Appreciate the conversation starter! The ILLINI information is a little off. Most importantly, though, it is "Zac" Braunagel. I suggested that he put a "Hello, my name is Zac" name tag on his singlet. 

Maximo Renteria has a B1G win. That should get him the four and not the three seed in round one.

Lucas Byrd is 8-0 in B1G duals, not 6-1. I would be surprised and disgusted if he's not the #2 seed.

Danny Pucino is 6-2 in conference duals, not 3-2. He has a head-to-head win over your #4 seed, Frankie Tal-Shahar (4-3 in B1G).

Mike Carr is 3-0 in conference duals, not 1-0. I think that you have him at a reasonable #4 seed.

Bartlett is 7-1 in B!Gs

Van Ness is 5-3

Haines is 7-0

Facundo is 6-1

Dean is 8-0 (if you count the forfeit; not sure how they do this)

Thanks for all of the feedback! Like I said I am no pro so definitely take these for whatever my amateur opinion is. @ILLINIWrestlingBlog  @ionel @SocraTease

The conference records I have listed are what they are against the other conference opponents who I think will be the starters. So Mike Carr for example wrestled who I believe will be the Minnesota backup and Maryland backup. So I didn't "count" them in his record but I tried to give "credit" for him beating those opponents. Same thing with PSU records.

Illinois Thoughts/Reasoning

125 the bottom 5 got weird to me and I definitely could be off. Lujan has a coaches ranking in the top 30 but lost to Steen (PSU). Lujan (MSU) beat Moran (IND) and then Moran beat Vespa (PSU) as Steen didn't wrestle so that is one where it doesn't technically appear on Steen's season record form but I would think it is fair to ding Steen for a "loss." Renteria's (ILL) win was against the MSU backup so I don't know how that factors into the equation? Will definitely be interesting.

For Lucas Byrd, that was an interesting one because Mendez beat him but it was back at the MSU open in the very first weekend of the season. Mendez also has the #9 coaches rank and Byrd the #10 and Mendez only has the loss to RBY who Byrd didn't wrestle but there is definitely an argument for Byrd if seeding only goes off of dual meets in conference.

141 got all mixed up from 4-11 with results and that isn't the only weight class this happened. I can definitely see the argument a lot of different ways. Looking at this again I could definitely see Bergeland being lower than I have.

I really appreciate the discussion. I've heard that B1G coaches arrive at their seeds multiple ways, so I'm not sure which is true.

What I've heard multiple times (and it seems most likely to me) is that they send in their seeds for all the weights. The seeds get averaged out into pre-seeds. Then the coaches have a meeting in which they have the right to challenge a wrestler immediately above their guy. 

For example, the coach with the five seed challenges the four seed because his kid has a head-to-head win over him.

I would hate to see the coaches reinforce ducking. A wrestler can only wrestle the man in front of him. On the other hand, Mikey Carr is an example of a wrestler not wrestling many matches--though I think he's got a valid doctor's excuse.

~half the schools are Ag schools.  The pre-seeds are sent in to the Ag schools about a week early and go to the green house.  The ones that sprout are brought to the final seeding meeting.  The tallest sprout on Friday gets the top #1 seed and so on down to the shortest.  

This may or may not be how it works but it's as good a guess as anyone else has.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
