Sure - I guess in trying to succeed many factors come into play- athleticism of the individual, mastery of the techniques , speed of thinking , the rules of the game and application of physical forces within some set of rules that may give some strategies an inherent advantage within a given set of rules… I myself could work out the implications for different styles of wrestling of the rule changes that you have posted.. I guess the crux of it is how it will be applied by the referees . As things stand it seems a bit opaque.

In terms of physics if you are being pushed backwards by a stronger opponent- the alternative to going backwards towards the edge- by offering a lot of on the spot forward resistance and not going backwards, is being taken to the ground?

I guess sometimes the talks preceding to an arrangement lead to an arrangement and sometimes for many reasons they don't. The impression I get is that there were talks but due to unknown reasons ( I get the impression that Sadullaev for whatever reason perhaps was not up for it?) they failed. Of course there is nothing to say that the mere facts of there being some talks then the they can not be used for publicity purposes. Now that can of course can be considered BS- but that will be a matter of judgment in the eyes of the beholder....

Yes I would believe that their match were low scoring.. they don’t seem to like feet to back moves or throws. in terms of last second losses they could just be statistical — I mean some matches are lost early some somewhere in the middle and some in last seconds… would I be right in saying the most famous one would be Steveson V Petriashvilli? …I mean that win made Steveson the superstar of wrestling that he never became…

Are you sure they did not send Hassan Yazdani in disguise to act like he was Goleij? (Iranians are crafty like that)… I mean whoever it was in that clip was god forbid doing actual wrestling moves…

Whats the scores between Azarpira and Goleij been like? I dont recall any memorable matches between them but Goleij and to a lesser degree Azarpira are not known for having memorable matches.... Goleij over the years has had some very close matches with Sadulaev and Snyder so may be already Yazdani is not that far from the top tier?

Looks like he beats Goleij 5-0. Two shot clock points though

He won 23 in Serbia for Serbia. Inexplicably never seemed to achieve the same heights for Serbia outside Serbia. Must have been all that wholesome fresh air of the Serbian motherland. I believe Serbian fresh air weighs practically very little but is highly nutritious and energetic and wholesome only to the true sons of mother Serbia.

He struggled against physically stronger opponents even at 79- say Burroughs or Usmanov if my memory is correct. But I agree his ideal weight seems to be 79. I fear he may not be able to replicate the relative success that he has had in 79 at 86 where his key rivals at that weight such as Valencia Kadiev Ghassempour and possibly Rahmani are not only going to be comparatively technical but at this time undoubtedly stronger. So there are risks for him professionally in going up but I guess we are talking possibility of glory at the Olympics which is a motivational factor for him taking a risk.

That’s also sort of my point. The current best guy is having to cut to get to the weight seems to have the natural size advantage over Dake and no doubt as things stand over Nokhodi. Kadiev seemed to be too strong for Nokhodi also. Nokhodi will have his work cut out for him if he wishes to go to 86 but it may add a bit of depth for Iran at this weight…

Taz I believe has a fondness for a special Iranian restaurant in Bahrain that serve Kobideh with rice with extra butter . Sadly this was not available during his visit in the USA. I believe the restaurant wanted to open a Branch in the USA but this was shut down after a raid by ICE agents. I believe that contributed to keeping Taz lean and mean in his latest excursion to the American continent. One thing that the media has not touched upon was that he did have a decent feast though with Aaron Brooks muslim convert brother, Muzzaffar.

Do you think Nokhodi has the frame for 86kg? he seems small to me. The move to 86 did not work out great for Savadkohi.. and perhaps Kyle Dake…

Yes Yazdanis return still has many uncertain aspects 15 months on- It’s telling that yesterday despite some hype about him wrestling Golij -it was Bazri that wrestled Goliej instead. Hemmat Moslemi in no uncertain terms said it was not to Yasdani’s benefit if he wrestles. If he wants to make a come back and prove he is still a force to be reckoned with he has to start somewhere but I guess starting in a high level match in a pressure cooker atmosphere with the arena packed with spectators would have been too risky with many folks not easy with it and the match was dropped unceremoniously. But he has to start somewhere if he wants to make a comeback though…

Younes Emami is 28 and been competing at very high level for a few years. He has been consistent at the level of being 3rd to 10th in the weight year on year. We may want someone who is consistent at 1st to 5th year on year but Iran doesn’t have one at 74 at that level. Each year he has about10-15% chance of medalling and he could have another 3-4 years perhaps a bit longer at that level given his consistent performance at his level. At least he keeps Iran in it in a very deep weight.

Amouzad was on fire in this last Islamic Solidarity Games… the final match he was uncontainable. I don’t see many folks beating him in the next little while unless he has an injury or something

It just keeps getting weirder with Steveson

They go to hell. Completely screwed - eternal burning , demons for company and such like. Not to mention sulphur laden toxic air.

Dick sounded like a tortured soul. Hope he rests in peace free of his mortal shackles.
