This year, they seem to be shunning PSU wrestlers in post match interviews. The only one I've seen is PJ Duke. Is this a coincidence or is ESPN / NCAA making a targeted attempt to avoid backlash from the overly preachy interviews a la Aaron Brooks' false prophet Muhammad comments? Or is there something else at play? I'm interested if anyone else has noticed and what your thoughts are.

Well they only had two guys wrestling that round and the other wrestler not interviewed lost his last match, seems normally selective. You got another steroid accusation coming with this, or what are you looking for?

What I noticed was Angelo’s interview after Sinclair “He’s really good. But you know, I’m tougher, you know. No matter what I’m pushing through”. I guess that’s the case until he lost.

Re: Penn State…thats a good observation regarding Brooks’ comments (and ESPN being owned by woke Disney). Or Carl told all his guys to not interview and stay focused.

I'm talking about the entire tournament. I haven't seen any PSU post match interviews. What is the deal?

Barr and Welsh did post-Semi’s interviews. Watching on YouTube (flo’s channel) now.

the wrestlers don't seem to get much media training ... the most interesting interview in recent memory was after B1G's when MM said he was never more unhappy than after he achieved all his goals. That part seemed really from the heart, and then he preached.

I would guess the coach told the team and the media to wait until Saturday. That’s probably the “deal”, as evidenced by an athlete talking today.

Oh did they? I haven’t watched the main broadcast all weekend until this morning, just Matcast.

Maybe I just missed the PSU interviews then somehow. My stream has been absolutely god awful with errors and having to refresh or change between TV, phone, and laptop to get them to work.

Many in the sport would benefit from media training.

Some may have concluded that there were too many immediate post match interviews at B1G's wtih a competition to credit divine powers/inspiration for the win.    God sent a memo disclaiming interest in outcome of collegiate wrestling tournaments or related divine "glory"?  Might be more into dual meet matches, also my favorite!

I’d forgotten they even did them at all on Friday, remembered it as a Saturday only thing but I know that’s wrong. Sorry

I just want to hear more breakdowns regarding high level wrestling. These guys are at the top of the sport, have immense wrestling knowledge, and instead choose to throw out a generic "God is good" interview. Nothing better than watching high level athletes break down their athletic performance / game plan / analysis. Listening to Tom Brady or Tony Romo break down football is incredible. Let's get that for wrestling!!!

In all fairness, who wants to be interviewed by Quint anyway?

Good point. He stumbles, is awkward, etc. I did get a chuckle in McEnelly's interview where he commented on Angelo... "he just sits on his knee and does nothing, how do you wrestle against that?". McEnelly just goes "should be stalling, right??

Quints interviews are meaningless. He’s a **** with zero genuine interest in college wrestling. The best interviews are those by USA wrestling and alike. Wrestlers being asked pertinent questions by knowledgeable wrestling journalists really compliment the event nicely.

He knows a bit about the sport and has been doing it long enough. It's just that he's catching guys immediately after their match. Timing is everything.

Did he really say that?  Angelo was the aggressor of the two…

it’s just my personal opinion of the guy. He did a nice job taking the viewers through the back room tour and did a good job explaining stuff on the fly but from watching him over the years at ncaas I find him to be phoney as a $3 bill.

you're very kind, and maybe rightfully so.  for me, the word 'hubris' comes to mind when i want the wrestler being interviewed to toss him for '5' (freestyle - at least, in the not so distant past).

All the PSU finalists did interviews on Friday after the semis. Van Ness comes across well in front of the camera; Messenbrink brings unique charisma. Mendez speaks well and with humility for someone chasing down a third title and possible Hodge. More generally, I've really enjoyed watching interviews with the 'young guys' (e.g., Vega, Davino, Forrester, etc.). It seems like many of them have grown up in the video/content culture, and they come across as mature and well-spoken. Brock Hardy also brings great perspective. These young men are representing the sport well.

Kerkvliet mixed it up at Big Ten's one year and hit us with a "none of this matters and we are all gonna die some day"

Considering all the God references in interviews - Greg's was the most honest. God doesn't care who wins NCAA's.

Could be wrong, but IIRC, part of his “none of this matters” thing was saying that wrestling doesn’t matter, but God does
