LJB Posted September 10 Posted September 10 @Gene Mills Fan not much to say overall... this is a relatively new tourney... we sent a contingent over a couple of years ago for the inaugural event... we sent 8 senior team members and came home with 6 medals... the only thing of note for me from that tourney was Max beat Roberts there which was big for him personally... clearly, it was just not that great a tourney for competition... of the 4 guys going, only Schierl is on the national team... he got dropped in the finals by Bey fairly easily... he is a scrappy wrestler and the boys like him personally... i guess he wrestled at tOSU... never made a team... why he did not go to Poland with the rest of the national team i could not say... Porter obviously been doing this for a minute... made a senior team a few years ago... he wrestled in Poland and i just feel like he is a little long in the tooth and i can't see any improvements in his game in years... Dominic mad a few age level teams years ago, but, has not really done much since... Wyatt has a couple of age level medals from Pan Ams the last 2 years, but, is not a factor for us at the senior level at 87kg... the biggest takeaway from the above is just known i am not planning on making much effort to get up at 2:30AM to watch, but, i might change my mind by the weekend... 3
Gene Mills Fan Posted September 10 Posted September 10 great info, I figured less names in the brackets because the contingent we are sending. Any world medalists or big names to check out, would be cool to know if you hear.
LJB Posted September 10 Posted September 10 brackets for a tourney like this is always a struggle to actually find... i feel like Max snapped a pic of his and texted to me... i think there were only 2 mats going and i just had them both up on the youtubes and just kept an eye out for the US guys... my total guess is there will not be many big names at this... guys are starting to lock in on worlds and this tourney feels primarily for the other guys... 2
LJB Posted September 18 Posted September 18 shockingly, UWW arena has Valamar... https://arena.hhs.hr/sport-event/show/1f1b33d9-86fc-6224-8b27-5f22ae02ea1b

LJB Posted September 18 Posted September 18 quick perusal of some names entered and surprisingly not a horrible tourney... 67kg- Dominic Damon opens with Rati Khozrevanidze of Georgia who has wrestled for a medal at senior Euros this year and previously wrestled for a medal at U20 worlds... i do not know anything about Damon other than he made a couple of age level world teams 5+ years ago... just tried to watch a match from the open and i do not even recognize him a little... i do not imagine this match is going to go well for him based on the couple of minutes i watched... there is a universe where he gets pulled back into repechage... 82kg- Schierl and Porter will face each other off jump... Porter dropped Schierl earlier this year at Thor Masters 3-2... i feel like this match is a toss up... the winner should face Levai in the semis and that will not go well for either... 87kg- Keenan Wyatt opens up with Abdulmasih of Belarus who has a U20 Bronze from a few years ago... the winner of that will have the honor of getting hulk smashed by Losonczi of Hungary... again, some decent names in this tourney several of which should be at seniors next month...
LJB Posted September 19 Posted September 19 just looking at the brackets... Damon got tech smashed 10-0 by the georgian and then had Snjoyan from france for bronze and got teched 8-0... Otto wrestled Snjoyan at U23s last year and technically pinned him late after Snjoyan was down 4-1 and went YOLO while both super tired... Snjoyan then showed up at the farrell at 72kg and ran house... that kid is soooo long for the weight and not a punk...
LJB Posted September 19 Posted September 19 quick update, Snjoyan is not the correct french men... entirely different dude... kid i was thinking of wrestled for bronze on the oppposite side...
LJB Posted September 19 Posted September 19 anyway... yikes... just watched Damon's matches... Khoz catches a horrible off balanced kinda lat drop type of thing from Damon than 2 Death Sentence's for the 40 second tech... repechage match Damon give up a couple of step outs and then FRA gets to the body and Damon goes straight to his back on the edge for 4... restart an off balance attack and FRA just shucks him by for the 8-0 tech late first...
LJB Posted September 20 Posted September 20 82kg- Porter drops Schierl 6-2 and then gets teched 8-0 by Levai... Porter will have the Fin for bronze... 87kg- Wyatt gets 11-0 teched by one of the Belarusians in the bracket and does not get pulled back into repechage... 1
LJB Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Porter gets totally man handled by the young Fin in the bronze match... immediately off the whistle, the Fin creates an agnle and gets the far hip for a super easy TD and then a turn... gets Porter put down in the 1st and second but no turns... the Fin concedes a step out with one second left for the 6-1 win... the Fin controlled every tie and showed considerably more power in those positions just tossing Porter around and snapping him... porter had to result to his constant bouncing in and out which is just not going to work against anyone who can wrestle greco...
