  1. The Iranian wrestling commentators always say that you have to give due respect to whoever represents the USA as they will be good regardless and I think it applies to Hendrickson too. He may be even number 2 or 1 etc internationally but he is untested at that level and hopefully his future results will speak for his abilities and put my questioning things to rest in an emphatic way. I’m sure time will tell.
  2. Also - U23… lol
  3. Ah yes that’s the year the Iranians did not get a visa for Albania. Attenuated
  4. Something seems off with all this hyping up of Hendrickson on the Iranian wrestling thread at the intuitive level. The logical part of my brain is asking if he that good why he is not getting his own thread on the main international thread where all the homerism can run rampant for a wrestler who as yet has no international credentials to speak of (though I guess he is likely to have done well in an attenuated competition like the pan am).
  5. They say because of his shoulder surgery he is advised by his medical team not to cut weight. I get this as if he develops a more muscular build the additional strength afforded by stronger rotator cuff muscles will offer additional stability. In any case apparently he is now about 100kg. The counter argument is that whilst his shoulder will be more stable with more muscular support at 97 kg - his opponents will be also be much stronger and will subject his shoulder to greater stress. I mean Ghassempour found out that Kyle Snyder is in a different class from strength point of view a couple of times that they wrestled. I think there will be some mileage if they got Reza Yazdani to help him build up to that weight as he was a smaller more muscular build and he might have some tricks to pass on. Who knows what might happen- he may pull of a great comeback or things may end up disappointing. I guess the Iranian wrestling establishment are just letting him rehabilitate and see how things pan out ….
  6. I think team USA has two amazing stars this year- Wyatt Hendrickson and Zahid Valencia. They will achieve the greatest of the greatest feats in wrestling. They are unquestionably unique and unparalleled. The likes of their talents has never been seen… Anything I missed out there?
  7. I think you are kidding right about Hendrickson- he must undisputedly be world number one at 125kg freestyle. I would not accept anything less than number 1 !
  8. Shame for Masoumi to have to wait for 3 years though. Hopefully we see him in Olympic qualifying and other tournaments in the meantime
  9. Shame he did not sign up for Israel - he not only would have annoyed the regime supporters more but also would had the added bonus of guaranteed winning over Zare in future encounters.
  10. I think there are 2 definitions of impossible. Mathematical and practical. I agree if we took the mathematical definition ( ie a non zero chance) then I would agree it is not impossible.
  11. He would have to face at least Azarpira domestically en route to the international arena. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see him do it as I am a fan but avoiding wishful thinking and being realistic I think the odds are heavily weighted against him.
  12. I would translate incredible as impossible given the presence of folks like Sadulaev Tazhudinov Azarpira and Snyder together with a highly suspect shoulder-and not to mention Father Time.
  13. I suspect it comes from the philosophy that is drilled into them from a young age that it’s best to let your wrestling do the talking on the mat rather than talk a lot off the mat. It probably is ok for wrestling but perhaps less so for mma etc where hyping things up is conducive to the excitement around match and financial benefits.
  14. 60 million years ago the dinosaurs went extinct and here we are now because rodent like mammals survived then thrived then evolved.
  15. I think he is agreeing with you - saying it’s an ad ‘hominem fallacy’ in logic textbooks ,but a ‘circumantial attack’ - ie attack against who is saying something rather than what is being said
  16. Whilst I am not religious and actually don’t wish to defend any sort of faith it’s worth mentioning that Muslims do revere Jesus as a prophet and consider him the Messiah coming back in the day of judgement. You won’t find religious Muslim disparaging Jesus. There is a good summary from ChatGPT In Islam, Jesus (known as *'Isa* in Arabic) is highly revered as one of the greatest prophets, but not considered divine. Here's a summary of the general Muslim beliefs about Jesus: *Core Beliefs:* 1. *Prophet, Not God*: Muslims believe Jesus was a *mighty prophet and messenger of God*, not the son of God or divine. 2. ****I have a limited vocabulary*** Birth*: Like Christianity, Islam teaches that Jesus was born miraculously to *Mary (Maryam)*, a ***I have a limited vocabulary***, by the will of God. 3. *No Crucifixion*: The *majority Muslim belief* is that *Jesus was not crucified*. Instead, it appeared so to people, and *God raised him to heaven*. This is based on the Qur'an (Surah An-Nisa 4:157-158). 4. *Miracles*: Jesus performed many *miracles* by God’s permission, such as healing the blind and lepers and bringing the dead to life. 5. *Not the Son of God*: Islam strictly emphasizes *monotheism (Tawhid)* and rejects the idea of the Trinity or divine sonship. 6. *Second Coming*: Muslims believe that Jesus will *return before the Day of Judgment* to restore justice and defeat the false messiah (al-Dajjal). 7. *Scripture*: Jesus was given a divine book called the *Injil* (Gospel), which Muslims believe has been altered over time. *Respect and Titles*: Jesus is referred to as *'Isa ibn Maryam (Jesus, son of Mary)*, *al-Masih (the Messiah)*, *Ruh Allah (Spirit from God)*, and *Kalimatullah (Word of God)* — all emphasizing his honor without implying divinity. Let me know if you’d like Qur’anic references or how these beliefs compare with Christian views.
  17. Oh- I must have got my wires crossed somehow. At any rate it would have been ironic if did have a Muslim covert brother though…
  18. Its kept out of the search engines for various reasons. If you check with chatgpt you will find that Mozaffar too was poped positive for PED's by UWRHB and his recital performance of 1.40 minutes with single breath was pharmaceutically aided.
  19. I believe Aaron Brooks brother-Mozzafar- who is a Muslim convert -went on for 1 minute 40 seconds without taking a breath trying to express his indignation about his brother false profit claim. The crowd loved him too…
  20. Not dunking on him at all. I was dunking on your self righteous remark stereotyping Iranians as cheaters. Personally I don’t care one way or another about Aaron Brooks.
  21. Oops- Aaron Brooks… oh dear oh dear. God given undertook… lol
  22. Iran has the national tournament as well as the Takhti cup. Doing well in these is the prerequisite for being considered a contender for the weight. Often there is written and predefined ‘cycle’ for who ultimately gets the national nomination which would also involve competing in international tournaments. The Takhti cup and National Championships are not based on league structure but instead individual provinces send wrestlers based on quotas. Often you see Mazandaran wrestlers participating under the flag/quota of other provinces. The league competitions is separate and performed with teams ( not individual winners for the competition but teams winners)often with industrial sponsors that allows a revenue stream for the athletes. They will often have wrestlers from Russia also participate as the funding whilst not huge is enough to be conducive to participation.
  23. I believe the upcoming new head of Iranian wrestling federation( apparently due to be in post mid August) Rasoul Khadem intends to send a strong team to the world championship in September. I have it from good authority that Hassan Cherati won’t make it for 86 kg ( too concerned about losing to Z. Valencia being a prodigy of D. Taylor apparently)but instead is looking to go down to 79kg.

  25. Yes- All the noise about foreign wrestlers taking the places for indigenous athletes, coming from Bulgaria does seem to have gone quiet which is understandable. If you have some current reigning Olympic champions albeit trained elsewhere, it makes much sense to let them get on with it specially if the ranks of home grown talent are not at the same level. Although in the long run it will make it more difficult to recruit others.... but perhaps that was the point.
