If there was a 215, which current guys would thrive there?

Braxton Amos, Ethan Laird, Michael Beard, Tanner Sloan.  Not sure how many others currently would benefit from that class but I could be missing a bunch

Off the top of my head in addition to those you listed I can think of Jacob Warner, Thomas Penola, Lucas Davison, both Elam brothers, Truax, Christian Carrol (incoming), Pete Christiansen (will possibly never make a varsity start at Wisconsin).

Anthony Cassar, Jacob Kasper, Ty Walz, and Derek White are other recent high success contemporaries

If the tweeners don't like it then they can just cut harder or lift more. That's what the tweeners of today are always told.

    Sincerely,

Too big for 197 / too small for 285 who is tired of hearing "no 220er competes after HS" like yeah no shit it's because there is no point except for the blue chip elite so why waste the few precious years of my youth. If you give opportunities you would be shocked to see increased results.

There’s not any simple solutions. As far as the thread. Some of the views seem either naive or bitter due to not getting the same chances

I swear to god whoever calls Waste Management and gets this thread shut down, just when we are FINALLY hitting our stride all the way down on page 6 is going to meet up behind the monkey bars after school

  4. The simple solution (on paper) is to blow up the NCAA and pursue the sports academy route used most notably in Euro football. A person focuses either on academics or sport. If sport, they receive $ and can fully focus their efforts on sport. If academics, they fully focus their efforts on upper/secondary school. There is no overlap, there is no redshirt, there is only the chosen focus.

Death to the NCAA... but it may mean death to ours and many other olympic sports if it comes to fruition.

One of these days Cael's inability to get a 125lbers to NCAAs is gonna turn around and bite him. THERE ARE TEN WEIGHTS GUYS!

Carl met a professor at PSU teaching a weird offshoot of common core math. It's a really weird concept where the premise is that 5 champs is worth more points than 10 qualifiers. I don't understand it either and when I tried to help my kid with his homework the teacher gave me an F

Also, Carl has a really good 125. He just happened to exhaust his NCAA eligibility at Iowa.

I have been away far too long and forgot that people like to cling to one word in a comment and then call you an idiot or say something like Absurd. Because I am sure your direct experiences are the same as mine. Many kids coming out of HS who are also interested in playing a college sport have some level of post-secondary courses. Kids now realize the importance of having good grades, unlike when I was coming out. Also, many parents understand that it can also save them money. So to be clear and not "Absurd," based on the athletes my daughter played with, based on all the coaches I know (in numerous sports), many student-athletes are taking advantage of post-secondary opportunities.

Furthermore, AP classes are the only way an HS Student can get college credit. There are several ways students can obtain those credits without taking any AP classes. But yes, my opinion is clearly "Absurd." At least I am good at something. Thank you for setting me on the correct path.

You came out guns blazing and said "Most kids are getting at least a year of college credits while in HS if not two." If that were the case then shouldn't most college students only spend two years obtaining their bachelors degree? That was my absurdist take and I find my premise valid.

As a parent of a kid (and not an academic standout) who has gone through college and played a sport while in college, if it takes you more than four years to graduate, you are not trying. Most kids are getting at least a year of college credits while in HS if not two. Hell, that is even in FL. If these kids can do it, any kid should be able to.

Sometimes people change their major and that requires more time based on the current structure of higher education. I was student teaching and realized that wasn't my career path, and not all credits I had earned to that point counted towards my much more generic business degree. Also, not every kid takes a freshman year's worth of AP classes, much less "most" - that is a patently absurd take.

Here's my total ILLINI homer preview of 125 to 157. I only discuss top fifty wrestlestat.com rated wrestlers. I'm a ranking snob.

    Here's 165 to 285.

This tournament was the tits last year. You get the starters, reserves and true freshmen. Nonstop action. Don't **** it up, Flo. Cheers!

Glad you're here to double the number of Illini fans on the board and glad to see you getting more exposure. Pretty sure you're the only person that still posts on IM besides Tamillow when he gets weird. I hope this place has South Park fans 🤣🤣

Would not be shocked if he's at 285 next season after Hilger leaves.

They lost Copass to Purdue, but do you see Amos beating out Christensen? He would be the starter at so many other schools and it's awesome he chose the path he wanted but it's a real shame we didn't get to see him compete 4 years.

    That would make sense.

There's a very, very small chance of that happening. His best bet would be going up to 92kg, medaling, and getting a bye to the 86kg semi-finals. Also, getting senior level experience at a world-level tournament would be good for him.

Biggest problem Zahid has is his gas tank. Going up to 92kg and then coming back down would make that worse. DT didn't even push the pace and still teched him in match 2, though.

I think if Zahid went on this quest he would not try to gain. I think, in this unlikely hypothetical, that he would pull a Dake'16 and go to WTT (and worlds if he wins the spot) at his walking weight which is probably low to mid 190s at most. He was still a 79 as late as 2019 and obviously thought that he was significantly undersized/overpowered if he did not give it a go at 92 at last year's WTT to try to take out Cox.

K.Moore needs to go down because he is the instant favorite to make the team if he does.

Worlds medalists in non-Oly weights earn a bye to the semi-finals.  Can't be a Worlds  medalist unless you compete at Worlds.

I mean no disrespect to Cardenes, but if he can beat the 2022 Worlds Bronze medalist at 92 KG then we have a dozen or so others, maybe dozens, that can from 86 KG to 97 KG .

I hope I am correct in saying this:  92 KG is going yo be a US Men's Freestyle wet dream.  Everyone who not named Zahid Valencia or J'Den Cox that is not a realistic 'contender' at 86 KG or 97 KG is going to do what they need to do to get a shot at that bye for 2024 Oly-trials.

In Valencia's and Cox's minds they are the favorites not only over the WTT field, but over the incumbents as well.  Anybody who doesn't also truly believe that should head to 92 KG and I think it is going to make it the juiciest non-Oly trials we have ever seen.  The kind that makes you wish that from the QF on were Best of Three series.  Probably even the R16 matches too.

Do you think Zahid gets weird and attempts to bump up to 92 with the goal of getting a bye to 86 semis at OTT a year later? I don't see it working out even if he wins the spot, but it is an intriguing thought exercise if for no other reason than it is the offseason and silly ideas are best discussed at this time of year.

Everyone knows Bono is petty and vindictive. This is why you don’t go to a school with a coach like that. Also, educate yourself on rules.

He had no problem leaving SDSU to go to Wisconsin after recruiting tons of student-athletes and promising the parents of those student-athletes that he would do right by them. That doesn't even bring up his well-documented past of, shall we say, really shady and petty crap.
