Should Olympic Reps be Decided before Pan Am OG Qualifier?
bnwtwg replied to juniorvarsity's topic in International Wrestling
Every single one of those jack wagon posts should have election year fine print that says "This message endorsed by the People For Pyles Super PAC" -
He went 65 in the past because he worked out with Burroughs every day and knew his odds at 65 were better than 74. JB is an all time Russia-level final boss gatekeeper.

Should Olympic Reps be Decided before Pan Am OG Qualifier?

Maybe these people whining and complaining should pull themselves up by their bootstraps, make weight, and qualify 57/65 themselves if they don't like the results. -

It is not a new year. The season goes from WTT to WTT/OTT. That is the year, not the calendar. Get over it people we missed at Pan Ams. If you don't like it work harder to keep Cruz, Gomez, Micic, Amine et al competing for USA instead of somewhere else. I guarantee all you people whining and complaining also blamed the ref and your coaches when you couldn't even make it to state in high school. -

Why let them? Because they earned that right. The senior rep should not have to constantly take on challenge matches like they are trying to hold down the varsity spot in high school. They have earned the right and we should give them the respect their accolades demand. -
You think Nichols isn't underwriting his dual-sport foray?

Should USA coaches/RTC help foreign athletes beat Americans?
bnwtwg replied to Dogbone's topic in International Wrestling
America is a capitalist economy. This includes companies with international reaches both foreign and domestic. Each RTC strives to be the best above all others. RTCs making international inroads is as American as apple pie flavored capitalism. -
Maybe Austin Gomez is just really good. Like, so good he wrestled at worlds last year. And was an age group world team member. And won 4 stop signs at Fargo. Big move guys can make big waves in short time in freestyle... or they can get teched/pinned in the blink of an eye. That's what makes it so exciting.

Zahid medaled six months ago giving up 15 pounds. He also was an inhaler/cold spray break from keeping his lead over Brooks (and thus giving AB the weird opportunity to likely switch places at 92). He has won rankings tournaments and made it to Final X multiple times. He made OTT semis in 2021 losing to another gold medal threat in Bo Nickal. If anyone has any doubt that Zahid would bring home many medals then they are a fool. His country just happens to have a top 3 P4P hammer and everyone is stuck down the ladder until Taylor retires to raise cows and sell their raw milk at his shop.

It's why we wrestle the matches. And these tough results are among the most valuable lessons our great sport teaches us. -
Should Olympic Reps be Decided before Pan Am OG Qualifier?

I genuinely believe with the way the schedule goes combined with the USAW tournament setup rather than selection by committee that this is the best approach. The rep has to peak for OTT and Olympics no matter what. The tricky part is this worst-case scenario. The rep has to peak for at least Pan Ams. THEN we hit the muck. It's great in theory and I support sending the current rep under definition of 1 season = WTT to OTT but USAW created "The Gilman Rule" specifically because of 57 not medaling last year. Of course, Gilman lost TWICE and if everyone is so butthurt about Richards losing then they should *really* be worried about the guy who proved throughout the calendar year that he wasn't the best rep. So now you have to peak for a 3 match series AND og last chance. It's a lot. But would you rather hit a series of peaks from March through May or peak b2b2b all in a row? Neither is a good solution honestly. But given our selection system of keep what you kill then this seems to be the least bad option. -

It makes sense from a fiscal perspective if one takes off their (much richer) American hat. Countries are required to compete in the games in order to participate at the Olympic qualifier. Why double up on planes, hotels, and other travel logistics for a February tourney and a May tourney when you can visit a single city for one week and knock out both tournaments. -

Call me when Team USA isn't consistently finishing top 3 and then I'll be open to revisiting the qualification process. This may come as a shock, but only one person can win a wrestling match and sometimes that doesn't work in the favor of the person you wanted it to. Or maybe it does, like when I was rooting for Austin Gomez to beat Nick Lee. -
Austin Gomez becoming an Olympian can mean only one thing: FIRE BONO

No changes should be made. The US is in a golden age for freestyle. If it's not broke then don't fix it. Just remember to keep focus on where the wrestlers are from rather than the laundry they are wearing. -
