  1. Initially there seemed to be a generic Title 9/Proportionality explanation for Notre Dame dropping the program, although the athletes and coaches initially seemed blindsided by the move: https://archives.nd.edu/observer/1992-04-13_v24_130.pdf (see pages 20, 17, 18)
  2. Of note, Cal Bakersfield, while having great tradition, has never had good funding, and back during its Div. 2 days, was known for doing big things with very little: "Such budget-consciousness has helped Gonzales fit right in at Cal State Bakersfield, a small (enrollment: 2,359) commuter school with little money for athletics. [Joe]Seay, 42, a former national 149.5-pound champ from Wellington, Kans., started the school's wrestling program in 1972 with such limited funds that his team had to train in a science lab and his wife had to do all the wrestlers' laundry. Even now the school lacks a weight room and has a pitifully tiny wrestling room and so few wrestling scholarships that Seay, an exceptional coach, has to recruit athletes impoverished enough to qualify for general scholarships, which is what Gonzales had. "The school thinks they could throw us out onto the grass and we'd still win," says 158-pound senior Perry Shea, who's one of the four Division II champions on this year's team. "They're probably right." https://vault.si.com/vault/1982/05/03/gonzo-man-on-the-go
  3. Old programs brought back: 1. Washington 2. Oregon 3. LSU 4. Syracuse 5. Eastern Michigan 6. Notre Dame 7. Cal Berkeley 8. BYU 9. UCLA New program: 10. USC
  4. With duals wrapping up, I think most teams are focusing on getting everyone healthy for conferences and nationals. Too bad we missed what could have been some great matchups.
  5. At this point, he's not listed on the roster, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
  6. I don't know for sure, but this would probably be his last window, as it's his sixth year of collegiate wrestling. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/10206852-all-american-jake-woodley-enters-transfer-portal
  7. Is this his full name? https://mcommunity.umich.edu/person/jwoodley
  8. It's been a while since Parris wrestled Cassioppi, and the latter is not the same wrestlers he was before. I think he'll probably be able to keep it to a regular decision. Talent-wise, Warner will probably win at 197, although his motivation is suspect. I have no idea whether Mattin, Lamer, or Amine will be ready for this meet.
  9. Sounds comparable to Carr, Kolat, Mocco, or Steveson by beating wrestlers at the next level at such a young age. It will be very cool to see his development as he comes up the pike.
  10. It was 15-6 Gomez within the last minute, but then Lamer started coming on strong in the last 45 seconds (go to 18:20 for the full match):
  11. The only real thing that stood out was that it was in a big stadium with a few pyrotechnics. From the camera, the stadium seemed mostly empty. Hardell Moore and Austin Sommer did a nice job of announcing and commentating. The scoring displays were awful - even worse than Big 10+ and Flo.
  12. The Wisconsin dual on 1/15. He lost 17-10 to Gomez, but had him tired at the end.
  13. Stinks that some guys were hurt. At 165, of all the people they could have used, why in the world did they insert Consulelos? A wrestler who will probably never win a collegiate match, and is basically window dressing for the program. OK to use in a dual against a lesser program with sufficient talent, but not in a match against a school like Oklahoma State and a ranked opponent.
  14. I believe he's injured, although I don't know the extent.
  15. Lewan wins in OT. Ohio State up 14-3 at intermission.
  16. OSU up 9-0, nice job of getting the close wins.
  17. So far great action by both teams
  18. Did it appear at all intentional? Bricks are usually thrown in the middle of commotion.
  19. Tough riding by RBY.
  20. Medley looking good.
  21. Saldate picks up his second win over an AA this weekend.
  22. Maybe different result if Schultz in lineup.
  23. Final: Michigan 27 - Wisconsin 6
