What current wrestler stalls the most?
PUWrestler replied to mattramosjr's topic in College Wrestling
Fun fact: MAM outscored Lilledahl in the NCAA tourney. If you count the cumulative # of points scored by each wrestler over the course of the tourney, here's what you get: Lilledahl: 11 + 4 + 2 + 8 + 2 = 27 MAM: 17 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 28 (if you watch the first match, there were 16 points on the scoreboard at the time of the pin and MAM had over 1 minute of riding time) -
I hear he's having a pretty good career as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 3-Point Takedown - Folkstyle's Sea Change
PUWrestler replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
What would happen if you made riding time worth 2 points instead of 1? Folkstyle wrestling is supposed to be about controlling your opponent. In these low scoring matches, there is little attempt to ride out your opponent until the tiebreakers. With a 2-point differential between a takedown and an escape, the 1 point of riding time isn't worth enough to try to ride out a period. Making riding time 2 points would encourage more mat wrestling, a distinguishing feature of folkstyle. I also think the way stalling is currently called in the top/bottom position is better than the way it is called from neutral. -
I think Frezza was an automatic qualifier at 141. Top 3 qualified at the Ivy tourney for that weight class.

PSU/Princeton and Iowa/OSU Draftkings betting lines

Princeton had backups in at 157 and 174. That might have made a three point difference in the dual. At 141, Martino is a dangerous wrestler to tie up with. -
Who is the most impressive freshman so far this year?
PUWrestler replied to peanut's topic in College Wrestling
Both Jaxon Joy and Colin Gaj have impressed me so far this year. I’d love to see a rematch at NCAAs. -
Vito delaying Final X match against Jax

Is this happening today? If so, why no thread? -
This is what the NCAA has on its website for this year's tourney. Notice Session 5 lists only 3 mats: Saturday 10 a.m. Session 5- Three Mat Configuration Wrestle-Back Semifinals on all three mats. Followed by third, fifth and seventh place medal round matches. 6 p.m. Session 6- One Championship Mat Championship weight class finals. Individual weight class awards. https://www.ncaa.com/championships/wrestling/d1/championships-schedule

Any idea where the women’s brackets are? I can’t find them on track.

This explains last year. Not sure about this year: https://www.nj.com/sports/2024/01/princeton-wrestling-to-open-ivy-league-schedule-and-other-program-notes.html?outputType=amp

How many one armed pullups can Elor do?
-
Elor, 10-0, in under 2 minutes. Takedown to leg lace.
-
Elor dominates again, this time 8-0, to move on to the semis.
-
Coon lost 3-1. Evenly balanced on their feet, but the Iranian got the turn in par terre and Coon didn’t.

The term "generational talent" should be a trailing indicator, not a leading one.

Question: why are the weights for men's freestyle different from greco? 60kg would work so much better for Vito.

Last Chance Qualifiers - Brackets & Discussion
PUWrestler replied to nhs67's topic in International Wrestling
I'm interested to see how Kolodzik does in two weeks. He looked as sharp as I've seen him. Teched everyone he wrestled without giving up an offensive point. I think he has a better chance of a deep run than anyone else at Last Chance, given his experience and the lack of an absolute hammer at 65kg. -

Looks like Crook got robbed.

As an alumnus who follows the program closely, I see encouraging signs for the future. McGowan (125) is greyshirting. Whalen (who won Midlands) and Mulhauser are taking a year off. Their current 125 pounder (Heethuis) is very good, but dropping a lot of weight. They have three freshmen starting who just need time to develop. Not only did Ayres leave on short notice, their associate head coach Sean Gray also followed him. Give Dubuque a few years to develop this team.

I’m sure many EIWA teams are trying to figure out Cornell’s secret sauce, arguing admissions work arounds (Ag School), huge support from the AD (former head coach), Koll’s charisma and ability to attract top talent, etc. Yet other schools seem to be getting more admissions support, the AD and Koll are gone, and Grey is killing it this year. Something in the Ithaca water?

The EIWA conference didn’t fare well on Thursday and Friday, but went 9-1 on Saturday (Cardenas the only loss). Seems like a top heavy conference with only Cornell, Lehigh and Princeton performing well. Can Penn, Columbia and others close the distance next year?

I think it's time to get some new ideas for Fanfest at NCAA's. I know Tulsa is not Orlando, but just to get the creative juices flowing, watch this:
