In JH, I wrestled less than 25 folk matches (maybe lost four). In those same two (summer) years...I wrestled close to a hundred FS/GR matches.

I wrestled Greco in the offseason a little bit (loved making it up to Columbus to wrestle there)…I don’t get the hate on it. I’ve always been like that…challenge myself in different ways.

And I think the key distinction between us and the Iranians are the regional benefits (access, support, training partners, coaching etc) they have. I’m not on the unathletic train because I do believe there’s a distinction in athletic types between the two…while still not being worlds apart. The folk guys might be able to hang around a little bit but that’s not where their focus and growth is, same if you reversed the scenario.

Unfortunately the only way to force Greco where it should be is by succeeding…that’s not necessarily on the athletes when they’re given what they’re given. No offense to coaching staffs or anything but we’re just not on the same level as others.

The key distinction is Iran does not have a college based wrestling system that actively campaigns against Greco…

Greco is just as respected as leg grabbing like pretty much everywhere else in the planet…

nerds just can not fathom that anyone could think differently than they do…

And our top Greco guys are just as athletic as any top wrestler, there is just not a deep enough pool for our top guys to be pushed domestically and not getting that type of push hurts our results internationally…

none of this are hot takes to anyone that is actually involved in wrestling…

It is a bit shocking how anyone who is younger than 50 has no clue this used to be the norm…

because they all were very competitive nationally in HS…

you all just don’t know it because our wrestling “media” is just as ignorant and scared of Greco as the rest of America…

Saying “scared” is pretty silly…it’s not like we’re talking combat sports here. Ignorant sure to a degree but some just don’t like it…

It is 100% scared…

scared to get thrown on their head…

and more importantly scared to take a loss to someone they don’t think they should…

Maybe I am a little crazy…that’s the risk I always got excited about when doing FS/GR…

Otto quit wrestling locally when he was 14 because everyone just grabbed his legs to keep from getting thrown…

Tons of kids/parents are scared and they sure don’t want to end up being another highlight…

i could not count the number of facial stitches and butterflies on the meatheads...

same with broken noses...

looking at otto's teeth you would never know he had braces because they have been rearranged so many times...

greco is exponentially more combative than leg grabbing...

It’s a physical sport for sure…I’ve had head lacerations, dislocated fingers, hospital visits etc but I think we’re being a little to inclusive with the term “combat sport”. There are no strikes or submissions used as the primary means of winning the contest. The injuries that do occur are almost always incidental…

This push where people want to try and make it sexier by making it seem more like mma or something is a little embarrassing really…RAF is really bad about making it more like mma and I get it from a marketing point but it’s not the same. I don’t know to each their own I guess…I’ve never needed the clarifier to seem harder or whatever people think that gets them.

greco is just a much more physical sport than leg grabbing...

it is not even a comparison...

i get if somebody has never actually been very close to senior greco it is just not something they can fathom...

even domestically, senior greco is violent and internationally greco guys are scary...

again, not a hot take for anyone who is actually involved...

Regardless of your thoughts on the father that’s still a 14 year old kid at the time you’re talking about…I’m mean he’s still only 21…I’d bring the gloves up a bit

Based on your later comment of having no depth, I assume when you mean “top Greco guys,” you mean only our #1’s, correct?

it does not matter...

not only is the fukn dummy laughably incorrect on everything he desperately tries to lob, someone hiding behind a screen name talking shit just does not mean anything...

1s and 2s in most cases and some weights are much deeper...

it is not some big secret, but, "fans" only know what they are told and nobody in our wrestling "media" is telling "fans" anything about greco...

taylor lamont made 7 age level greco world teams and was a U20 world medalist...

never made a senior world team, but, 2 senior national teams...

a 5X national qualifier at NCAAs and an AA...

i can never tell if "fans" actually respect being a national qualifier or even "just" an AA as anonymous "fans" only really pay attention to the winners...

i would really appreciate a ruling on this from the anonymous forum nerds...

what is the percentage of HS wrestlers who wrestle in college across all divisions?

less than 4%, yes?

it drops much closer to 1% if we narrow it down to just D1...

that number drops to approx 0.14% of all HS wrestlers who qualify for NCAA D1 nationals...

approx 0.03% of all HS wrestlers actually All American at D1 nationals...

some anonymous forum nerds in the past have said that being nationally ranked in high school means absolutely nothing...

if someone could actually put together a some sort of pie chart for who can actually wrestle in this country so we can then have an intelligent discussion about if our senior greco competitors are "athletic" or "experienced" or can wrestle at all i would very much appreciate it...

i figure this forum that is just chalk full of "wrestlers" would be able to quantify these numbers, yes?

Well our #2’s at 55kg, 60kg, 72kg, 130kg were recently leg grabbers...  Richards was primarily a leg grabber and despite a miraculous run a few years ago switched to Greco almost certainly because he felt that was his better chance to make the national team this year and he was right… Koontz transferred out of D1.  Coon had a great NCAA career but I don’t see him beating our current top leg grabbers at this point in his career. Robb could have a shot at top 3 at 70 or 74.

Our #2 at 77kg is 46 years old, I find it hard to believe he’d be very competitive with our top leg grabbers.

Which weights are much deeper?  Our #3’s at 60kg, 63kg, 87kg, 97kg are/were leg grabbers and I don’t think anyone would pick any of them to be near the top 3 at leg grabbing.  To that point, regarding your most recent two posts - I most certainly am not and I don’t think anyone is saying that “just” being an AA, or a NQ, or a D1 starter, or a D2 starter, means any of these guys are not good wrestlers.   But the fact of the matter is at least part of the reason many of them choose to go Greco is because they feel that gives them a better chance to make a team because the competition is tougher in leg grabbing.

No, because I never made any of the claims you are accusing me of making and in my post explicitly said I disagreed with those claims.
