn't say it was illegal. Maybe(probably) dirty though.

Yeah, you have both legs in(which he's very good at) and you keep changing it up and you just spend a few seconds on the neck 3-4 times, you're really gassing a kid out.

Oxygen intake is...fairly important in Wrestling. It's been a few years, but I seem remember that being an emphasis. Otherwise most of us ran a few thousand miles for no good reason!

Yup! I'm a big Bucknell/Pitt fan! THAT is my issue with it! I don't have the objectivity that Minnesota fans have!

And dude, take a Xanax! AGAIN, nobody said it was illegal. Just that he applies pressure to the throat...and that it's dirty.

Lol go grab your buddy’s shoulder cap just like that and keep your arm straight like the picture. That’s literally not a chokehold. It doesn’t restrict any oxygen or blood. Are you new to wrestling? This isn’t anything new. People have been doing this for decades.

Then why would OP go to the refs? It’s not illegal but it’s “dirty” ooook lmao. This is D1 wrestling.

Dude...seriously? A claw ride is one thing...where the elbow is bent. But you're telling me that because you're on the shoulder, you can't be on the throat also? And you're asking if I'M new to Wrestling! 😅

Alright...not my hill! I'll hand it back to Chrome or all the other people who are...apparently making this up and don't know Wrestling!

Yes you moron. The shoulder cap is not in line with the throat.

It may not be an illegal move, but the ref can certainly call it potentially dangerous or just stop it.

Yes...you are correct. WRESTLING. Not MMA. So we should probably try and refrain from...ya know, the choking.

Yes...it's not "in line" with the throat when you're coming from behind and reaching around!

Plenty of guys use a claw ride. Seems like everyone else notices ONE guy in particular who chokes the hell out of people.

You're getting a little worked up here bud. You're going to be at your own oxygen deficit if you don't relax a bit!

Claw ride goes under the near arm.

I had to look up whether Nagao could run into Byrd if they lose in the quarters tomorrow and it doesn't look very likely. It might have been a fun match.
