Generally speaking, if someone wants to be the best in the world, they need to take a path other people might not normally take. But of course nobody is obligated to attempt to reach that level.
This is not about resumes but about current level of performance IMO:
1- Zahid
2- Snyder
3- Hidlay
4- Haines
5- Woods
Other strong competitors out there include Carr and Dake.
Wonderful performance—and he’s from a country that is not a traditional freestyle power.
Does anyone have any background info on him? (How he got into freestyle, who his coach is, who he trains with, etc.)
IMO it’s not about being in a hurry or not. It’s about continuing to develop or not.
Based on what little I know, it seems like a top-five-in-the-world talent would benefit more from training with other elite wrestlers rather than high schoolers.
How do we feel about Team USA’s performance so far?
Spencer: 1-1 (eliminated)
Jax: 3-2 (5th)
Real: 1-1 (still hope for a bronze)
Duke: 1-1 (11th)
Carr: 3-1 (going for bronze vs Sidakov)
Haines: In the finals
Zahid: Champ
Hidlay: In the finals
Snyder: In the finals
Wyatt: 0-1 (17th)
Spencer needs to study Buddhism. Then he will learn to transcend his ego. He will not need victories, or happiness, or comforts. He will equally be above pain and concern for his reputation. He will just be.
Does anyone know what Forrest plans to do this year? I can’t imagine being as good as he is, so my opinion means nothing, but it somehow feels pointless for him to compete against high schoolers.
As for Duke, does anyone know if he’s greyshirting, redshirting, etc?
In general — and as applied to any college sports team — if a team policy, school policy, or law is broken, and there is evidence presented to the coaches of that, I would hope appropriate action would be taken.
The reason he might consider greyshirting is schoolwork. Getting into peak condition for mid to late September. Traveling to Europe. I assume a camp in Europe to acclimate himself. Competing. Coming back. How much would he really be able to study? If he’s on the world team now, he may decide to treat it as his full time job now.
Worlds are in mid to late September. That has to make starting college tough. Maybe he’ll consider a greyshirt. Seems like he’ll be pursuing freestyle anyway.
I thought it was all just the Senior National Team, whether they competed at worlds or not. Now I see that there is a different name for the group that competes.
The top three at each weight are part of the Senior National Team and receive money to train for worlds. That’s why there were true third place matches. The more you know
If we’re talking the word team as in top three placers, PSU has reps at 57, 65, 70, 74, 79, 86, and 92. And that’s not counting Dake and Snyder. Seems good to me.
