  1. We all knew the singlet pull call was home cooking, for sure. But we also know you have to kill the king to take the crown, too. Warranted call. Jordan’s a coach and an athlete who’s been on the short end of political reffing for his whole wrestling life - I’m alright with him getting that point literally at home. I think Jordan still wrestling at this level does so much for the sport, so I’m glad he’s still here and fighting for criteria wins instead of sitting. I also think Chance was a definitively better wrestler this season, and I’m excited for him to get a bit of the glow after the road he’s had to get back to this level of competition.
  2. I think this is the first time I'm reading details of the incident -- so much malpractice all around. Angering, really. I'm glad he'll be financially protected through this. Thanks for posting!
  3. Marsteller turns out to be who we thought he was gonna be in 2014. Chance in two.
  4. Will continue to read this report in a second, but wanted to clarify: Northwestern, also, is for hippies.
  5. It’s no different than before. Drexel still can’t offer everything that Ohio State will. Before, it was 5 pairs of Nike shoes, a smoothie bar, and a hot tub that would be the boosters’ difference. Now, it’s all of that, and a cash percentage off every Wings Over sale that uses code RBY10 for 10% on your next Takeout order.
  6. That kid isn’t getting paid as much without their content being monetized on YouTube or Instagram. The value of Name, Image, and Likeness is about placement. Of course a Miami booster is only going to play that 5-star recruit if they play at Miami — the booster’s value is focused on Miami!
  7. He ended up just getting a finance degree at Clarion, actually. He got the Master’s in Music at Slippery Rock.
  8. That Bofa kid is starting to shine a bit. I think he could do it.
  9. I think Purdue’s shaping up to make a good run for first place this weekend.
  10. Could we define what it means to be living, too?? I’m not too sure that there’s enough people in Indiana with a heartbeat to field a full college wrestling team, and by contrast, I feel like folks in Wisconsin eat enough red meat to have two or three hearts in their chest. Should they be allowed to wrestle regular humans? Is that a human life they’re living?
  11. Love to see it! Amateur wrestling is tough on the body and the bank account. It says in the article that he's had MMA around him his whole life -- why not get into it after an honest go at the Olympics? He can still coach wrestling later on and will probably be heavily involved in wrestling still like every other wrestler that went that route.
  12. From a pretty good wrestling data analysis channel that I've seen pop up on my feed a few times:
  13. Saw Kyle Snyder pop up on a strength trainer channel that I follow today -- they focus on weightlifting & powerlifting, but have been diving into freak athletes in other sports this year. Pretty fitting first wrestler for the channel. While a lot of wrestlers are pretty strong, no one else on the current team really rings a bell for me when it comes to outright strength. Would love to see more training analysis for our national team members.
  14. I was cleaning out my HD this morning and stumbled upon some photos from last year's Matmen Open, which Willie was very kind to let me come photograph as a freelancer. I sent photos out to the wrestlers last year and didn't do anything else with them, but thought I could share them with the board to celebrate the beginning of the college season: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CqeXwZoV6-IyCxSk0YBQ9LFWdUTAUcGe?usp=share_link I wrote a bit about it that evening while I was editing photos at a bar between sessions. Unfortunately, I had to stay back home the next day because something came up, but it was great to be back around wrestling in the middle of the pandemic. Part of me wanted to give one last shot at being a wrestling journalist, but a bigger part of me just wanted to spend a day at another tournament. On Wrestling Tournaments That Are in the Middle of Nowhere
  15. First off - Good luck this season! Having been on both sides -- wrestling in the city, and coaching for a year after college in another city -- I think a lot of people said some good stuff already, but wanted to note something: While it is about teaching the sport of wrestling, don't think they can't win those state championships or AA's. I think the most important thing I brought with me as a coach was that I treated my athletes as if they'd win, and I was willing to go with them to whatever level was necessary for them, as they are, to win. Every other facet of life while growing up in the city has the approach of having to do more to be at the same level as everyone else, and that's no different when it comes to sports. The kids will put in the work if they have someone believing in the work that they're doing. It might mean taking some time in the off-season to coordinate rides to club practices, or fundraising for tournaments and bus fare, or even writing up an accessible diet & workout plan, but they'll do it!
