Its probably really hard to show your personality much when a mic is shoved in your face seconds after winning a match. I can see the appeal of defaulting to known responses built on percieved safe answers. Or in some cases like Brooks, somehow turning safe answers into defiant ones. I'd challenge anyone to stop training and just focus on prayer. Since we know that wouldn't lead to success, there are other variables *in addition to prayer* that accounted for success. The audience would like to hear about that too following victories.

Go back and watch the last few seasons of NCAA interviews and note how often questions are asked about family, teammates, personal adversity, coaches or even unique personality quirks and take a shot each time the question is ignored to talk about religion.
-
It doesnt have to be all or nothing. They can discuss it as well as the other things that made them successful.
-
No. I just want him to tell me about wrestling when interviewed. Changes in training. Influences of coaches, family and traiming partners. Maybe talk about nutrition and/or strength and conditioning. Wrestling stuff. Mindset is fine and you can certainly thank God or praise him if that is the driving force brhind your mindset, but share the other stuff too. This isn't strictly a Snyder criticism. its horrendous to listen to. Its an echo chamber. I won't say its virtue signaling because im not sure it is, but it certainly isn't entertaining and a lot of work and sacrifice go into succeeding at the highest levels. Some fans want to hear about that instead of religion.

Probably why Taylor took a position against drinking

I wonder if Bassett feels left out in the future OSU vs PSU battle for supremacy.
-
Maybe this incident Makes Interviews Great Again. I was pretty bored of the religious stuff. We are there to watch and hear about wrestling. I'd like to hear about coaches and teammates as much as, if not more than, religious beliefs. It seems self indulgent. Otherwise I think Snyder will bounce back. We all stumble.

Alvarez had more medals than the entire Rutgers team. -
Hawkeyes had a good run

The once Great Iowa Wrestling Program reaching Pathetic status
ironmonkey replied to feet2back's topic in College Wrestling
Hate the game, not the player. Plus not making the podium might be part of why he left! -
After watching the finals, i was frustrated with refs but also the wrestlers in the few matches. I fully support first takedown being worth more. Wrestlers are circling to the middle. I dont understand freestyle fans fascination with the step out. Folkstyle has some great edge wrestling. As long as guys aren't fleeing, and they aren't, this doesn't seem to fix anything. It just caters to a preference. Forcing action at the start in neutral seems like the builder that needs to be moved.

Coaches who should be in the hot seat after NCAAs

Rutgers underperformed again but I think Gooddale has more time. ⁰⁰ -
Which teams are overperforming / underperforming so far?
ironmonkey replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Iowa state and Rutgers underperforming -
Eliminate chalkenge bricks and reviews or st least find a way to streamline them. Otherwise Folkstyle is great. Fans don't wabt freestyle

What's the technical rule on pushout = stalling?
ironmonkey replied to Fletcher's topic in College Wrestling
The Big Ten tournament was exciting. Lots of action and upsets. I'm not sure how a step out does anything but satisfy the freestyle contingent. There was plenty of action. The calls seemed consistent to me. -
Who actually could beat Steveson this year?
ironmonkey replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
The path to wearing him out would have to be on the mat. High tempo and scoring exchanges on their feet would benefit Steveson. I dont see a way but I hope it happens! -
Good match. It will be interesting to see who scores more at nationals.
-
Rutgers underperformed. They didn't look great.

Freestyle is ok. I don't believe changing college wrestling will help the Freestyle wrestlers much. For all the talk of guys like Retheford not placing because it fits a narrative, there are facts like an Injury and Rivera getting a medal that at least challenge folkstyke as a scapegoat.

Should NCAA wrestling adopt all or some freestyle rules?
ironmonkey replied to peanut's topic in International Wrestling
You can't compare better wrestlers to worse wrestlers and use it as evidence of anything style related in mma. It's biased. As some others pointed out, lots of folkstylers have had success. -
Should NCAA wrestling adopt all or some freestyle rules?
ironmonkey replied to peanut's topic in International Wrestling
The same opportunities exist after college wether Freestyle is embraced or not. A very select few will continue competing in freestyle and the rest retire. Some will go to mma. I don't see tons of people continuing to wrestle after college other than the most successful, who already do. -

Anyone hear any news here? Or has the buzz died down for time being? -

I'm not sure all discussion is hate. I consider myself a Goodale fan but he has supporters that jump to interupt any discussion about the program that isn't entirely positive. I think good fan discussion takes place somewhere between the cheerleaders and the haters. Losing Pritzlaff was a big blow. His arrival marked the start of some post season success for a team that struggled there. I think fans are eager to see a replacement that can help continue that success. Some fans of course want a lot more and others have their loyalties while demanding very little. I think most are watching this closely and hoping for the best.
