I’m concerned about his Shoulder. Barzegar after his match with Ramazanov was saying what happened to his Shoulder was intentional. I don’t know myself but I guess Barzegar knows a thing or two about wrestling.

They were not happy with Pirdayeh's performance after Asian juniors so they held a mini trial at 65 between him and 3 other wrestlers. This Tat guy won it. That's all I know about him. He hasn't been on any teams previously. As for Khateri, he is only on the team because the 61 at asian champs came fifth. I guess they think he can do better or just want to give someone else a chance. They sent Khateri to a junior tournament in Armenia a few months ago and he didn't do well so I wouldn't expect much.

Yeah. Even though I’ve got a lot of issues with Dabir, I gotta admit he’s done some good for wrestling - even if it’s mostly for his own political gain. I mean, he could’ve easily gotten just as much funding (or more) from the regime and done nothing useful at all. Take Arash Miresmaeili, for example - he’s politically aligned with Dabir, but we all know how he’s pretty much wrecked judo. But honestly, do you think countries like Armenia, Japan, or Russia are actually gonna pay us to compete? I doubt it. Football’s a whole different beast. The thing is, wrestling doesn’t even have the revenue potential that the MMA world does, because people - especially in wealthy countries - just don’t have the patience to watch two guys pushing each other around the mat for six minutes. That’s not Dabir’s fault though. To really make money off wrestling, the whole UWW’s policies and wrestling rules have gotta change.
-
For the record I'm absolutely against Dabir and his political agenda. I also believe that some aspects of his leadership have been a net positive for Iranian wrestling. Both things can be true at the same time. However, I also agree with you that this is probably not the right place for politics especially Iranian given the recent couple of years. My personal opinion is that Dabir uses wrestling as a way for him to establish political legitimacy within the regime and by extension gain more soft power within Iran's sporting bodies. However, generating income through such partnerships with other countries is not a bad idea at all. For example if Armenia wants to pay us money to train with them we should definitely take that up same with Japan, Russia etc. In football, the top countries demand money to play friendly matches why can't we do the same thing?

For sure I'm just saying that for Yazdani the only thing that matters is an olympic and world title. Beating Tazhudinov in Asians and then losing to him at worlds and olympics is meaningless. Tazhudinov is entering his prime whilst Yazdani is slowly entering out of it so by the time they meet I'm worried it might end up a mauling by Tazhudinov.
-
Yeah, you might be right. Honestly, I can only really see Dabir’s moves through a political lens - but I’m not gonna get into that here, ‘cause I don’t want this thread going off-topic. You don’t wanna see Hasan vs. Sadulaev? If that match goes down, it’s gonna be way more exciting than just winning a title, don’t you think?
-
With his shoulder I’m happier seeing him wrestling Tazhudinov than Sadulaev till he has settled as I think it will be more technical and less physical with Tazhudinov. I’m also ok with him starting at the shallow rather than the deep end. Some ranking events etc will be good preparation.

Some ball are held for charity and some for fancy dress, but when they're held for pleasure they're the balls that I like best. -
Its interesting that apart from the one off matches against Snyder and Tazhudinov, the only other guys who have been able to nearly beat him have been our own (Goleij and Ghasempour). With all due respect to both guys Yazdani is a class above them both so you would expect Yazdani being capable to beat Sadulaev. From now on his team should be analysing and developing game plans on how to beat the top guys at 97kg and preparing him for when he steps back onto the mat. I know that Mohammadian is now a coach so maybe him and Reza Yazdani can work alongside him to prep for the transition to 97kg. The only thing that matters to Iranians is world and olympic medals and Asia is pretty shallow at the heavier weight classes even if you are Russian transfers. But its possible the first Yazdani vs Tazhudinov match up will happen at Asians in 2026/2027.

This is really strange tbh. However it sort of tracks with what they've been doing in recent years. It seems that they are trying to establish soft power within the wrestling world by inviting other countries' wrestling teams to Iran and sending their own guys there as well. From memory Tajikistan, Hungary and Armenia have brought their wrestling teams to train in Iran with our senior guys. I reckon they must have received some sort of benefits to send these guys there either financially or politically. Dabir was talking about making the wrestling federation self funded and developing revenue streams so I imagine this might be a part of that either directly or indirectly.
-
Yeah I think the US guys' biggest problem is translating their style to international wrestling initially but I think that's largely being overcome with FS being more integrated into US wrestling from an earlier age. Also the new gen of coaches like J'den Cox are going to be passing on their knowledge as well so I don't think its going to be a major problem by the 2028 olympics as you said but I think you guys will still be a force this year too. When it comes to Iran light weights they are incredibly inconsistent one tournament they look unbeatable and another one they look like its their first time wrestling on the mat. Ahmad Javan is quite young and I think he has potential to be a medal threat at 61kg but that largely hinges upon him not being leg laced back to Iran every time he gets taken down. Considering he isn't Mazani as well I'm curious to see his performance. His province Khorasan Razavi has been doing quite well in the lighter weight classes at junior levels domestically so it would be nice to see their hard work bring home a world medal.
-
Yes I agree - it’s going to be difficult to get a world medal for him but I guess he is going to give it his best shot and there may be surprises if he does manage to reinvent himself and adapt his style. I worry about him wrestling Sadulaev as our wrestlers have had injuries after wrestling him( I think Goliej knee got hurt badly? and it was rough for Ghassempour too I think). I see him winning ranking events and medal at Asian championship though relatively readily so he has things that he may reasonably be expected to achieve.

the stretch from Richmond to Philly is pretty much a haze of traffic anxiety. IDK why and it seems silly but i normally feel home free once i get to jersey. As far as 18 wheelers go, I was on i81 a lot and holy hell it feels like its exclusively 18 wheelers blocking traffic. Made me realize the worst road is a 4 lane road. i95 is generally wider so you can get around idiots, there are only so many mistakes someone can make on a 2 lane road, but 4 lane roads always have some.....tard going 40 in left lane while you get killed killed by a tard on meth doing 200 in the right lane. -

Used to drive up 95 to NJ from Virginia /NC pretty often and the long stretch in Delaware and NJ turnpike from the start of the turnpike to the Newark airport area dragged every time , you have like 20 miles in between exits when you first get on , you reach NJ and think it’s almost over but no 2 more hrs on the turnpike with State troopers and 18 wheelers everywhere -

not my experience, i don't know if its the gotham city scenery, or the fact that i like going to NYC but it never drags. CT and MD always seem to drag. -
http://iawf.ir/?th=contentdetail&PageCode=81751 Look at these two pics - in both of them, first and second/third place are Iranians, and the other spot is a guy from either Romania (the host country) or somewhere else, I’m not sure Now, if I were the head of Iran’s wrestling federation, the only way I’d send my wrestlers to a tournament like this is if Romania was paying me a fat stack of cash… or if the wrestling trip was just a cover for sending over something else. I’m not trying to sound like some conspiracy nut, but seriously - how else are you supposed to look at this? And Romania’s already kinda known as the Islamic Republic’s backyard. Remember that judge they dragged over from France to Romania, and then he just “fell” out of his hotel window? And I have no idea how the federation had the guts to post the following picture. This is straight-up a meme. I'm guessing that’s Abolfazl Mohmadi, right? The federation’s own post says he got silver - and yeah, you can see the silver medal on him - so why the heck is he standing on the gold podium? Where’s the guy who actually won? This picture is a meme all by itself.

I never realized just how small NJ was until I moved away, but if you drive the nj turnpike top to bottom it seems like it takes 5 hours -

i thought of new jersey as bigger for some odd reason, maybe cause MD is shaped like it was jerrymandered. Once I thought of driving through the states i realized MD seems endless and NJ is sort of a breeze, unless you get stuck in traffic....not impossible. -
