I'm a bit confused on the scoring of that. The ref originally called 4 blue 2 red. Which indicates she was giving Zahid credit for feet to back and then 2 to Ukr for exposure. After the challenge, they switched it to 4 red 2 blue.

If they are giving Ukr credit for a 4 pt feet to back chest wrap (which I think was the right call, there was a very slight hesitation and it was more of a lift than just rolling Zahid through on a continuation of the double), then what did Zahid get 2 points for? He didn't get a takedown, and it wasn't his exposure. If Zahid is given 2 for exposure, then it couldn't be a 4 pointer for Ukr, right? Should that not have been 4 red 0 blue, or 2 red 2 blue?

    good point.

i think perhaps zahid exposed on the continuation out of bounds?

Zahid in on double.  Hoisted over.  Given 4.  Challenge.  I didn’t see any stop and change in direction.  But challenge won.  So Zahid down 4-2. Zahid aggressor.  2 step outs.  4-4.  Hunting low ankles.  Stuck under.  Ukrainian hoists and given two for an exposure.  Hmmm.  Very close.  No challenge.  Zahid TD.  6-6 but UKR has criteria.  10 sec left in 1st.

2nd - ref gives point to Z for hands to face.  Chair doesn’t agree.  6-6.  Zahid hunting.  UKR does fire.  Nada.  Chair very vocal.  Looks like UKR warmed for passivity.  Z trapped under.  UKR blocking off.  Does fire.  Z turned on chest wrap.  6-8.  25 sec to go.   1 to Zahid, no.  Not given.  Zahid loses

He has not separated from world pack.

when i saw it, i would have scored it 4 ukr and 2 usa just like they did

however, i can't believe they let ukr RUN the entire second period and NO 30 second clock

he did one counter and shot once at 35 seconds left... that was it, backward and running

he didn't come close to holding center

now zahid could have done a bit more actual attacks but...

The match that makes people cringe at freestyle scoring has to be finesilvers

he lifts the guy, hanging on his back, im yelling just drop on top of him backwards!!!

he does a cartwheel and gets two

then does the exact same move and gets four

    talk about inconsistency

    Wrestlestat shows Flo broadcasting EIWA.

I think last year that ACC and Big 12 were both on ESPN or ESPN+.  Big Ten on the Big Ten Network.  Completely unsure about SoCon, MAC, and Pac-12.  NCAA were on ESPN I think.

im not at home... but i was looking this weekend and think i saw socon and mac were also on espn+

i would bet pac 12 is on pac 12...which i dont have

IIRC Fix got the stall call for holding ankles past the 5 count and the action was stopped because it looked like it would have ended in a stalemate. Teske later held ankles past 5 but the referee let the action continue because he was almost out for the escape. I remember one the officials called for the riding time clock to be stopped after Teske's stall warning.

yes  both were right calls... however, why did the count start so much later on teske...

Absolutely terrible effort out of Hardy.  He quit after giving up 6.  Not sure if he's dinged up/sick but if not...gutless effort.

i dont think he gave up right away... but the decision to ride... probably not a good one...

that kid was tough... not sure which way to attack a 5 point deficit against him

  6. serious question Fix v Teske

at some point ithink first period after a td? or maybe 2nd and fix was on top. fix is on top and they are in a scramble and fix dives at ankles etc...

the ref almost immediately counts, and there is a stall but fix doens't care b/c end of period and he stayed in control

Then the next period teske on top and the same type of situation happens and teske on ankles... no count for about 20 seconds... he finally does count and gives the stall warning. but allowed it for a long time before the count.

what was the difference in the situations...?

    anyone else see this?

Riding on top is a skill and very hard to do at the higher levels. But the difficulty to be in control goes down when their is no intent to turn. When a wrestler ankle rides or has double boots in without any intention to turn riding becomes less difficult and is really a way to waste time. My pet peeve while watching college wrestling is when a top wrestler who has double boots in and in full control is showing minimal intention to turn but yet bottom man gets hit with stalling.

i agree, the ankle rides, double thigh pry and double boots should be called stalling

I'll mention my idea for the umpteenth time, not that anyone cares...

Riding time should not be worth a point. Rather, it should only be used to break a tie at the end of regulation, much as it is used at the end of overtime.

So, if a match is tied 6-6 at the end of seven minutes, you can break the tie and award a win if one of the wrestlers has more than a minute of riding time.

It's a bit similar to the check mark system used for aggressiveness and other criteria in eastern martial arts.

i like this idea... but being in control is still a skill. a hard skill.

    if everyone could do it...

I always liked the idea of having the wrestlers start each period in neutral.  Riding time is then awarded to a wrestler achieving a takedown or reversal.  And Refs actually enforcing the neutral rules that already exist.

    i do like this idea!!

  10. its called riding time. but i think it's meant as control time. control doesn't mean i turn him, it means i control him.

and im old enough to remember the fiasco in international where you couldn't win without 3 points... wasn't a fan of taht.

this i must score 2 to get riding time is well.. about the same...

Call me when a funded project pays for the light bill, groceries, and rent. That's the difference between athletes and acadmics - now athletes get a scholarship AND paid.

i agree, i talked to a guy whose kid is on scholly D1 and i was disgusted.

however, i know some students who make out pretty well as well, but yes.. not every student who is on the team like in football.

What about the academic students?  Shouldn't students at a Harvard or Stanford get NIL deal for helping make those top universities?  What about the students in say the top Civil Engineering or Computer Science program, should they get NIL, maybe free food?  Most of the commercials they show during a football, basketball etc contest featuring the university are showing academic programs and students.  Where do these students featured in such go to collect their coin?

i agree. those students have had nil for quite some time... right from the university. they get funded projects and scholarships.  many people pay the UNIV. to benefit certain programs of their liking and the money sometimes goes to students who are doing the research etc.  or are a top student in their college.

I do get what you are saying it isn't the same, but yeah

  13. 125: 223           57 (125) :223

    133: 267         61 (134)  267

    141: 300          65 (143):  300/465

    half of these go down
    149: 331

                          70 (154):  165.5+169=334.5

half of these 157 go down
    157: 338 half of 157 go up

    165: 299           74(163) 169+299 = 468

    174: 280            79 (174)  280

184: 262       where do these guys go? 10 more pounds? down 6 up... probably up...

                              86(190)  117 +  262  = 379

197: 234 half of these go down half go up

                                   92(203)  : 117

                                    97(214) :  57
    285: 227 1/4 of these go down       127(276): 170

for the first few years it looks like a problem. maybe things will even out... but i dont see us gaining wrestlers at 92 and 97 in college

i really dont see the benefit. more people for fewer opportunities in the middle if we switch and more opportuinities for fewer people at the top...

also, what do we do when they change again? how often do the international weights change? are they as consistent as ncaa and nfhs?

are they done 'scientifically'?  like, supposedly the hs weights are a distribution...

  14.

i mean i agree dakes feat was incredible.. but he didn't wrestle all those guys. and just b/c more guys wrestled at taht weight, doesn't mean there are fewer wrestlers at the upper weights..

it means fewer wrestled matches... redshirts are going to wrestle... but are the older young kids still seeing competition or waiting until they are 'ready' to compete

I dont really see how the freestyle weights address this problem, they add to the upper weights , a 210? or 211? which isn't apparently where the wrestlers are...

and take away a weight as someone pointed out.. 149, where there are lots of wrestlers

Good question. In 1932, 1936 and 1948 the NCAA did use Olympic weights to prepare for the Olympics. I cannot find any statement as to why they abandoned that practice in 1952 and beyond.

if i'm a senior in college, and my weight class changes from the year before... do i end up like Kolat or mcilravy did when the weights in freestyle changed... a little aced out and in between...
