i agree. those students have had nil for quite some time... right from the university. they get funded projects and scholarships.  many people pay the UNIV. to benefit certain programs of their liking and the money sometimes goes to students who are doing the research etc.  or are a top student in their college.

I do get what you are saying it isn't the same, but yeah

Call me when a funded project pays for the light bill, groceries, and rent. That's the difference between athletes and acadmics - now athletes get a scholarship AND paid.

  2. Snyder wasn't Hodge worthy. Absolute world beater, literally, but didn't light up the scoreboard or get pins. Maybe if there was a weight class comparable to what he has won his eight world medals in then he would have racked up more points/techs instead of having to treat each match as a seven minute weightlifting session...

Cox wasn't bad either.  3x champ at an upper weight, and it took a world and Olympic champ to keep him from getting 4.  Also won an Olympic medal himself while still in college.  His bonus rate wasn't as impressive because of his wrestling style, but 136-4 college record (28-0 his senior season) wasn't too shabby.

Cox and Yianni are very similar. Great champions, just not Hodge material. Personally, I would rather have senior world finals appearances than an age group MVP award for lighting up the scoreboard/racking up pins and I bet they feel the same.

What about the academic students?  Shouldn't students at a Harvard or Stanford get NIL deal for helping make those top universities?  What about the students in say the top Civil Engineering or Computer Science program, should they get NIL, maybe free food?  Most of the commercials they show during a football, basketball etc contest featuring the university are showing academic programs and students.  Where do these students featured in such go to collect their coin?

Yes they should. And that is why athletics should be seperated from academic institutions a la Canada. Death to the NCAA, even though it means a near-certain death of our sport as well.

So that's weird... Why go into the portal  toward the end of the season, ranked in the top 10 at 20-3 and having wrestled just last week? Injured?

No one wants to get Burkwick-Bono'd. Yara and other Ivy competitors will be the exceptions to the new rule. You are going to start seeing kids enter the portal Every. Single. Year. even if they don't plan to leave. Coaches could leave at any point and could recruit over kids at any point, now the scales are tipped closer to being equally balanced.

  6. Nolf is the best in my opinion because not only was he a generational talent (4 finals, 3 titles) but he also dominated. It took another even greater year from fellow generational talent Bo Nickal for Nolf to not at least get the senior year bump after Zain wrecked the field the prior two years. Not saying they were not deserving winners, but Nolf will be nothing more than fodder in a decade and that's a damn shame because he was as innovative, daring, dominant, and exciting as it got.

Other than academics? Fill me in. Look I’m not trying to start a pissing contest here.  The place is hours away from any civilization. Young people like the urban scene.

There are not many schools that fit a criteria of Top 50 school AND urban scene. State College and Iowa City are not booming metro meccas, and neither is Ithaca, NY. I guess you could kind of argue Chapel Hill/Durham is an oasis in NC?

NYU, Stanford, UT Austin, etc. are few and far between. Even Miami (FL) is #55 so wouldn't meet this criteria, and it's a fantastic school.

Warner is an incredibly frustrating watch, but this type of result is not super out-of-line with previous results.  He's got so much ability, but obviously struggles with the mental game. taking shots with more than 30 seconds left in the match.

    FIFY

Also, Warner is a great example of the need for a 97kg-esque light heavyweight weight class. He looks exhausted from sucking down even if he wrestles 2 hours after weigh-ins. And he is still a 3x AA, 1x finalist despite not being at an optimal weight.

Good to hear, hope they keep it up, Illinois was a tough dual team 10 years ago. As to why anyone would want to go to university of Illinois, is another thing.

idk academics? Not everyone wants to go to Iowa or Wisconsin to get drunk for five years (4.5 if you try really hard second semester freshman year). Only Northwestern and Michigan have better p4p undergrad academics.

    Max Dean: 1st, 2nd, 8th

    Jacob Warner: 2nd, 4th, 7th

    Nino Bonaccorsi: 2nd

    Mid-season Transfer: Stephen Buchanan: 3rd, 8th

    Bernie Truax: 4th, 4th

    Rocky Elam: 4th, 5th

    Yonger Bastida: 5th

    Gavin Hoffman: 6th

    Michael Beard7th

    Medical Redshirt: Lou DePrez: 8th

So far it is confirmed that DePrez succumbed to HEW and this board has told me that Warner and Elam both have it too. Hoffman had it until he discovered a HEW vaccine at last years NCAAs. Who else on that list is HEW and we just don’t know about it on the internet yet?

  11. If Caffey is interested in continuing his wrestling career post-collegiately, I hope he strongly considers joining the greco team at IRTC. Medlin whiffed not going after him out of HS as an unpolished gem in this internet idiot’s opinion.

Overall great analysis but Nolf winning would be a pretty big surprise. 2X world silver Salkazanov is the clear favorite to win gold. He's on the other side of the bracket and will likely face 2022 world bronze Younes Emami in the second round.

Also, Nolf's second match against Gadzhiev will be tough...he was a U20 world champ last year.

Dunking all over Kozak's take. Bet you never thought you'd be wrong to a broken clock didja?
