I don't remember Cael ever complaining about the Justice Dept after Ed or Andrew got in trouble though. Thats the issue. Tom isnt accepting responsibility for his athletes, hes pushing blame elsewhere. maybe im wrong, but i dont think i am
-
Nelson Brands was involved too. His excuse was he missed the meeting where they went over the severity of the punishments if caught
-
They COULD change him from face to heel, yes. However, if you're awkward getting people to like you you're going to come off as fake (more fake than usual) as a heel. For referece, this is waht they did with Angle. He came out and was boo'd his first time so they flipped him to a heel. Slowly he got over becuase he was extremely charismatic. Heel or face, Gable just isnt charismatic. That isnt a dig on him either. It just is what it is.
-
I think when they signed him they thought they had another Kurt Angle. But there will only ever be one. There are a few guys on their roster now that had outstanding careers on a mat, Chas Betts (Chad Gable) and Jacob Kasper (Julius Creed) are the fist two that come to mind. Both charismatic and extremely talented in the ring.

Putting guys over means making them look strong. You're helping them "get over" with the crowd. You don't have to lose to put someone over. You can win and still make them look strong. I doubt that's the issue. From what I've seen of him in the ring (the few times he's been in) he isn't unsafe either. Maybe splitting his time between the OTC and WWE developmental caught up with him and he fell back training wise. However, two years is a long time to train at their training center and not progress. It also could be the fact he has the sexual assault allegations, although there are plenty of people who still work there who have done worse. Their chairman, for instance, Vince McMahon. So I doubt that's the reason either. I really, truly believe that he has 0 charisma and that's the issue. You say you can teach someone to talk on a mic, but either you're capable of talking or not. Either you're awkward or you're not. I've seen plenty of guys on the indie circuit be advertised as the next big thing but when put on the spot, with a mic, they crack.

Destin was a 5x state champ and 6x finalist. Went to Nebraska then transferred to Un-Kearney. Was a 3x AA, 2x national finalist and 1x national champ. I'd hardly say that isn't fairing well after high school.

On the weekend I moonlight as a pro wrestler. I travel the country with my little brother as my tag partner. I can tell you first hand the bumps hurt. But you do get used to them after time. We excelled early on because we both came from this same wrestling background. Of course neither of us were D1 athletes so id imagine they thought Gable would take to it like a boat on water too. Heck, they had just invested in Jacob Kasper from Duke and it paid off. Why wouldnt Gable be an even bigger star? I honestly think he just didnt progress like they all thought he would. After a while he had been forgotten, but WWE fans AND "shoot" wrestling fans as well. Putting him in the WTT got them headlines. I think that was their only goal. I do know their contracts are extremely specific. I don't think he'd be able to return to ncaa's or usaw just becuase he wants to. They have too much money invested in him.

Hes ranked 13th at 125 on Flo

By all the accounts I've heard, he wasn't progressing at the pace they thought he would in ring. Then added on top of that he lacks charisma on the mic. They thought they had the next Kurt Angle when they signed him but didnt. I think world team trials was more of a publicity stunt. I doubt he was ever going to compete in Worlds.

Don't work yourself into a shoot.

Desselle will be a great addition there. Heavily recruited in the SoCon but I think he made the right choice. Give him a couple years in that room and he'll be on the podium in March.

Wrestled at small college in MidTN. That post of the pins spiking in 2006 make a ton of sense. That was my first year in college and can tell you just how many lights are on each of the ceilings of the gyms around here. I wasn't good.

This is all so confusing. Is Gable returning or not?
-
I didnt say that. I asked someone to make sense of him going DOWN in the rankings when he dropped weight. That's it. Make that make sense.
-
So Palmer wins the Clarion Open at a weight lower than what he was previously ranked at. Beating Blaze who won over Ramos. I know there was no head to head matchup between the two but... New rankings come out and he's ranked LOWER than he was at the higher weight. Someone make that make any sense at all.

He's projected 149

Landon Desselle, Fargo AA, Beast of the East AA, Knockout AA commited to Ohio State last week.

Rising HS Seniors NOT highly ranked to keep an eye on...
TNwrestling replied to TNwrestling's topic in High School Wrestling
I'll throw a Tennessee kid's name out there to bump this thread Landon Desselle just committed to Ohio State. Fargo AA and Beast of the East AA as well. Tore his acl last year and medaled in Beast and Knockout xmas classic on one leg. Not wrestling at all during the offseason while rehabbing that injury kept him off these rankings. Hopefully we see him back to full form soon. -
No other state seeds like this. My suggestion of zoom was only for the coaches who wouldn't make it in person. There's absolutely no good reason why this tournament cannot be seeded the same as any other tournament during the year.
-
Idk how much stock there is in rumors anymore but the inside-ish story I heard is he's going to have extensive rehab just to be able to walk again.
-
I'd love to see Boykin down to 197 but I'm not sure he's really concerned on cracking the lineup.

The way Tennessee seeds the state tournament is awful.. In order to be seeded you HAVE to have medaled at the state tournament previously AND win the district, then regional tournament. You could be a 3x state champ, lose in the region finals, and be thrown randomly into the bracket. No other criteria. The highest medals finishers get the higher seeds. If there's two state champions in a bracket whoever won the title at the higher weight class gets the higher seed. Then the rest of the bracket is drawn out by regional finishes. 1v4 and 2v3. Now, while I admit I do enjoy having the brackets drop the day after the regional tournaments are finished, I wish they'd just sit down and seed these things out. With the new technology out there (zoom, skype etc) every coach could be present for the seeding meeting. But TN sucks and wont change. So yeah.

Tennessee uses this format as well.
