The only reason to keep him is that he hasn't gotten the program dropped. If they brought in a younger coach, it would be easier to cut. Just like I don't think they would have cut Cal Bap if Lenny Zalesky was still there. They brought in young Derek Moore and faced little serious resistance because he is young and inexperienced.

I get your point; however, Lenny was the HC at UC Davis when that program was dropped.

I heard from somebody that Michigan state only has three scholarships (which if they opted in, doesn't that mean everyone on roster has to be on scholarship.... so 10% scholarship for all). If that is so, they will never be able to compete.

I thought that the only Big Ten school that didn’t hand out all 9.9 scollies was Northwestern.

We have the group  Purdue , Indiana , Northwestern, Michigan State, Maryland. Wisconsin is trending this way if not careful. No calling anyone out, just looking at the trend in the conference most years, lately. Without landing an in state elite or two, and retaining your developed guys it is impossible to move in the conference most years. Contending with the hammer schools in the conference. I don’t really see how it will change. Coaching is one thing ,recruiting and retaining talent is totally different.

The Big Ten is brutal, no doubt. But you are throwing teams into that “bottom group” without really looking at results.

At NCAA’s Indiana finished ahead of Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, Wisconsin, Northwestern,Michigan State, Little Rock, West Virginia, Pitt, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, and Oregon State.

Feels like they’re climbing more than you want to admit.

No , I agree , I think Purdue the same. And they did finish ahead of the group of schools you mentioned. But some of those are just having a down year or so, they haven’t been bottom feeders like northwestern, MSU, maybe Maryland, So the jury is out, to see if upward trend continues, or is a bump in the road?

Maryland show a little life at NCAAs, at least their 197 did. Is he all they got?

Last 5 years NCAA finish:

MSU: 66, 58, 44, 40, 41

Northwestern: 66, 33, 50, 25, 6

Maryland: 33, 24, 36, 36, 48

One of these is not like the others

I don't know the coach, but he was assistant to Minkel to 18 years and the program stunk then too.  I remember one year they were in ABSOLUTE last place at NCAAs with NEGATIVE 1 points.  It was super surprising to me when Chandler was appointed head coach to replace Minkel.  What they needed to do was blow up the staff at that point and start fresh.  There is NO REASON any Big10 program isn't performing in wrestling.

It was 2015 when they actually scored minus a half team point (-0.5).  Someone mouthed off to the official during a match and hence the penalty.  That was an embarrassment which probably sent Minkel packing the next year.
