Session 6 - Championship Finals Saturday March 23 2024
wrestle87 replied to PortaJohn's topic in College Wrestling
This is definitely the most lopsided NCAA's I have ever watched, and the most anticlimactic series of finals I have seen in a very very long time. What an ass whooping. The thing that made me happiest all night was Vito, even though J Smith and/or ESPN clearly paid every ref a ton of money to try to get Fix a championship. -
They Are Drinking The Kool Aid on HVI

172.5...at least recently, shorting Penn State is like shorting father time. -
I think it's an important differentiation, Wolak is transferring as a GRAD transfer.
-
I was referring to making sizable package purchases on the transfer market.

Ragusin is ready to throw down with C scott and Smith, and the Ghostbusters monster that is the former 2x 174 pound ncaa champ. Love it. "Gonna whine like little bitches in the corner the whole match..." Dylan Ragusin...my man. Pictured below: C Scott and J Smith C Perry walking into the wrestling room....

Oooooooh, lol my bad. It just made too much sense considering they JUST did that with franek and caliendo.

F*ck the hawks if they do that. Bailey and Little are gods in Little Rick right now. I hope they give the iowa city crew the "bird" (hehe, yes I love that pun).

Yeah, you're right, really what should have happened is the ref should have blown it dead as soon as mekhi's foot hit pendleton. I think one of the real brutal parts of it is the adrenaline dump it put Pasiuk through. There's a major performance difference between the thrill of getting the pin called and celebrating vs having it blown dead as it goes out of bounds.

My score guesses at the end of each period: 125: 1st: 0-0. 2nd: 1-0 Fig. 3rd 4-2 fig, with ayala getting an escape and last minute takedown and fig securing a riding time point Key takeaway, Fig is a problem on top in close matches, and is very skilled at leveraging riding time in low scoring matches. 133: 1st: 6-1 Vito. 2nd: 9-3 Vito. 3rd: 13-6 or 16-3 Vito Key takeaway: We haven't seen this type of Vito before, maybe ever. Vito just big brothered a wrestler he couldn't touch two weeks ago. Massive evolution for Vito. Fix hasn't evolved at all since coming to college, he's probably regressed. 141: 1st: 0-0: 2nd: 1-0 somebody. 3rd: 1-1. OT: 4-1 Bartlett Takeaway: I'm looking forward to 149. 149: 1st: 6-2 Gomez. 2nd: 7-7 Gomez. He forgets that going upper body actually gets him in trouble. 3rd: 13-9 Gomez. Takeaway: Austin Gomez is a far more dangerous wrestler when attacking below the knee than when he is attacking above the hips. 157: 1st: 0-0 2nd: 3-1 Teemer. 3rd: 4-4. OT: 7-4 Haines Takeaway: Haines has many extra gears when his back is against the wall. Nobody brings that out better than Andonian, but I think Teemer can pretty well. 165: 1st: 6-2 Carr. 2nd: 9-4 Carr. 3rd: 11-10 Carr Takeaway: Mesenbrink gas falls just a bit short of Carr excellence 174: 1st: 6-1 Starrocci. 2nd: 9-2 Starrocci. 3rd: 13-2 Starocci. Takeaway: Starocci has had some sort of Vito transformation. He's been whooping up on the field like he hasn't done maybe ever before. 184: 1st: 6-1 Keckeisin with lots of blood time. 2nd. 12-3 Keckeisen. 3rd: 13-4 Keckeisin. Takeaway: Outmatched. Plott gets the beating he deserves for attacking a wrestlers knee unpunished in the quarters. 197: 1st: 3-1 Brooks. 2nd: 9-3 Brooks. 3rd: 15-5 Brooks. Takeaway: Brooks wilts Hidlay like he never has before. Brooks has the frame, strength, speed, stamina, and toughness to really pour it on. I think he does that in style. 285: 1st: 3-1 Kerk. 2nd: 7-1 Kerk. 3rd: 8-5 Kerk. Takeaway: Kerk is the elite wrestler of the field, but has no killer instinct. People used to talk about lee kemp being unbelievable, but always wrestling super tight. Joe Williams from Iowa was the same way. His headspace got in the way of his immense potential. Kerk gets it done, but does so by running in the 3rd period from an outmatched but game Davison.

The only answer here is Pasiuk. That was so egregious. That was the definition of "adults" getting in the way when something amazing happens. Lewis had mailed it in, and Pasiuk was rolling. That rule also needs to be changed. The rule made sense 20 years ago when most wrestlers were angry and inflexible, but that has changed. Every dude in a D1 singlet come NCAA's can do a full split. Wrestling mats for conferences and certainly the NCAA tournament need to be bigger for the now very plebeian defense of "do a split" defense. The "oh no my foot's off the mat" defense is so commonplace that O'Toole got hit for stalling for extending his split a bit further to get off the mat. That to me, is a broken rule. The "off the mat" rule is meant to protect wrestlers from injury, but if it is so available for manipulation that a ref views your foot LEAVING THE COMPETITION AREA as strategy, that needs to be fixed. Make bigger mats. Or, do what jiujitsu does and return to the center in the same position you went out of bounds in. That would be amazing. Would totally defang the OB line. "You got yourself into this position, go ahead and get yourself out of it".

Any real hawk would phrase things in such a way that only fellow hawks would understand the grammar and overall syntax of the communication. Hawks speak hawk, not plebeian english like the rest of us mere mortals.

Mizzou, something happened around the time they wrestled Cornell out east, and it just broke all of them.

I think it’s kind of like looking at derivations 1.0 vs 3.0, gable was the original monolithic coach, jrob and j smith tried but failed to emulate it, sanderson did his own thing and has created one of the most dominant sports dynasties ever.

I forgot to add, Dustin Plott is also an absolute p.o.s. Got his first takedown against truax by attacking his knee, ended the match with an illegal move that refs are just magically blind to -
