Couple thoughts on what it has made it a down year for me:
1. Duals don't matter anymore - only March (been happening for years, but feels like its reached a tipping point)
2. In season tournaments don't matter as much any more - only March (been happening for years, but feels like its reached a tipping point)
3. The team race in March has been decided for years - its Penn State.
So with duals and in season tournaments rendered meaningless, and the final tournament already decided, you have to focus on individual weight classes to find an interesting narrative.
Gable Steveson reentering college wrestling as the clear favorite also removes the excitement from one of the ten weight classes (as it seems obvious he will win).
So we're down to 9 weight classes that we hope are not too one-sided. Or you could eagerly watch for which team will place in second.
And then add to all of this - that in order to follow a team or to follow the most important in season activity, you need to subscribe to about five different services - many of whom have struggled with quality and reliability of broadcast.
