Dean/Allred rematch in the 2nd round, winner likely to get Bonnacc....however you spell it....in the quarters
-
And my gripe is that "shot clock" shouldn't matter. If both wrestlers are engaged and neither is backing down, what difference does it make? How about this scenerio...wrestler A on bottom, stands up, and wrestler B lifts him back to the mat....rinse and repeat five times. Is wrestler B stalling because all he is doing is returning the opponent to the mat and wrestler A seems to be carrying all the action? You'd never see that called, but it's not much different in context--wrestler B is defending the action created by wrestler A.
-
That was my point. How many times have you heard a crowd start screaming for stalling because Wrestler A has shot five times to Wrestler B's none? It's not a question of how many times you shoot, it's a question of whether you are engaging or (as you said) preemptively backing away. Sprawling on a shot attempt is the text-book defense. It doesn't mean Wrestler B isn't engaging, it means he is countering the actions by Wrestler A. It's not much different than countering with a Whizzer (spelled how it should be to make others happy) and stopping the shot. Just my view from the cheap seats.........
-
Whizzer just doesn't sound right.....

I believe the rule is the same in HS. In TB-1, you can choose top, bottom or neutral. In UTB, you can only choose Top or Bottom. College, by virtue of the riding time in TB-1, doesn't have a UTB any longer.
-
I thought the choice was any of the three. I could swear there was a college match this season where I saw a wrestler choose neutral in OT. Facundo/Kennedy, perhaps?
-
While we're at it, let's make it such that if someone shoots, and you wizard, you are stalling---because it's nothing more than an attempt to stop the offensive wrestler from finishing. That's how absurd some of you all are viewing the sport. I got into an argument with an official once who dinged a kid for stalling because when the opponent shot, he sprawled. Isn't that the counter to a shot? Isn't this the same as if someone puts a half on, I look away and peel the hand?

Nice win by Allred.

Why didn't Hardy take top? Got two stall calls and erased riding time. You would think he'd go right back to his strength. Color me puzzled.........

Quote of the day (thus far) RBY, when asked what his 3rd B1G title means "Not much, I am focused on two weeks from now"
-
It is. I've watched him since he was a small freshman, he's very tough. Took 3rd in Jr. and Sr years......Sr year lost to Foley in the quarters 2-1 SV. For whatever reason, Foley has just had his number throughout the years.
-
Awful close for Paddy. Official is one of the best in the business, gotta go with what he saw live.
-
Or.....better yet..... Enforce the rules already in place (or in other words, call STALLING as it's designed to be called)
-
That is not what I said---I said "What if Wrestler A shoots, and Wrestler-B executes a Slide-By" ?? Wrestler-B is not relying on anything, he is reacting and hitting his offensive move. What was proposed was giving 1 point for a Defensive TD. So.....was Wrester-B's TD an offensive or defensive TD? We already have issues with subjective officiating without tossing complications like this into the mix. Just my view from the cheap seats........
-
Just witnessed this yesterday in the Northwester/Rutgers dual where the coach tossed the brick to question a 5-count (I think that's what it was) He didn't do it because he felt the call was incorrect, it did it to give his wrestler a lung-timeout. Heck, even the announcers said as much.
-
How do you decide whether it was an offensive or defensive TD? It can't just be "who shoots", as there are many a good counter attacks which could be deemed 'offensive' attacks. Example: Wrestler A attempts a shot, and Wrestler B performs a beautiful slide-by on the attempt. A slide-by could be considered an offensive move. If you go by who shoots, and I am up by 2pts, I am going to shoot wildly knowing that if the other guy gets the TD, he's only going to get a point for it. And I've just successfully drained a lot of clock. Just my view from the cheap seats.......

1-point for take downs 0-points for escape 0-riding time If tied going into OT, both on their feet, no clock, and go until one man scores (TD, Penalty Point....doesn't matter) Removing the points for riding time means top man can no longer just ride the hips, thus allowing the official to quit giving the top a pass and actually call stalling. Making the stalling points the same level as a TD will cause action.

Well done, @Mr. PeanutButter

Good match....as a fan, it was entertaining!

Difference being one was doing it while winning, and one was doing it while whining.

8-6 Iowa after 3 matches
-
With the first two matches leading to a three-point swing, I don't believe there is enough now for Iowa to overcome.
-
????? You mean the "Best Pizza in Iowa" qualifier? I recall my first trip to Des Moines, to do work for Casey's on the west side, and they told me of their Pizza. I didn't believe them---because they are Gas Station/Convenience Stores. Boy was I shock---in a good way.
