Alfred, N.Y. -- The Oswego State wrestling team improved to 3-8 on the season with a 30-15 victory over Alfred State on the road Tuesday night. Starting the night off right was Kevin Ramikshun winning a decision 10-6 at 125 lbs. Jonathan Ptacek followed suit with a decision of his own, winning 10-4 at the 133-pound weight class. Also winning be decisions a little later in the match were 174-pounder Sean Maloney (5-1) and 285-pounder Branden Jones (5-2). Three Lakers earned victories on the night in the form of a fall, including Tomas Garcia at 141, taking down his opponent at 5:53. Abubakarr Sow made it two-straight wins by pin at 4:40 in the 149-pound weight class. Wrapping up the wins on the night was Scott Bova. The 184-pound Bova pinned his opponent at 3:41 to give him a third-straight victory in that fashion. Oswego will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when Cortland comes to Max Ziel Gymnasium for the Lakers final home match of the season. UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University wrestling team was tested by the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University in their second OAC matchup of the 2013-14 season. The Berg picked up six wins and crucial bonus points to beat the Streaks, 23-18. 125-pounder Delian Schneider began the Berg's second OAC dual match of the year with a loss. The senior Student Prince fell by decision, 7-5 before sophomore Colin McDermitt stole back the lead. McDermitt scored a major decision, 10-0, at 133-pounds to move the Berg ahead, 4-3. Senior Ian Gillespie scored another shutout victory at 141-pounds to push the Tricolor ahead, 7-3. The Blue Streaks took a one-point lead with a technical fall, 22-7, over sophomore Damon Cheek at 149-pounds. John Carroll extended their advantage at 157-pounds as sophomore Aaron Banko went down to JCU's Turner Gott, who is currently ranked seventh by d3wrestle.com. At 165-pounds, transfer Myles Wright conceded a fall in 2:12 to move the Blue Streaks to an 11-point advantage, 18-7. After the 165-pound bout, the Student Princes would not surrender another team point. Junior Brennan Kelly collected a pivotal 10-9 decision at 174-pounds followed by a major decision from junior Richard Dowdley to bring the team score to 18-14. With the Berg in striking distance, a victory from Jason Russell and Nino Majoy were crucial to keep the Berg's OAC regular season title hopes alive. Russell gave the Berg their first lead since the 141-pound weight class with a dominant 15-0 technical fall at 197-pounds. Sophomore Nino Majoy sealed the match for the Berg grapplers and third year head coach Ned Shuck with a decisive 8-0 major decision in the heavyweight bout. The Student Princes will face their most difficult challenge on Tuesday, February 11, when they host the University of Mount Union. The Purple Raiders, who have six individuals ranked by d3wrestle.com, will travel to Tiffin undefeated, 1-0, as their match with Ohio Northern scheduled for this evening was postponed. As a team, the Purple Raiders are ranked tenth in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association while the Berg grapplers occupy 22nd. Varsity wrestling will begin at 7:30 p.m. from Seiberling Gymnasium next Tuesday.

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- No. 6-ranked Concordia won seven straight matches to finish off cross-town rival MSU Moorhead 28-7 and post their fourth straight win over the Dragons and fifth in the last six years. Concordia is now 14-4 in dual meets this year and continues to add to their school record for dual-meet wins in a season. The Cobbers fell behind 7-3 but then rattled off 25 unanswered points to beat NCAA Division II MSU Moorhead. CC posted five decision wins during their seven straight victories and had a major decision and a pin fall to finish off the annual dual meet. Senior Jake Long started the comeback journey by dominating his match at 149 and earning a 13-4 major decision. His win tied the match at 7-7 and set the aggressive tone for the rest of the match. No.7-ranked Long is now 21-7 on the season. Kyle LeDuc, Jake Krogstad and Sebastian Gardner all followed with eight-point win totals to push the lead to 16-7. LeDuc collected his 21st win by virtue of an 8-3 win while Krogstad continued his late-season success and clained an 8-4 victory to post his eighth win in the last 10 matches. Gardner joined the 20-win club with an 8-4 win and is now 5-1 in his last six matches. Chris Harrison backed up the eight-point trio by blanking his opponent 2-0 at 184. Like Gardner, Harrison has now won 20 matches on the season and gives the Cobbers five starters with at least 20 victories on the year. Delson Saintal and No.4-ranked Cody Kasprick closed out the match with convincing wins. Saintal scored an 11-4 victory at 197 to even his season record at 13-13 and Kasprick needed just 2-minutes to get the only pin fall of the night at 285. Kasprick is now 19-9 on the year and has won four straight matches by pin. The other win on the night for Concordia came at 133 where No.5-ranked Jacoby Bergeron earned his team-leading 22nd win of the year. Bergeron never trailed in his individual bout and is now 22-7 in 2013-14. COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College wrestling team defeated No. 10 Cumberland (Tenn.) University 25-10 Tuesday night at Biggers Sports Center. Lindsey Wilson improves to 9-4 in duals this season and 3-0 in the Mid-South, securing the Mid-South Conference title in the win. Cumberland falls to 12-10 on the year and 0-3 in the Mid-South with the loss. Before the match began, Jameel Bryant was presented with his 2013 NAIA National Championship Ring for winning the national title last season at 184 pounds. The match started at the 157 class, with top-ranked Joe Cozart pinning Gary Shockley in the third period to give Lindsey Wilson a 6-0 lead out of the gate. 14th-ranked Mitchell Judkins followed with an upset 2-1 decision over No. 12 Kirk Johnson at the 165 class when he was able to hold on and secure the ride-time win. No. 7 Ezekial Hunt got the Bulldogs on the board with a 2-1 decision over Erick Gomez at 174. The regular season for scholastic across the country is tapering down, and postseason state series competition is starting in some states. Tennessee crowns dual meet champions Already last weekend, we saw the crowning of a second set of state dual meet champions, those coming out of Tennessee. Winning the Division I (public-school) Class AAA title was Cleveland, champions in Division I Class A-AA were Pigeon Forge, and the champion in Division II (private school) was The Baylor School. Results Dual meet championships during the coming week In the week ahead, dual meet champions will be crowned in Delaware (Tuesday, Feb. 11), North Carolina (Saturday), Ohio (Saturday), and Pennsylvania (Thursday through Saturday). North Carolina The first two rounds of the 32-team North Carolina state dual meet tournaments were held yesterday, the next two rounds will be held tomorrow, and the championship is scheduled for Saturday. While in Class 1A, the first two rounds were held yesterday, the next round held tomorrow, and the championship scheduled for Saturday. Class 4A Bracket | Class 3A Bracket | Class 2A Bracket | Class 1A Bracket Pennsylvania Each district in the Keystone State held its dual meet championships last week to determine teams that would qualify for the state tournament this week. Then, between last night and Monday evening, four play-in matches were held in each division to fill out the 16-team fields that will compete in Hershey starting on Thursday. First round matches in Class AA (small-school) will take place at 2 and 4 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, while those in Class AAA (big school) are slated for 6 and 8. Competition will continue through the championship and consolation finals matches in each division at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. In the Class AAA competition, three nationally ranked teams appear in the top half of the draw: No. 37 Cumberland Valley, No. 41 Greater Latrobe, and No. 43 Boyertown. Cumberland Valley opens their tournament run with a round of 16 match against North Allegheny, a formidable team that won the Manheim Lions Holiday Tournament earlier this season. The winner of that bout is likely to face a Parkland squad, which lost to Nazareth in the District XI dual meet final Saturday evening on a criteria tiebreaker. In the second quarter of the draw, Greater Latrobe and Boyertown are likely to meet in the quarterfinal round. Looking at the lower half of the draw, there are two nationally ranked teams, No. 8 Franklin Regional and No. 26 Nazareth. The Panthers and Blue Eagles are strong favorites to advance to the semifinal round. Nominal challenges for each squad should come in the quarterfinal -- Franklin Regional will draw the winner of Erie McDowell vs. Central Dauphin, while Nazareth is likely to face Spring-Ford. The most likely outcome of the Class AAA tournament is that Franklin Regional wins its first state title in wrestling. In class AA, No. 13 Bethlehem Catholic is seeking to win a fourth consecutive state dual meet title, and the Hawks are prohibitively favored to do so. Bethlehem Catholic faces Lower Moreland in the opening round, and will then most likely face District 10 runner-up Fort LeBoeuf in the opening round, before a likely clash against either Burrell (District 7/WPIAL champions) or Brookville (District 9 champions). The lower half of the draw is anchored by District 10 champion Reynolds and District 3 champion Boiling Springs. Class AAA Bracket | Class AA Bracket Ohio The "big four" of Division I (big school) will wage battle for a state title, the first of two such battles to be held over the next month. Should each squad win their first round dual meet, the semifinals would place No. 7 Massillon Perry vs. No. 27 St. Edward, with No. 21 Brecksville vs. Cincinnati Moeller. Each dual meet should be tightly contested, with multiple matches in each dual meet having the potential to swing the outcome. However, the most likely scenario is that Massillon Perry's strength from 106-to-170 proves to be too much for St. Edward and the championship final opponent, as the Panthers will win their first-ever state title in wrestling. A pair of Fab 50 squads -- No. 5 St. Paris Graham and No. 31 Claymont -- holds the top two seeds in the Division II competition. These two teams met in the state dual meet final last year, with St. Paris Graham winning eight weight classes in a 36-24 victory. Look for a similar type of outcome in this year's dual meet, with multiple matches between state title and placement contenders throughout the dual meet. Keep in mind that Claymont could be challenged in the semifinal round by Perry, who was runner-up in last year's Division II individual state tournament; but it is likely the Mustangs will prevail, as they did when the teams met in last year's first round (by a 36-22 score). Defending team state champions Delta, who are ranked No. 48 nationally, are favored to repeat in the Division III (small-school) competition. The Panthers have eleven wrestlers ranked in the top 16 of their weight class within Division III, which gives them an overwhelming advantage in terms of depth. The only team that can possibly challenge them is Dayton Christian, which has seven ranked wrestlers, and those squads should meet in the state final. Brackets Garden State battles continue Three more dual meets involving nationally ranked teams happened this past week in New Jersey. On Friday night, No. 24 Don Bosco Prep hosted No. 9 Bergen Catholic in their annual rivalry dual meet. It was a tightly contested dual meet through ten bouts, when the teams had split five matches apiece (Bergen Catholic holding a 19-18 lead), before four consecutive decisions would provide the final margin in a 31-18 victory for the Crusaders. Results Starting in the 152-pound weight class, Bergen Catholic won the first four matches of the dual meet. This included a 2-1 upset victory at 170 pounds for Kevin Mulligan against Luke Farinaro, who was nationally ranked at the time; the string for four matches ended with a pin from No. 1 Johnny Sebastian at 182 pounds, which gave the Crusaders a 15-0 lead. Don Bosco Prep responded with four consecutive victories of their own, starting with a pin from freshman Eric Chakonis against Danny DeLorenzi in 3:49 at 195 pounds. After the 3-0 victory from fellow freshman Evan Deluise at 106 pounds, the dual meet was tied 15-15. Bergen Catholic would stem that tide with a 14-3 major decision from No. 2 Nick Suriano at 113 pounds, which was countered by a 5-2 decision from Dominick Mandarino at 120 pounds for the Ironmen. Three wins for Bergen Catholic in what could be characterized as swing matches would clinch the dual meet before the evening's final bout. State placer Peter Lipari upended returning state runner-up Kyle Bierdumpfel 5-3, state qualifier J.P. Ascolese beat state champion Luis Gonzalez 4-0, and Lauren Angelhina upended Sam Cali 5-3 in a battle of state qualifiers. Bergen Catholic had to turn around and travel to No. 1 Blair Academy for a Saturday evening dual meet, which turned mostly into an unmitigated disaster for the Crusaders. Then again, for most teams facing Blair Academy this year, that was the outcome. The No. 1 team in the nation earned a 55-10 victory, as Blair Academy scored winning outcomes in twelve bouts. Results Notable outcomes in the match were that Bergen Catholic forfeited three matches due to personnel being injured, and No. 1 in the nation Johnny Sebastian had to injury default during the course of his match at 182 pounds; Sebastian held a 2-1 lead over Nick DiNapoli late in the first period prior to the match being terminated. Finally, Blair Academy won a pair of one point decisions in the last two matches of the evening: Neil Putnam upended Christian Jenco 5-4 at 220 pounds, and Will Cooley beat Joe Caggiano 6-5 in the ultimate tiebreaker at 285. Also on Saturday, this one during the afternoon, No. 20 Bound Brook traveled to No. 25 St. Peter's Prep. Like in their meeting at the Clash in early January, the two squads split the 14 weight class bouts, but this go around it was the visiting Crusaders who earned a 33-30 victory. Results The dual meet opened with the host Marauders taking a 9-0 lead, as Nicholas Santos (113) scored a 7-4 decision and Michael Kelley (120) secured a pin in 2:04. However, Bound Brook countered with a pin and decision of their own; state champion Craig de la Cruz (126) with the pin in 1:20, and freshman Mekhi Lewis (132) scoring a 3-0 decision. St. Peter's Prep was quick to respond with three more victories to make it a 21-9 lead. Those came from a 5-3 decision for Connor Burkert (138), a pin in 1:02 for Ryan Burkert (145), and a 4-2 decision for Manny Ramirez (152). Three consecutive six-point outcomes for Bound Brook would give the Crusaders a 27-21 lead, which would hold up through the end of the dual meet. Pins for Josh Ugalde (160) and Isaiah Soto (182) were sandwiched by a forfeit from Ryan Doerr (170). It was then three swing upper-weight bouts that decided the ultimate outcome of the dual meet, Bound Brook winning two of them to clinch the dual meet prior to the final bout. Christian Colucci of St. Peter's Prep cut the deficit to 27-24 with a 3-1 decision over Ronald Picado at 195. Bound Brook would then get victories from Aaron Saavedra and Stephen Johnson at 220 and 285; Saavedra upended state placer Jordan Fox 6-4, while state placer Johnson beat Armond Cox 3-2. Clovis stretches string of dominance to 82 One week ago tonight, it was a big event as No. 4 Clovis, Calif., hosted No. 34 Buchanan, Calif. The conference dual meet drew a sold out crowd of about 2,000 fans, was wrestled on the Fresno State mat, and drew the presence of the Fresno State University president. However, the match itself was anti-climactic as the host Cougars extended their streak of in-state dual meet victories to 82 in a 39-14 victory. Results The match did not start out well for the visiting Bears, as Clovis state qualifiers Josh Hokit (160) and Brody Brand (170) opened with a 5-3 decision and 11-3 major decision. After Buchanan countered with a 4-3 decision victory from Young An at 182 pounds, Matt Weiss took a forfeit for Clovis to extend the lead to 13-3. While Kai Dill was able to earn a 7-4 victory for Buchanan at 220, which cut the deficit to 13-6, the pair of nationally ranked wrestlers for the Cougars pushed the lead to 25-6. No. 1 Nick Nevills scored a pin during the second period at 285, and No. 5 Justin Mejia scored the pin late in the first period. State placer Durbin Lloren would stem the tide for Buchanan with a 3-1 decision at 113 pounds, which cut the deficit to 25-9 with six bouts remaining. Three consecutive victories for Clovis would clinch the dual meet. Those came in the form of a 4-2 decision for Julian Gaytan (120), a 9-4 decision for Khristian Olivas (126), and an 8-0 major decision for Isaiah Hokit (132). Quick bits This coming weekend happens to be the Class 4A (big school) state tournament in Alaska. Brackets No. 1 Blair Academy, N.J., plays host to No. 20 Bound Brook, N.J., in a Friday night dual meet at 7 p.m. to close out their dual meet campaign in 2014.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Stanford wrestling team notched two wins in the state of Arizona, Monday, defeating Grand Canyon (26-6) and Pac-12 foe Arizona State (22-10). The Cardinal improves to 15-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Antelopes drop to 11-5 on the year, while the Sun Devils fall to 6-7 and 1-1 in the Pac-12. Stanford’s 15 duals wins on the year ties the school record, set by the 1974-75 Cardinal. With three duals remaining on the 2013-14 schedule, this year’s squad will have a chance to break that mark. Stanford opened the day in Phoenix with a 26-6 win at Grand Canyon. The Cardinal won eight of the 10 bouts with redshirt senior Ryan Mango (133 pounds) and redshirt freshman Jim Wilson (165 pounds) scoring bonus points. True freshman Tommy Pawelski put the Cardinal on top with a 4-1 decision over Grand Canyon’s A.J. Salazar at 125 pounds. He scored a takedown in the first period and one in the third to secure his 19th win of the year and moves to 5-4 in duals. Mango, ranked 10th nationally, notched his first major decision of the day, defeating Lino Estrada 18-5. Leading 5-3 going into the final period, Mango registered three takedowns, five near fall points, an escape and riding time for his 21st win of the year. Grand Canyon posted wins at 141 and 149 pounds to cut the Stanford lead to 7-6 after four bouts. Redshirt freshman Peter Galli turned things around for the Cardinal with a 5-2 decision over Bryant Wood at 157 pounds. Trailing 2-1 going into the third period, Galli chose to start in the down position. After scoring an escape, he tacked on a takedown and secured riding time for his 10th win of the year. Wilson collected his fifth major decision of the season with an 11-1 win over Juan Carlos Maynes. Wilson scored a first-period takedown and recorded two near fall points for the early lead. After Maynes chose to start the second period, Wilson turned him for three near fall points to add to his lead. He finished him off with an escape, a takedown and riding time. At 174 pounds, senior Kyle Meyer held off Martin Fabbian with a 2-0 decision. There was no score in the first period and Meyer rode Fabbian for the entire second period. He scored an escape in the third and finished with riding time in his favor to collect his 20th win of the season. Redshirt freshman Zach Nevills tallied his 15th win of the year with a 7-2 decision against Grand Canyon’s Austin Guan. Nevills scored a takedown in the first period and turned Guan for two near fall points in the second to take a 4-0 advantage. Choosing to start in the down position in the third, Nevills scored an escape early, but gave up a takedown in the period. Senior 197-pounder Dan Scherer, who is ranked 19th nationally, shut out Marcus Haughian 3-0 to improve to 16-3 on the year and 11-2 in duals. He registered a reversal in the second period and locked up riding time in the victory. Redshirt freshman Josh Marchok finished things off for the Cardinal in the dual’s most exciting bout at heavyweight. The Schaumberg, Ill., native scored a takedown in overtime to defeat Peter Anguiano 8-6. Marchok improved to 15-9 on the year and 12-5 in duals. Against the Sun Devils on the Pac-12 Networks, Stanford captured wins in seven of 10 bouts to knock off the eighth team this season that bested the Cardinal a year ago. Sophomore Evan Silver recorded his 18th win of the year with a 3-2 decision over Ares Carpio at 125 pounds. The Chevy Chase, Md., native recorded a first period takedown and an escape in the third to seal the win. He then tallied a takedown to tie the score and finished Waters off with three near fall points. Meyer moves to 21-10 on the year and 12-4 in duals. The Sun Devils scored their final points of the dual at 184 pounds, where Blake Stauffer posted a 10-2 major decision against Nevills. Scherer then sealed the dual win for the Cardinal with a 6-4 decision against Josh DaSilveria at 197 pounds. Tied 4-4 in the third period, Scherer scored the escape and finished with 1:11 of riding time to notch his 17th win of the year. In the final bout of the night, Marchok again needed extra time to record the win, defeating Chace Eskam 7-5 in sudden victory. Down 4-3 in the third period, Marchok was awarded one point for stalling on Eskam. After an escape by Eskam, Marchok again tallied a point due to stalling by ASU to force the extra period. It didn’t take long as Marchok registered a takedown in 13 seconds to end the match. Stanford remains on the road, travelling to San Luis Obispo, Calif., Sunday, Feb. 9 for duals against South Dakota State and Cal Poly. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- After dropping five of its six opening bouts at No. 24 Purdue Monday night, the 12th ranked Ohio State wrestling team won its final four matches via decisions to edge the Boilermakers, 16-15, at Holloway Gymnasium in West Lafayette, Ind. Ohio State improves to 8-4 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten, while Purdue drops to 6-6 overall and 1-6 in the league. Redshirt-junior and third-ranked Logan Stieber's major decision victory vs. Danny Sabatello at 141 pounds proved to be the difference maker as both teams won five matches on the night. The only wrestler to score bonus points for either team, Stieber jumped out to a 6-0 lead on a pair of takedowns and a 2-point nearfall after the first period. With both wrestlers in the neutral position to start the second period, Stieber once again took Sabatello down and turned the Boilermaker on his back for 3 back points. By the end of the third period, Stieber had scored an escape and accrued riding time. Joining Stieber in the win column was No. 14 Mark Martin (174 pounds), No. 10 Kenny Courts (184 pounds), No. 8 Nick Heflin (197 pounds) and Nick Tavanello (HWT). With Ohio State trailing Purdue, 15-4, Martin, a redshirt-sophomore began the Buckeye rally with his 5-4 decision vs. Patrick Kissel. Six wrestlers currently ranked No. 1 in the country according to InterMat have been selected to be a part of Team USA for the 2014 Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic. The event, which will celebrate its 40th edition this year, will be held on Sunday, March 16 in Pittsburgh at the Fitzgerald Field House on the University of Pittsburgh campus. Wrestling begins at 4 p.m. with an undercard bout between top seniors from Oklahoma and top seniors from the WPIAL (i.e. those from the greater Pittsburgh area not chosen for team Pennsylvania), and will be followed at 6 p.m. by Team USA against the top seniors from Pennsylvania. Kyle Snyder (Good Counsel, Md./USOTC) leads Team USA. Even though he is not competing scholastically during the 2013-14 year, he is the nation's No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2014, and was undefeated during three years of high school competition. The resume includes three titles at the Beast of the East and National Preps, two titles at the Ironman, and single titles at the Powerade and Super 32 Challenge. Snyder was also a FILA Junior World freestyle champion this summer, and will be attending The Ohio State University this coming fall. He is the representative at 220 pounds. The 20th-ranked University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team won six of the eight contested matches in a dominating 35-8 victory over Appalachian State today. The Mocs improve to 13-5 overall and 4-0 in Southern Conference action, while the Mountaineers drop to 4-8 and 1-3 in league duals. The match was almost over before it started, with ASU missing a number of starters. The Mountaineers had to forfeit at 133 and 174 due to injuries. “It was a good result today, but I think our performance was flat,” stated head coach Heath Eslinger. “We definitely have some things to work on for next weekend. It is good to not wrestle well and still get a 35-8 win, I just think today was the first time in the last 12 matches was have looked flat.” Action began at 184 with sophomore John Lampe taking on junior Nick Vetell. Vetell was the aggressor from the start, scoring two takedowns and a 4-2 lead after the first period. Lampe kept Vetell down throughout the second period, erasing the riding time advantage. Lampe escaped early in the third and scored the winning takedown with 25 second left. Lampe improved to 14-8 overall with the win. He also kept his SoCon slate clean at 4-0 with his second-straight one-point win. Freshman Scottie Boykin also remained undefeated in SoCon action with his 9-0 major decision over Tyler Radford at 197. Boykin is now 17-11 overall and 4-0 in the SoCon. It was his third major decision in league duals, but the first time he did not score at least 10 points. Freshman heavyweight Dawson Peck put the Mocs up 12-0 with his second period technical fall over Denzel Dejournette. Peck improved to 7-1 since transferring to Chattanooga from Virginia Tech in January. Appalachian State got on the board at 125 with Vito Pasone’s tech fall against Campbell Lewis. The forfeit at 133 moved the team score to 18-5. Another App State win at 141 closed the gap to 18-8, but that was the last points for the Mountaineers. Freshman Austin Sams picked up a nice 3-1 decision over senior Aaron Scott at 149. UTC’s lone senior in the lineup, Alex Hudson, went out in style with a second period technical fall against sophomore Nick Hall. Ninth-ranked junior Corey Mock posted a win at 165 and Chattanooga benefitted from the other forfeit at 174 to end the match. A nice crowd of 640 were on hand for Senior Day. Hudson and Trey Stavrum were honored before the match in the last home appearance of their careers. UTC’s 13 wins are the most in one season in the Eslinger era and the most since the Mocs went 16-1 in 2007. UTC will be on the road for the rest of the season, beginning next week at Campbell and Davidson. Two wins next week can wrap up at least a share of the SoCon regular season title. NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion's Brandon Jeske, Chris Mecate, Tristan Warner and Billy Curling all defeated top-17 nationally ranked opponents to help ODU defeat Central Michigan 24-7 Sunday afternoon. Carrying a six-point advantage after 149 pounds, Old Dominion gutted out two last minute wins at 157 and 174 pounds to pull away from Central Michigan at the Ted Constant Center. "We wrestled extremely well today," said ODU head coach Steve Martin. "Pretty much everyone was clicking. It is what we've been looking for all year. Jeske, Mecate, Warner and Curling all beat nationally ranked opponents. We started at 125, Brandon wrestled very well. 141, Chris Mecate ranked fifth in the country beat the number nine kid, Zach Horan, who was another tough opponent. At 149, Lenny Richardson beat his guy almost in a pin position, where it was pretty close. At 157, Tristan had two great wins over the weekend. Billy Curling beat the number eight ranked kid in the country. One thing about Billy is that he wrestles hard every match. We joined the MAC so we could get this tough competition. Our kids wrestled very hard and we are proud of them." The match started at 125 pounds where Brandon Jeske gave the Monarchs the start they needed. Jeske delivered a near fall, which earned three points and scored a takedown to secure riding time and earn a 7-1 decision victory over No. 12-ranked Corey Keener. Jeske is 15-10 and 2-0 in the MAC this season. At 141 pounds, No. 5-ranked Chris Mecate scored a first period takedown and earned riding time to win 4-2 against No. 10-ranked Zach Horan. Mecate is 22-6 and 4-1 this season in the MAC. ODU Sophomore and No. 20-ranked Alexander Richardson (149) followed with a first period takedown and a second period near fall to earn a 5-2 decision win against Scott Mattingly to give the Monarchs a 9-3 team lead. Monarchs 174-pounder Billy Curling continued the excitement with a last second takedown to score him a 5-4 decision win against No. 8-ranked Mike Ottinger. Curling is 12-7 and 4-1 in the MAC. Redshirt freshmen Jack Dechow (184) and Kevin Beazley (197) helped Old Dominion secure the team win with decision victories of their own. Dechow defeated Craig Kelliher by a 7-3 decision and Beazley scored a sudden victory takedown to win his match by a 3-1 decision. Dechow is 12-3 and a perfect 3-0 in the MAC, while Beazley improves to 15-10 and 2-3 in the conference. Matt Tourdot (285) closed out the match for the Monarchs with a takedown and escape to earn him the 3-1 decision win over CMU's Adam Robinson. Tourdot is 12-11 and improves to 2-2 in conference play. MADISON, Wis.-- Scott Liegel’s upset victory over No. 11 Hayden Zillmer at 174 lbs., and a handful of bonus-point victories in the early goings were enough to hold off a late push from No. 21 North Dakota State (7-4 overall) Sunday afternoon at the UW Field House to give the 15th-ranked Wisconsin wrestling team (12-4) a 23-17 win. With the win, the Badgers hit the 12-win mark for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign and now have five wins over ranked opponents this season. Liegel’s 3-2 win over Zillmer was his first win over a ranked opponent in six tries, improving his overall record to 16-8. After Zillmer notched an escape point in the second period, Liegel recorded a takedown less than 30 seconds into the third to gain a 2-1 lead. Zillmer escaped just 15 seconds later to tie things up before he was called for his second stall warning with just 23 seconds left to give Liegel the match-winning point. “He (Scott Liegel) has had so many chances to win matches like that,” Wisconsin head coach Barry Davis said. “He finally did it, which is good. Hopefully he has turned the corner now. He has been working and training. Hopefully that put him over the hump and he can build for Big Ten’s.” Liegel’s win proved vital, as Jackson Hein lost a tight decision, 4-3, to No. 19 Kurtis Julson at 184 lbs., and Timmy McCall was pinned after a back-and-forth first period by Tyler Lehmann at 197 lbs., to pull the Bison within two, 19-17, with just the heavyweight match remaining. No. 10 Connor Medbery then battled with NDSU’s Evan Knutson. The score remained even for most of two periods before Medbery rattled off a quick four points within a 10-second timeframe. We’ll talk to the guys about what to expect, what they are going to do. VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton wrestling used four straight wins to rally past fellow EIWA member Boston University (3-8) 23-18 Sunday at West Gym. The Bearcats (4-10) trailed 15-4 halfway through the match before two pins and a major decision fueled the comeback. Four of Binghamton’s five match wins produced bonus points. “The guys really stepped up today,” head coach Matt Dernlan said. “We’ve been in similar situations lately but have come up short. We knew it was looking like a 5-5 match split so bonus points were going to be critical. It was a great effort and the guys have earned this by believing and pushing forward. Now we want to keep building this momentum.” Junior 184-pound Caleb Wallace (12-11, 6-8 duals) got things going with a third-period pin. Wallace was in control and racking up points toward a major decision when he threw Aaron Conrad to his back and ended the bout at 5:58. Senior 197-pound Cody Reed (21-8 overall, 11-3 duals) followed with a commanding 21-9 major decision that featured back points in the third period. Reed’s win extended his win streak to eight and brought the Bearcats to within one, 15-14. Junior heavyweight Tyler Deuel kept the momentum going with his team-high ninth pin of the season. He led 3-1 toward the end of the second period when he locked up a cradle on Kevin Innis near the edge of the mat and ended the bout with six seconds left in the period. “Tyler has put in the work and is now reaping the benefits,” Dernlan said of his heavyweight, who has ended 14 bouts this season by tech fall or fall. His five tech falls is the most of any 285-pounder in the country. Deuel, ranked 31st in the first NCAA Coaches’ Panel Rankings, won his 11th straight dual match and raised his record to 23-5 overall, 12-2 in duals. Those six points gave Binghamton a 20-15 lead and junior 125-pound David White (20-7 overall, 10-4 duals) clinched the win with a hard-fought 9-6 decision over Tyler McGinley. White, ranked No. 32, was knotted at 6-6 and giving up riding time before escaping to start the third. He then scored the deciding takedown with 36 seconds left and finished on top to erase riding time. Nationally ranked Fox Baldwin (Osceola, Fla.) gave a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia. Baldwin, ranked No. 8 at 152 pounds, is a three-time state champion. He recently set the national record for pins in a high school wrestling career. He wrote the following in an email.My dad and I had a plan to find the right university for me. That plan was to build a relationship with the coaches, visit the universities then in the fall go on my five official visits and then sign in November. There were several great universities that I had been building relationships with. Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Virginia Tech, Duke, Penn State, Missouri all had great programs that I was calling and emailing the coaches and building that important relationship. There were more colleges that I was starting to correspond with Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Lehigh, Nebraska, Brown, where all great options. What made my decision so tough was the coaches were not allowed to call me or invite me on an official visit until the fall of my senior year. My first goal was to surround myself with coaches, teammates and people who share the same beliefs. I have been very blessed to always have that support system my whole life. A big part of my success is from all of the people who encourage, support and pray for me. Without Jesus and my support team I would not have had near the success that I have had. My second goal was to find the university that will provide me with education and tools to be prepared for my career and life after wrestling. I want to help this country that I love (part of what drives me to win an Olympic gold medal). I want to become servant of this country and serve the people as a lawmaker and lead this country as our President. My third goal was to find the university that will give me the best opportunity to become a four-time NCAA national champion and Olympic gold medalist. After many, many hours of prayer and talking to my support team I had made the decision. My father wanted me to wait to be certain and take my visits. However I knew I had made up my mind. I felt it was not fair to all the great coaches and programs to let them think I was still interested when my mind was a 100% sure where I must go. It was not fair to all the hard working and deserving wrestlers that a university may be holding back with another recruit because of me. I could not be selfish like that. I love the opportunity to be a pioneer, to pave the way for others and to set records. The decision was clear. Although there has never been a President of the United States that has attend the University of Virginia. The University of Virginia has everything in an education, tradition, location and connections to produce their first and the best President ever. The University of Virginia has never had a NCAA national champion in wrestling. The University of Virginia has everything needed great coaches, great facilities, university support, fan support for me to become a four-time NCAA national champion. I know that the University of Virginia will provide me with support and do anything they can to help me bring a gold medal home in the 2020 Olympics that we just saved! I want to thank my support team for helping me to get where I am and to where I am going. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The top-ranked Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team handled No. 11 Michigan 32-9 in a Super Bowl Sunday showdown live on the Big Ten Network Sunday, in a battle between the conference's final two unbeaten teams. By virtue of the win, Penn State clinched at least a share of the 2014 Big Ten regular season title, riding three straight technical falls to a lop-sided win. Head coach Cael Sanderson's crew won eight of ten bouts in the victory. With two-time All-American Nico Megaludis (Murrysville, Pa.), ranked No. 2 at 125, not making the weekend trip due to illness, sophomore Jordan Conaway (Abbottstown, Pa.) got the nod at 125 and controlled Conor Youtsey for a strong 9-4 win. 16th-ranked Jimmy Gulibon (Latrobe, Pa.) then silenced a raucous sell-out crowd with a strong 9-0 major over Rossi Bruno at 133. True freshman Zain Retherford (Benton, Pa.), ranked No. 2 at 141, remained unbeaten with a dominating 7-1 win over No. 13 Steve Dutton, rolling up 2:20 in riding time in the process and putting Penn State up 10-0 At 149, junior Andrew Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.) nearly pulled off an upset of No. 7 Eric Grajales. Alton bolted out to an 8-5 lead and led by two late. But a last second Grajales takedown ended with a Michigan fall at the 6:56 mark, briefly cutting into Penn State's lead. But All-American Dylan Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.), ranked No. 4 at 157, responded in fine fashion with a thrilling 3-1 (SV2) decision over No. 14 Brian Murphy, sending Penn State into halftime with a 13-6 lead. Conaway took on Wolverine freshman Conor Youtsey. The duo battled evenly for over two minutes with neither man finding an opening to score. Conaway got in on a single leg with :40 on the clock and finished off the takedown with :28 left. Youtsey quickly reversed the Lion and then rode Conaway out to send the match to the second tied 2-2. Youtsey chose down to start the second period and escaped to a 3-2 lead with 1:40 on the clock. The Wolverine worked to control Conaway's shoulders for the first minute with Conaway able to force a stalemate at the :40 mark. Conaway then rolled through another high shot and forced a scramble with :30 left. He then finished off the takedown and led 4-3 after a short ride out. Conaway chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 5-3 lead. Youtsey shot quickly and Conaway backed out of reach, holding his 5-3 lead at the 1:30 mark. Conaway once again gained control of Youtsey on a low single and steadily worked his way to a takedown with :52 on the clock. Leading 7-3, Conaway controlled the Wolverine until the :20 mark. Continuing with his offense, Conaway tacked on one more takedown to post the strong 9-4 win. 133: Red-shirt freshman Jimmy Gulibon (Latrobe, Pa.), ranked No. 16 at 133, met sophomore Rossi Bruno. Gulibon stalked the middle of the mat, looking to control the pace during the early going. The Lion freshman connected on a swift low single for a takedown and a 2-0 lead at the 1:23 mark. Gulibon then broke Bruno down and controlled the action from the top position for over a minute, looking for a chance to turn the Wolverine for back points. Gulibon rode Bruno out and led 2-0 after one. Gulibon chose down to start the second stanza and quickly escaped to a 3-0 lead. Gulibon deftly countered a Bruno throw attempt, took the Wolverine to his back and with the five-point move led 8-0 at the 1:21 mark. Gulibon was again strong on top building up over 2:00 in riding time and nearly turning him for more back points. Gulibon forced Bruno into a stall warning and carried the 8-0 lead into the third. Bruno chose neutral to start the third but Gulibon was relentless on offense. The Lion freshman forced the temp throughout and nearly notched another takedown with :56 on the clock. With the riding time point clinched, Gulibon worked the middle of the mat for the rest of the period and posted a convincing 9-0 major with 2:48 in riding time. 141: True freshman Zain Retherford (Benton, Pa.), ranked No. 2 at 141, faced off with No. 13 Steve Dutton of Michigan. Retherford drew first blood with a low single to takedown at the 1:48 mark. The Nittany Lion freshman then controlled the action from the top position, breaking Dutton down and working up a solid riding time edge while trying to turn the Wolverine junior. Retherford's strong work on top kept Dutton's belly on the mat and the Lion led 2-0 with 1:48 in riding time after one. Retherford chose down to start the second period and steadily worked his way to a text-book reversal and a 4-0 lead with 1:10 on the clock. His work up top forced Dutton into a stall warning with :40 left in the period. Another dominant ride out gave Retherford a 4-0 lead with 2:08 in time. Dutton chose neutral to start the third period and Retherford quickly took him down for a 6-1 lead after cutting him loose. Looking for a major, Retherford pressured the Wolverine and nearly notched the takedown but time ran out. 2:20 in riding time gave the unbeaten Nittany Lion a 7-1 win and put Penn State up 10-0. 149: Junior Andrew Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.) met No. 7 Eric Grajales at 149. Alton scored quickly, turning shoulder control into a takedown and a 2-0 lead at the 2:32 mark. Alton nearly turned the Wolverine for two back points but Grajales was able to keep his shoulders off the mat. The Lion junior was undaunted though, controlling Grajales' shoulders and taking him to the mat for a takedown and two near fall points, upping his lead to 6-2 with 1:00 on the clock. Alton appeared to take Grajales down but the move was not counted. Penn State called for a review and the takedown was given, putting Alton up 8-2 with :03 left in the first. Grajales chose down to start the second and quickly escaped to an 8-3 score. Grajales notched his first takedown with :48 left in the period. He worked to turn Alton for back points but the Lion junior was able to keep parallel. Grajales rode Alton out and led 8-5 after two. The third period was a furious display with Grajales taking down and escaping quickly. He took Alton down twice and picked up a stall point as well. Alton countered with a takedown of his own but Grajales picked up another stall point to tie the bout at 12-12. With just :10 left, Grajales took Alton to his back on the edge of the mat and got the pin at the 6:56 mark. 157: Junior Dylan Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.), ranked No. 4 at 157, took on No.14 Brian Murphy of Michigan. The duo battled evenly for the opening minute until Alton gained control of Murphy's right ankle. He worked to pull the Wolverine into the center of the mat but could not finish off the takedown and Murphy escaped out of bounds with :50 on the clock. The match moved into the second scoreless and Murphy chose down to start the second. A quick escape gave the Wolverine a 1-0 lead and action resumed in the center circle at the 1:40 mark. Alton and Murphy traded shots for the next minute-plus with neither man breaking through the other's defense. Trailing 1-0, Alton chose down to start the third and quickly escaped to a 1-1 tie. With each wrestler looking for a chance to score, the battle moved into the final minute of the period knotted at 1-1. Alton shot low on Murphy, gaining control of his ankle and forcing a scramble that nearly ended in a takedown. But time ran out and the bout moved into extra time. Each wrestler took slight shots at the :30 mark but neither found their marks and a reset was called with :20 left. With neither man scoring, the bout moved into the first tie-breaker. Alton chose down for the first time breaker and nearly reversed Murphy. But the Wolverine was able to maintain control and rode Alton out. Murphy then took down nearly reversed Alton, but the official waved off the reversal call. Michigan called for a video review and Murphy took an injury timeout. The review was held up, the score stayed 1-1 and Alton chose down at the reset with :08 on the clock. Alton was unable to escape and the bout moved into a second sudden victory period. Alton gained control of Murphy this time and worked the Wolverine to the mat for a takedown just :20 into the second extra minute, posting the 3-1 (sv2) decision. 165: Senior David Taylor (St. Paris, Ohio), the top-ranked grappler in the nation at 165, met No. 6 Dan Yates. Taylor quickly tripped Yates to the mat at the 2:30 mark, taking the Wolverine senior down to lead 2-0 early. The Lion senior then controlled the Wolverines for :52 before Yates escaped only to be taken down again and Taylor worked up a 1:30 riding time edge. Yates escaped, Taylor took him down a third time and then turned him to his back for three near fall points and a 9-2 lead after one. Yates chose down and Taylor continued to add to over 2:00 in riding time. Taylor dominated the action from the top, turning Yates for two more back points and an 11-2 lead. Taylor added a three-point near fall and led 14-2 with :40 on the clock. The Lion senior added another two point near fall and led 16-2 after two period with a clinched riding time point. Taylor chose down to start the third and quickly escaped to a 17-2 technical fall at the 5:17 mark. 174: Junior Matt Brown (West Valley City, Utah), ranked No. 3 at 174, faced off with Wolverine junior Collin Zeerip. Brown scored right off the opening whistle, using a low single to take Zeerip down for a 2-1 lead early. He then took Zeerip down a second time to up his lead to 4-1 and built up a solid riding time edge while forcing Zeerip into a first stall warning. Brown cut the Wolverine loose, quickly blew through another takedown and led 6-2 at the 1:02 mark. Brown clinched up a cradle, turned the Wolverine to his back and led 9-2 with :30 on the clock. Brown cut Zeerip loose with :20, immediately turned into him and took him down once more with :08 on the clock. Leading 11-3, Brown chose down to start the second period and steadily worked his way into a reversal and a 13-3 lead with 1:30 on the clock. Brown titled Zeerip for two more back points before cutting him loose to a 15-4 score. The Lion junior continued his offensive prowess, notching another takedown with :15 left, cutting him loose and adding another takedown at the buzzer to lead 19-5 with 2:38 in time. Zeerip chose down to start the third period, was cut loose by Brown and then taken down for a 21-6 technical fall at the 5:35 mark. 184: Senior Ed Ruth (Harrisburg, Pa.), ranked No. 2 at 184, took on No. 20 Domenic Abounader. Ruth came out quickly, looking for an early takedown and nearly scoring in just seconds. But Abounader was able to step back and keep Ruth from scoring on shot number one. Ruth then connected on shot number two, a swift low double to give him a 2-0 lead with 2:20 on the clock. Ruth cut the Wolverine loose and took him down quickly afterwards to lead 4-1 at the midway point of the opening period. After an Abounader escape, Ruth notched takedown number three and then built his riding time point up over 1:00 with a strong ride. Ruth chose down to start the second period and deftly reversed the young Wolverine to up his lead to 8-2 less than :30 into the middle stanza. He then controlled Abounader's wrist, turned him to his back for three near fall points and led 11-2 with :55 on the clock. The Lion senior worked to lock up a cradle and turned Abounader for three more back points to lead 14-2 after two. Abounader chose down to start the third period. But Ruth was relentless, working wrist control into three more back points and a 17-2 tech fall at the 5:39 mark. 197: Sophomore Morgan McIntosh (Santa Ana, Calif.), ranked No. 7 at 197, took on Chris Heald. McIntosh scored first, taking Heald down early and cutting him loose to a 2-1 lead with 1:50 on the clock. The Lion added a second takedown just seconds later and built up :56 in time before Heald escaped to a 4-2 score. McIntosh almost scored again as the period wound down but time ran out and the Lion led 4-2 after one. Heald chose down to start the second period and McIntosh built his riding time up over 1:00. McIntosh dominated the action from the top, turning Heald over for three near fall points and a 7-2 lead with :45 on the clock. McIntosh maintained control for the rest of the period and, while not getting more back points, led 7-2 with 2:56 in time after two. McIntosh answered with a reversal and, with 3:23 in riding time, rolled to the 17-7 major. 285: Junior Jon Gingrich (Wingate, Pa.) battled second-ranked Wolverine Adam Coon at 285. The duo battled evenly for a minute with Coon forcing the action early. The second-ranked Wolverine forced Gingrich into a first stall at the 1:42 mark. Neither wrestler was able to find an opening and the bout moved to the second period tied 0-0. Gingrich chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 1-0 lead. Coon looked to control the action up top and Gingrich tried to connect on high singles, but neither wrestler was able to break free and the Lion held his 1-0 lead at the 1:00 mark. Gingrich got hit for stalling at the :40 mark and the bout was tied 1-1. With the match tied 1-1, Coon chose down to start the third period and quickly escaped to a 2-1 lead. The duo battled evenly for the next minute with Gingrich upping his tempo down the stretch. The Lion junior worked for an opening but Coon's was able to step back out of trouble each time. With :30 on the clock, Gingrich worked a high double, looking to grab a win, but Coon was able to fight off the move and force a stalemate with :05 on the clock. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The No. 13 Virginia wrestling team won at seven of 10 weight classes to earn a 29-12 victory over Bucknell Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium. Coming off a win Friday night over Maryland, Virginia upped its dual record to 15-3 on the season. “This weekend was very intense and crazy,” Virginia head coach Steve Garland said. “Our guys fought hard. We made some technical mistakes this weekend and we saw a lot of things that we need to get better at, but I was really pleased with our guys’ fight and commitment out there. That wasn’t a problem. I just thought we made some silly mistakes that we don’t typically make. That’s a lot easier to approach as a coach. You can’t fix heart, and I’m proud of my guys’ heart this weekend.” Joseph Martinez (R-So., Platteville, Colo.), Joe Spisak (R-Jr., Boiling Springs, Pa.), Blaise Butler (R-So., Belvidere, Ill.), Nick Sulzer (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio), Stephen Doty (R-Sr., St. Louis, Mo.), James Suvak (R-Fr., Parma Heights, Ohio) and Zach Nye (R-So., Enola, Pa.) each picked up wins for UVa. Spisak and Doty pinned their foes, while Sulzer and Butler both won by major decision. Martinez knotted the score by controlling throughout in a 5-0 decision at 133; he piled up 4:05 in riding time as he dominated from the top. UVa quickly took the lead for good at 141 as Spisak, ranked 15th nationally, needed just 27 seconds to put Connor Lapresi on his back and stick him for the pin. It marked Spisak’s first fall of the year. Bucknell scored an upset victory at 149 as Victor Lopez was strong from the top position in downing UVa’s Gus Sako (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio), 7-6. After Lopez maintained control for the full second period, Sako took a 6-4 lead early in the third with a takedown, but Lopez reversed him and then rode out the period to build the riding time over a minute and claim the decisive bonus point. UVa won the next five weight classes. Ranked 15th nationally, Butler started the run with a 12-3 major decision over Ray Schlitt at 157 to run his record to 15-6 on the year. Sulzer, the No. 2 ranked wrestler at 165 pounds, then racked up nine takedowns in a dominating 20-8 major decision over Rustin Barrick. Doty followed with a pin of Joey Kurlock midway through the first period, his team-leading seventh fall of the season. The bonus points pushed the Cavaliers’ lead to 23-6. Suvak claimed a 4-2 win over Rory Bonner at 184, and Nye followed with a 6-1 decision against Tyler Lyster at 197 for the Cavaliers’ final wins of the day. Bucknell heavyweight Joe Stolfi, ranked 20th nationally, pinned UVa’s Ethan Hayes (R-So., New Lebanon, Ohio) 1:19 into the first period to wrap up the dual. Hayes scored the first takedown, but Stolfi soon after reversed Hayes and put him on his back to get the fall. MINNEAPOLIS -- Third-ranked Minnesota was able to claim their ninth win of the season as the defeated No. 21 Indiana in their second-to-last home dual of the season. The Gophers won eight bouts on the afternoon en route to a 35-6 win over the Hoosiers. The Gophers are 9-1 on the season and 6-1 in Big Ten competition. A 157 start had No. 8 Dylan Ness up first for the Golden Gophers as he expected to face No. 7 Taylor Walsh of Indiana. Instead, he faced unranked Alex Gregory by major decision and started the Gophers off with a four point lead. Schiller picked up his twenty fourth-straight victory to continue his undefeated season as he pinned Cheney Dale of Indiana in 2:37. Schiller remains the only undefeated Gopher wrestler. The Gophers were able to pick up three major decisions and one fall in the first five bouts to put Minnesota up 21-0 going into intermission. No. 4 Tony Nelson, who had three losses going into the dual, was unable to top No. 6 Adam Chalfant as he lost by decision, 3-2, in regulation. This is is first regulation loss of the year, the other three came in overtime. Nelson is now 21-4 on the season for the Gophers as he continues his quest toward his third-consecutive national championship title. Reigning Big Ten Wrestler of the Week and Flowrestling Brute Wrestler of the Week, Sam Brancale, was able to come away with a major decision over Indiana's Alonzo Shepherd, 15-3. No. 9 David Thorn followed Schiller's suit at 133 as he was able to pin Chris Caton at 2:26. At 141, Corey Hodowanic stepped in for the the first time this season for Chris Dardanes. Hodowanic was unable to come away with a win for the Gophers as he was defeated by Trevor Moody of Indiana. Nick Dardanes added four points at the end of the daul to extend the Gophers score to 35 with a major decision over Indiana's Eric Roach. The Gophers will head to the Sports Pavilion for the last time this season next Sunday as they host No. 1 Penn State. The dual is sold out but fans will able to tune in as the Big Ten Network will broadcast live from Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon. NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Navy wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to the championship, where they won three individual titles en route to the Mids winning their 13th overall All-Academy Championship, including their sixth in a row. Nine of the Mids' 10 wrestlers placed among the top three as the Mids proved to be the better team on Saturday afternoon at Merriman Gym in Roland Hall in New London, Conn. Navy stood atop the leader board with 108.5 pounds with three champions, while The Citadel fell in as the runner-up with 92.0 points and crowned four individual champions. Air Force finished third with 83.0 points and two champs, followed by Army with 71.0 points (1 champ), VMI (17.5), the Merchant Marine Academy (16.5), Norwich (6.5) and Coast Guard (2.0). "I'm really proud of how our team has wrestled in the last couple of weeks and their hard work is translating," said Navy interim head coach Brian Antonelli. "We had a huge semifinal round and while we might not have wrestled quite to our abilities in the finals, the guys got the job done. "I do want to say a special thank you to the Coast Guard Academy who did a phenomenal job of hosting the tournament this year and made it special for all of the teams. I thought it was just a class act tournament all the way around and appreciated the efforts the school put forth." Navy has been the dominant team in the 20-year history of the tournament, winning 13 of the 20 championships including 10 of the last 11. The Mids have won 78 individual crowns in All-Academy Championship history, including 52 of the 110 titles over the last 10 years. The Mids won the team title in 1995, '97, '99, '04, '05, '06, '07, '09, '10, '11, '12, '13 and '14, while they claimed five or more individual titles in 1997, '99, '04, '05, '07, '08, '10, '11 and '13. Navy had four returning title winners from last year's All-Academy Championship in action. Junior 133-pound Colton Rasche (Plano, Ill.) who came into the match nursing an injury, but looked healthy in winning his second All-Academy Championship title in as many years. Rasche opened with a 19-4 tech fall over Merchant Marines' Issac Hammonds and posted a 14-6 major decision over Army's Logan Everett in the semis. Rasche, who has reached the 20-win milestone for the first time in his career at 20-9, claimed the title with a 12-3 major decision over Air Force's Gregory Rinker. It's the fourth consecutive year Navy has won the 133-pound weight class at the All-Academy Championship. "Colton wrestled a smart match against Rinker in the championship," said Antonelli. "Rinker is an all-around good athlete and Colton did a nice job of working the match in his direction." Sophomore 174-pound Mathew Miller (Edgewood, Md.) also won his second All-Academy Championship title in as many tries by way of a medical forfeit by Army's Brian Harvey in the championship bout. Miller, though, had little trouble in finding his way to the championship, pinning The Citadel's Terrell Forbes in 1:31 and Josh Miller of the Merchant Marine Academy in the semis in 2:06. Ranked 15th nationally, Miller was the only wrestler in the tournament who won two matches by way of fall. A year ago, Miller became just the eighth freshman in school history to win an All-Academy crown as a rookie. "Mat is a two-time champion here and that's not an easy thing to do," added Antonelli. "His pin points really helped the team. He's been healthy the past few weeks and you can see that coming through in the results on the mat." Navy's final title winner was junior Paul Rands (Cary, Ill.) who scored a solid 4-1 victory over Army's Bryce Barnes in the championship. Rands, who has won five consecutive matches, pinned Phillip Azzari of Coast Guard in his first match of the day before punching his ticket into the championship via a 7-3 victory over Air force's Robert Isley. Rands, who placed fourth at the 2012 All-Academy Championship, is a first-time title winner at the event. "I'm so proud of Paul. He's a talented wrestler who has had to fight and scratch his way through his first few years here," said Antonelli. "His win over the Barnes kid is big. It's big in terms of his confidence, but Barnes is coming off a couple of big wins himself over the last few weeks. Paul just continues to get better every weekend and I'm so proud of his progress." Five Mids placed second in their matches on Saturday, including two who lost to nationally-ranked foes. Senior Joe Locksmith (Kissimmee, Fla.) came up short at 141 pounds where he lost a 7-3 decision to 12th-ranked Ugi Khishignyam of The Citadel. Meanwhile, junior 165-pound Peyton Walsh (Glen Allen, Va.) dropped a tough 4-2 decision to 11th-ranked Turtogtokh Luvsandorj of The Citadel. It's the second time this season Walsh has lost a two-point decision to Luvsandorj. "Peyton is closing the gap on the young man from The Citadel (Luvsandorj)," Antonelli said. "He's wrestling well for us right now and while he came up short in his finals match, he's continuing to work and correct the small things in his matches." TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Iowa State wrestling team (8-3 overall, 1-2 Big 12) got bonus point wins from its two All-Americans en route to a 21-12 road win tonight at Wells Fargo Arena over Arizona State (6-6 overall, 1-0 Pac-12). No. 2 Kyven Gadson won his 25th straight dual match, as he was able to lockup a nearside cradle early in the third period to pin ASU’s Josh DaSilveria. Gadson now has six falls on the season. The win tonight pushes his overall record to 18-2 and his dual record to 10-0. No. 10 Michael Moreno tallied his fourth major decision of the season after downing ASU’s Nick Rex 12-2. Moreno scored four takedowns in the match and finished with 1:30 of riding time. The junior from Urbandale, Iowa leads the Cyclones in dual takedowns with 27. Luke Goettl was victorious in his return to his home state, downing ASU’s Preston McCalmon 9-3 in front of an abundance of friends and family. The Clarkdale, Ariz. native is now 12-10 on the season and 6-5 in dual contest. Heavyweight Quean Smith needed some late match heroics to defeat ASU’s Chace Eskam. The Detroit, Mich. native won in sudden victory after scoring a takedown on textbook counter attack to an Eskam shot. Smith’s win was the first road dual victory of his career. No. 10 Tanner Weatherman was in control of his match early leading ASU’s Ray Waters 3-0 at the start of the second period. Waters was able to turn the tides, scoring a five-point move. Weatherman fired back with two takedowns to get the 9-6 win and improve his season record to 19-10. The win over Waters was the 40th career victory for the sophomore from Huxley, Iowa. Shayden Terukina picked up his second dual win of the season over ASU’s Kalin Goodsite. The Kamehameha, Hawaii, native had a five-point throw late in the first period, nearly pinning Goodsite. Terukina went on to win the match 8-4 after notching another takedown in second period. OREM, Utah - Utah Valley managed to overcome a late 18-10 deficit to defeat Boise State 23-18 in come-from-behind fashion Saturday evening in front of 1,785 fans at the PE Building. The victory marked UVU's (4-6, 0-0 WWC) third straight home win over the Broncos (3-7, 2-3 Pac-12). Ninth-ranked J.T. Felix gave BSU a late 18-10 lead after pinning UVU freshman Richard Larsen at heavyweight with three bouts to go. But sophomore Jade Rauser (125 pounds) immediately responded for the Wolverines in his first match back from an injury with a 10-1 major decision over Sandy, Utah native Rami Haddadin to cut the deficit to 18-14. Sophomore 133-pounder Chasen Tolbert then gave UVU its first lead of the contest by pinning Ben DeMuelle just 49-seconds into his bout. Tolbert picked up the quick fall after catching DeMuelle in a cradle. With the Wolverines holding to a slim 20-18 advantage, senior 141-pounder and Boise native Avery Garner took the mat for UVU to take on three-time NCAA qualifier Brian Owen. Garner didn't waste any time as he came out looking to score right out of the chute. The UVU senior picked up two first-period takedowns to jump out to a 4-1 lead in the final match of the evening. After a scoreless second period, Garner then finished off the victory with another takedown in the final period to pick up a huge 6-3 win over Owen. "We knew there were going to be a lot of close matches tonight," UVU head coach Greg Williams said. "We didn't expect to lose a couple of the matches that we wound up dropping, but I was very pleased with how our final three guys wrestled. Jade and Chasen gave us the spark that we needed and Avery really capped it off for us." Boise State jumped out to a 12-0 advantage in the early stages of the contest after winning the first three matches. The Wolverines countered, however, with three straight wins of their own to make it a 12-10 affair after six bouts. Senior 174-pounder Monte Schmalhaus got things going for UVU with a 9-0 major decision over Austin Dewey. Junior 184-pounder Ethan Smith followed that up with a hard fought 8-5 decision over Andrew Tiedman and sophomore 197-pounder Derek Thomas capped the rally with a 5-3 overtime win over Cody Dixon. Thomas trailed Dixon 3-2 with seconds remaining in the third period but Thomas was awarded a point for stalling after Dixon tried to flee the mat. The Wolverine sophomore then won the bout with a takedown in the first sudden victory period. In all, the Wolverines won six of the 10 bouts to pick up the victory over the Broncos. "We dealt with some adversity tonight with Adam Fager being out with an injury, but Derek Thomas really came through for us with his overtime victory," added Williams. "I'm proud of this team. This team has done of nice job of being able to battle through a number of misfortunes and keep their chins up." The victory marked Utah Valley's second of the season over a Pac-12 opponent. UVU will remain home next week to begin its Western Wrestling Conference slate against South Dakota State on Thursday and No. 21 North Dakota State on Friday. EDINBORO, Pa. -- Edinboro won nine of ten matches, with three falls and three more technical falls, to hand Buffalo a 41-3 defeat on Saturday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots, ranked ninth by InterMat and 14th in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Coaches Poll, improved to 8-3 with their eight win in the last nine matches. A young Bulls squad fell to 2-13. kory mines vs. UB Kory Mines picked up a 7-5 win at 125 lbs. The match got underway with the top matchup of the night, as Kory Mines, ranked 16th by Amateur Wrestling News and 18th by InterMat, met two-time national qualifier Max Soria at 125 lbs. Mines jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one period one the strength of a takedown, two near fall points, and another takedown. A Soria escape was the lone point in the second period. Mines began on the bottom to start the third, and it almost cost him. Soria would tilt him for three near fall points with a minute left, but he was forced to cut Mines with 33 seconds to go. Mines would hold off Soria (11-7) for the 7-5 win. Mines is now 19-6 and won his 50th career match. Second-ranked A.J. Schopp followed with another dominating performance at 133 lbs. The junior won a 16-0 technical fall at 5:55 over Justin Farmer. Oddly enough, he opened the match with a takedown, and his only other takedown was the one that ended the match. In between he tilted Farmer three times for seven points while also picking up four stalling points. Schopp boosted his record to 25-1 and now has 97 career wins. Eighteen of those 25 wins have provided bonus points. Mitchell Port, ranked number at 141 lbs., remained undefeated at 21-0 as he pinned UB's Nick Flannery (14-13) at 3:37. He had a takedown and three near fall points in the first period, then boosted the lead to 7-0 with a reversal before flattening Flannery. Port won his 85th career match, giving the Fighting Scots five wrestlers in the lineup with 85 or more wins. He won by fall for the tenth time this season. Dave Habat boosted Edinboro's lead to 18-0 with a 24-8 technical fall at 6:43 over Ryan Todora. The junior, ranked 14th by Amateur Wrestling News and 16th by InterMat, recorded ten takedowns, but did have any back points and therefore only picked up four team points. He improved to 21-4 on the year. pickett vs. UB Vince Pickett is moments away from a fall at 197 lbs. Johnny Greisheimer fell behind 2-0 at 157 lbs. as UB's Wally Maziarz registered the Bulls' first takedown of the night forty seconds into the match. Gresiheimer, ranked 16th, responded with and escape and his takedown with eight seconds left in the period made it 3-2. He built the advantage to 8-2 after two periods with a reversal and three near fall points, then used a big third period to close out a 17-2 technical fall. Starting at neutral, he had a takedown and two three-point near fall moves, gaining his final point with a 2:20 riding time advantage. Gresiheimer is now 20-7 and has won 10 of his last 11 matches. Kasey Burnett-Davis would continue to settle in as the starter at 165 lbs., picking up an 8-5 decision over Tyler Rill. Burnett-Davis boosted his record to 11-6. He led 2-1 after one period following a takedown with 49 seconds left in the period. He added a second takedown in the second period, with Rill's two escape making it 4-3 after two periods. Burnett-Davis started the third period with an escape, and added a takedown with 20 seconds to go for a 7-3 lead. Rill made it interesting when he reversed Burnett-Davis with 16 seconds remaining, but Burnett- Davis hung on and picked up a point for riding time. james vs. UB Ernest James closed out the win with his 37th career fall. The Edinboro lead peaked at 29-0 thanks to a 6-3 decision by Patrick Jennings over Rrok Ndokaj at 174 lbs. While evening his record at 9-9, Jennings fell behind 2-1 after one period, but knotted the score at 3-3 after two periods with a takedown midway through the session. He began the third period on the bottom, and would post the winning points with a reversal at 1:43, then rode Ndokaj out the rest of the way for a point in riding time. Buffalo finally broke through on the scoreboard at 184 lbs. as Tony Lock improved to 16-10 with a 5-3 decision over Nick Mitchell. The redshirt freshman was filling in for starter Vic Avery. Lock used a pair of takedowns for a 4-1 lead after one period, with a Mitchell escape closing it to 4-2 after two periods. The only point in the third went to Lock when Mitchell was called for locked hands. Mitchell would hold a 1:21 advantage in riding time. He is now 10-9. Edinboro would close out the match with a bang, as Vincent Pickett and Ernest James won on first period falls. Pickett won in a rare manner, as the sophomore was in a scramble with Angelo Malvestuto at 197 lbs. early in the match. With neither wrestler holding an advantage, Pickett pushed back and forced the shoulders to the matt for the neutral fall at 34 seconds. Pickett is now 13-9 while Malvestuto fell to 16-12. James, meanwhile, won in a more conventional fashion. The senior came up with his eighth fall of the season and 37th of his career as he pinned undersized James Banjamin at 1:15 following his second takedown of the period. Va. -- The No. 7 University of Pittsburgh wrestling team (11-1) used pins from Geno Morelli, Max Thomusseit and Nick Bonaccorsi to cruise past rival West Virginia (9-4), 33-6, this evening at the WVU Coliseum. Anthony Zanetta and Shelton Mack started the match off strong for the Panthers with a pair of decisions at 125 and 133 pounds to get the early 6-0 lead. WVU responded by winning the next two bouts to even the match but Pitt regained momentum on a decision from Ronnie Garbinsky at 157 pounds. Garbinsky jumped on Brutus Scheffel early with a double leg and turned it into a near fall for a quick 4-0 lead and never looked cruising to a 10-3 decision. The Panthers started to take over at 165 pounds when Morelli planted Ross Renzi for a pin at 1:41 to extend the Pitt lead to 15-6. Tyler Wilps followed up the Morelli pin with a convincing 8-2 decision over Bubba Scheffel. Wilps registered a takedown in each period, an escape and a bonus point for riding time for the win. The Fighting Camels stand at 4-1 overall and 4-0 atop the SoCon leaderboard, while Davidson falls to 4-11 and 0-4 in the league. The Camels took eight individual matches, including two pins, a technical fall, and a major decision. Campbell stormed to a 15-0 lead, taking three straight bouts. The Wildcats forfeited the 125-pound spot to give CU the 6-0 start, and freshman Tyler Walker stayed undefeated at 4-0 overall and in the conference. At 133 pounds, freshman Drew Walker picked up his third league win with a 7-5 decision over Anthony Elias. Walker is 12-12 on the season and 3-1 in the SoCon.
