LJB Posted July 19 Posted July 19 our guy Attao give up a quick 4 pts and then comes back to just beat the brakes off the undersized georgian... that kid wanted out midway through the first period but just had to take it until Attao scored enough points that they showed mercy... 13-4 Attao wrestled with an attitude and it was violent and brutal... Attao for bronze...

Nowry jumps front head immediately... lots of jazz hands... announcer saying MDA was "out limbed" against Koontz... i giggled... Nowry put down first... 1-0... Nowry defense on point back on the feet...... nowry keeps jumping front head and it appears to be wearing on MDA... Nowry goes arm spin and then tries to go behind and then reversed the spin and exposed but whistled with injury on MDA... somewhat surprised no points awarded... 1-0 at the break... MDA coming out aggressive to avoid par terre... pushing nowry all over the mat... nowry finally gets some control... ref motions for MDA... offers but white paddled... table then immediately offers blue and it is nowry who goes down second time... 2-0... mixed feelings about that as Nowry had definitely gained control... Nowry heists and then reachs back and stands up... the ref offers 2 for MDA which i did not even realize until the brick was tossed... praise odin challenge won because that would have been awful... still 2-0... 1:30 left... lots of action with MDA really pushing forward... Nowry goes arm spin but slip... high dive attempt from nowry here and there... jumps front head again and really trying to snap him down... nowry wants a bit to the finger and is showing it to evryone... come on bro... now medlin is throwing the brick to challenge a non bite call... really wanting that caution and 2... feels chincy but probably the only path to victory... no dice... 3-0 MDA 30 seconds left... that feels like it... nowry jumps front head and MDA finally ducks it and gets to the body lifts him and takes to the edge for a correct throw... 5-0 and that is the final... nowry really had nothing for Deleanu...

UZB hanging on the head... tries a drag but Koontz tying him up well... koontz down... 1-0 UZB... UZB two truns with a couple of nice low gut change of direction and koontz breaks the lock and stands up... 5-0... that is how it ends at the break after some mid paced pummeling from both... koontz holding his grouns well... MDA goes down... 5-1... this is the match... MDA circling right and left and never allowed koontz to get any kind of lock is his preferred cuban... well played... UZB in no danger... just staying tight and not giving up anything... silver for koontz... overall a really nice tourney from koontz... showed some real technique and has improved... can't be mad at that... 2

LJB Posted July 19 Posted July 19 130kg bronze- our goy Attao vs MAEENPAEAE out of FIN that had the craziest 4-1/2 minutes of big boy action with schultz earlier today... FIN coming hard and Attao sorta goes for an arm spin sorta bails on it immediately spins and FIN has him dancing all over the edge and then attempts head and arm that attao fights off and his trying to get his hips over the top but doesnt but still does not give up an escape and they back to their feet... again, the big boys going for it... Attao put down... FIN jumps out front and looks for a reverse lift sorta and Attao just stands up... 1-0 FIN... mostly just clinch work with no real attempts till the break... not much on the feet opening second... FIN put down... 1-1... attao jumps front head and gets nothing doing... defender allowed to fight hands on the front headlock and i hate when they go for it...whatever back on the feet and Attao pushing and FRIN snaps him to his face and gets the go behind for 3-1 lead... that feels final... yep... that is it...
LJB Posted July 19 Posted July 19 quick thoughts... russia just ran away with this tourney... of course they brought the biggest squad, but, still medaled in 9 of the 10 weights... that hasn't happened in a minute... Eqypt has a few really good young guys and one of the best coaches on the planet now... the most successful overall ranking series tourney the US ever has had... 2 medals and wrestled for 2 other... should have been 3 if otto had not just lost his damn mind, but, whatever... off the top of my head, since the ranking series has begun the US has only won 3 medals previously (this just me counting in my head... i might off one or two) and this year alone we earned 3 medals and wrestled 7(?) others... regardless of what the general US wrestling fan base and all the other anonymous forum nerds everywhere think, we are improving... as the eternal optimist, i am pleased overall...
