ATHENS, OHIO -- Old Dominion University won their fifth dual match in a row (fourth MAC) by defeating Ohio University 22-15 Sunday evening. ODU's Alexander Richardson (149) and Billy Curling (174) both picked up top-10 victories to continue their individual match winning streaks. Richardson has won 10 in a row dating back to January 2nd and Curling has won five matches in a row. "Billy Curling has now beaten two top-10 opponents in a week," said ODU Head coach Steve Martin. "He beat his first All-American today in No. 9 Cody Walters and defeated then No. 8-ranked Ottinger from CMU last week. Billy wrestles very hard and is believing in himself. Lenny Richardson also beat No. 8-ranked (AWN) Claxton today and looked great. Michael Hayes came through with a pin and looked dominant. Mecate, Warner and Dechow continued to put points on the board. Dechow continues to score key bonus points for the team. Even in our losses at 197 and Heavyweight we competed hard. Tourdot gave an All-American all he wanted and Beazley took the No. 7-ranked Ohio wrestler Phil Wellington into overtime. We look forward to scrapping with Missouri on the road next week." 133-pounder Michael Hayes got the Monarchs on the board with a decisive Fall victory at 5:50 over Sebastian Arroyo (Ohio), which tied the dual match at 6-6. Hayes moves his record to 11-10 and 2-2 in the MAC this season. ODU would not let the team lead go after 141 as No. 5-ranked Chris Mecate delivered an 8-2 decision victory over Ohio's Noah Forrider. ODU led 9-6 heading into 149 pounds. Mecate is now 23-6, has won six of his last seven and is 5-1 in the MAC this year. No. 19-ranked Alexander Richardson (149) went on to defeat No. 15-ranked Tyron Claxton by a 4-3 decision. Richardson's victory over Claxton gave the Bobcat his first MAC loss this season. Richardson is 22-6 and 5-1 in the MAC. Heading into 157 pounds ODU led 12-6. Monarchs wrestler No. 19-ranked Tristan Warner did not give up a single point as he defeated Spartak Chino by a 3-0 decision. Warner has won his last five in a row. Warner is 5-1 in the MAC. ODU's Billy Curling delivered a knock out blow as the 174-pounder stunned All-American No. 10-ranked Cody Walters by a 7-2 decision. Curling has won 8 of his last nine matches and is 5-1 in the MAC this season. He has beaten two top-10 opponents in one week. At 184 pounds, Old Dominion's Jack Dechow defeated Ryan Garringer by a 14-4 major decision and gave the Monarchs the secure team victory as ODU led 22-12. Dechow is 13-3, 4-0 in the MAC and 8-1 since his return to the ODU lineup. ODU (8-8, 4-2) is now alone at third place in the MAC Standings. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Fighting Illini wrestling team ended the conference season on Sunday with a 24-12 win over No. 9 Northwestern. The No. 15 Illini notched their third conference win of the season and have now won back-to-back duals for the first time since December. The Illini got wins from Zac Brunson (157), Nikko Reyes (184), Jesse Delgado (125), Zane Richards (133) and Steven Rodrigues (141), while Tony Dallago (174) recorded his 38th career pin to become Illinois' all-time leader in the category. "We had energy," said head coach Jim Heffernan. "I thought we wrestled hard and we wrestled better tonight. We were aggressive and we wrestled to score points. We had a little more purpose today and that's a good thing. There's a couple of situations where we need to do more. We still have a month to go and we'll keep getting better." The dual started at 149, where John Fahy filled in for the injured Caleb Ervin to take on No. 4 Jason Tsirtsis. Tsirtsis scored first with a takedown and acquired just under a minute of riding time before Fahy was able to escape. Tsirtsis notched another takedown with under 10 seconds left in the period to go up 4-1 going into the second. Fahy scored the only points of the second period, escaping from the bottom position halfway through the period, but Tsirtsis recorded an escape and a takedown in the third to claim the 7-2 victory. At 157, No. 13 Zac Brunson faced Northwestern's Ben Sullivan. Brunson dominated the first period, recording two takedowns and two near-falls to take an early 9-1 lead. Brunson then started the second period on top and rode Sullivan for nearly a minute and a half before he was able to escape, making the score 9-2 after two periods. Sullivan started the third period with a takedown, but Brunson was able to quickly escape and hang on to win the 11-4 decision. No. 13 Jackson Morse squared off against No. 7 Pierce Harger in the 165-pound matchup. Harger scored first, recording a takedown under a minute into the match, then notched three near-fall points before Morse was able to escape. Morse started the second in the bottom position and managed a quick escape, then recorded a takedown to pull within one point. However, Harger was awarded one point for a locked hands call before the period ended to make the score 6-4 going into the third. Harger scored three points in the third period, an escape and a touchdown, and with the one-point riding time advantage won the 9-4 decision to give Northwestern a 6-3 lead. Senior Tony Dallago wrestled at Huff Hall for the last time in his career, this time against the Wildcats' David Helmer. Dallago scored a couple of takedowns before turning Helmer and recording his 38th career pin, the most in program history. The Harrisburg, Pa. native is now Illinois' all-time leader in the category. His victory added six points to the team's overall score, giving the Illini a 12-6 lead. "It's a great way to go out.," said Dallago. "I was trying to be aggressive and I felt good. I get excited when I get pins, so if it's there I try to go for it. It's also six points for the team which is nice." "Tony breaking the pins record was awesome, especially the way it happened," said Heffernan. "He did it at home on Senior Day. I love watching him wrestle. He's exciting and he's fearless." Nikko Reyes took on Jacob Berkowitz at 184 pounds, and scored the only points of the opening period with a takedown in the last 20 seconds. He then started the second period in the bottom position and managed a quick escape to make the score 3-0. Berkowitz escaped from the bottom position early in the third, but Reyes responded with a takedown. Berkowitz recorded one more escape, but Reyes held on to claim the 5-2 victory. Northwestern got victories in the next two matchups, starting with the 197-bout between Jeff Koepke and No. 17 Alex Polizzi. Each wrestler scored a takedown and an escape in the first period, making the score 3-3 after one. Polizzi started the second period on bottom and was able to quickly escape before taking down Koepke. Koepke then turned Polizzi for a two-point reversal with under 10 seconds left in the second, making the score 6-5 going into he final period. Koepke started the third period on bottom and was able to escape after a minute and a half, but Polizzi held on and was awarded one point for riding time to claim the 7-6 victory. At heavyweight, top-ranked Mike McMullan defeated Christopher Lopez in a 4-0 decision to tie the score at 12-12. At 125, No. 1 Jesse Delgado got off to a strong start against Garrison White, recording four takedowns, two three-point near-falls and a two-point near-fall to take an early 17-4 lead. After scoring a takedown early in the second, Delgado ended the match with a two-point reversal to claim the 21-5 tech. fall victory and give the Illini a 17-12 lead. "Delgado is starting to look like himself again," said Heffernan. He's making progress and he's changed some things, he's scoring some different ways. When Jesse is moving like that, you can hardly watch him because he's so fast. He's getting to the point where he's back on." No. 11 Zane Richards faced Dominick Malone in the 133 bout. Richards scored a takedown in the first few seconds, then rode out Malone for the remainder of the period. He started the second period in the bottom position and escaped within seconds, then recorded a takedown a minute later. Richards recorded two more takedowns before the period ended, making the score 9-2 going into the third. In the final period, Richards scored two more takedowns and acquired 2:54 in total riding time, giving him the 14-5 major decision victory. After returning to the lineup on Friday night at Purdue, No. 8 Steven Rodrigues took on Pat Greco in the final matchup of the night. Greco scored first with a takedown, but Rodrigues escaped less than a minute later to make the score 2-1. Rodrigues started the second period on top and rode Greco for over a minute and a half before turning him for a two-point near-fall to take the 3-2 lead. The redshirt-sophomore recorded an escape and a takedown in the final period to claim the 7-2 victory and make the final score 24-12 in favor of the Illini. The Orange and Blue are back in action on Feb. 16-17 for the NWCA National Duals in Columbus, Ohio. The event will feature some of the best teams in the nation, including No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 6 Cornell and No. 18 Iowa State, along with Big Ten opponents No. 3 Minnesota and No. 11 Ohio State. TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State wrestling team picked up an upset victory over No. 22 Oregon State, 17-16, on Sunday. ASU now sits at 7-7 on the year, 2-1 in Pac-12, while the Beavers now sit at 9-6, 3-1 in league action. “We’re coming together as a team, our guys are wrestling hard, and everyone is trying to contribute the best they can toward the overall outcome in our duals,” head coach Shawn Charles said. “Obviously we want to win every match, but I can say that we have gotten better every time we come out. We’re going to go back to the wrestling room and continue to work on getting ready for conference.” The match marked ASU’s home finale, and prior to the dual, ASU’s senior class of Nick Rex, Brendan Behrens, and Hans Rasmusson were honored for their contributions to the program both on and off the mat. Ares Carpio got things started for the Sun Devils with a 6-2 decision over Pat Rollins at 125, but the Beavers’ Drew Van Anrooy tied up the dual with a 3-2 decision over Kalin Goodsite at 133. At 141, Matt Kraus picked up four team points for ASU with a 13-1 major decision to put ASU up 7-3, before Oregon State’s Scott Sakaguchi scored a decision at 149 to cut the lead to 7-6. Oregon State took the lead at 10-7 with a major decision at 157 as RJ Pena bettered Joel Smith, but after the break, Nick Rex picked up a 5-2 decision over Toney Chay to tie things back up at 10-10. “Nick winning his final home match is how every senior should go out,” Charles said. “I’m happy to see the progress he’s made from the first time he stepped on the mat until now. Everyone can see that what he has done has really paid off. It’s great to see a senior go out with a victory in his final home dual.” The Beavers regained the lead with a 9-5 decision at 174, before Blake Stauffer came out at 184 with a 17-8 major decision to give the Sun Devils the 14-13 edge. At 197, Wesley Moore defeated Zachary Cardwell in a 6-2 decision to put the Sun Devils back up, 17-13, and at heavyweight, Chace Eskam held Beaver Amarveer Dhesi to a 5-1 decision to lock up the narrow victory for the Sun Devils. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Michigan State wrestling team rallied to defeat Indiana, 18-16, Sunday afternoon at University Gym in the final Big Ten dual of the season. With one match remaining and the Spartans trailing, 16-15, red-shirt freshman Garth Yenter recorded a commanding 10-3 decision over Chris Caton at 133 pounds to secure the victory for MSU. The Spartans won six of the 10 matches in the dual, including five of the last six. Indiana jumped out to a 13-3 lead after claiming three of the first four matches. Trevor Moody opened the dual with a 4-2 decision over sophomore Brian Gibbs at 141 pounds, but sophomore Nick Trimble tied the team score at 3 after notching his first-ever Big Ten dual win, a 6-5 decision over Eric Roach at 149 pounds. IU (7-9, 0-8 Big Ten) countered in the 157 and 165-pound weight classes, producing back-to- back victories. Seventh-ranked Taylor Walsh pinned sophomore Roger Wildmo and Ryan LeBlanc topped senior Bobby Nash by major decision, 16-5. At 174 pounds, senior Nick Kaczanowski won the first of three straight matches for the Spartans with a 3-2 win over Matt Irick. Junior John Rizqallah followed with a 3-1 decision over Luke Sheridan and junior Nick McDiarmid produced his third Big Ten dual win of the season with a 4-0 shutout against Cheney Dale to trim the Hoosier lead to 13-12. Seventh-ranked heavyweight Mike McClure had his four-match winning streak snapped by No. 4 Adam Chalfant in a 5-1 decision, but it would be the final victory of the day for Indiana. At 125 pounds, senior Brenan Lyon shut out Alonzo Shepard, 5-0, setting up Yenter's 10-3 triumph over Caton in the dual's finale. STILLWATER, Okla. -- The No. 10 Oklahoma wrestling team (9-3 overall, 2-1 Big 12) suffered a 29-9 defeat at the hands of in-state rival and eighth-ranked Oklahoma State (7-4 overall, 3-0 Big 12) in the 170th installment of the Bedlam series inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. OU, whose lineup was shuffled due to injuries to three of its regular starters, won just three of the contest’s 10 matches. "We were obviously outmatched in several weights," OU head coach Mark Cody said. "The takeaway is that we have a lot of work to do. I think one issue is that we don't want to forfeit any weights. Even the guys that came out with wins today have a lot of work to do and that's something that never stops at this level. We just have to keep trying to get better every time we walk in there." OSU started the dual with three straight wins before No. 2 Kendric Maple topped No. 9 Josh Kindig by decision, 7-3. Maple scored two takedowns, two escapes and the riding time point with 1:37 to take the match. Andrew Howe, ranked No. 1 at 174 pounds, bumped up to 184 pounds and faced redshirt freshman Jordan Rogers. Howe won by decision, 9-2, OU’s first win since Maple’s at 149 pounds. With the victory, Howe improved to 19-0 this season, including an 11-0 mark in dual competition. With a 9-4 decision, No. 4 Travis Rutt defeated redshirt freshman Nolan Boyd at 197 pounds. In the match, Rutt added three takedowns and a two-point nearfall and secured the point after accumulating 3:06 of riding time. The dual started at 125 pounds and saw No. 13 Eddie Kilmara of OSU defeat OU freshman Sean Williams by fall at 3:30, giving the Cowboys an early 6-0 advantage. In the 133-pound bout, No. 7 Cody Brewer fell to No. 4 Jon Morrison of OSU by decision, 7-3. Brewer struck first with a takedown late in the first period but was only able to add an escape throughout the rest of the match. Freshman Anthony Collica, ranked 18th, defeated OU’s redshirt senior Nick Lester by a 4-0 decision, while sophomore Dryden Dennis made his second dual appearance of the season for the Sooners, facing No. 3 Alex Dieringer of OSU at 157 pounds. Dennis lost by an 18-2 technical fall. OSU’s No. 5 Tyler Caldwell downed OU redshirt freshman Clark Glass by decision, 5-1, at 165 pounds. Derek Geiges was caught by a pin in 1:53 from No. 2 Chris Perry at 174 pounds, and in heavyweight, redshirt junior Zach Merrill made his dual appearance for the Sooners, falling to The Sooners return to action this weekend as they head to Columbus, Ohio, to participate in the two-day NWCA National Duals on Sunday, Feb. 16 and Monday, Feb. 17. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The 12th-ranked Virginia wrestling team finished its ACC dual schedule with a 22-10 win over NC State Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C. Virginia improved to 17-3 in dual action, including a 5-1 mark in the conference. NC State dropped to 12-5 (1-3 ACC). Virginia won seven of the 10 weight classes as Nick Herrmann (So., Amarillo, Texas), Joseph Martinez (R-So., Platteville, Colo.), Joe Spisak (R-Jr., Boiling Springs, Pa.), Blaise Butler (R-So., Belvidere, Ill.), Nick Sulzer (R-Jr., Cleveland, Ohio), Stephen Doty (St. Louis, Mo.) and Zach Nye (R-So., Enola, Pa.) all earned wins. NC State got off to a good start with a 14-4 major decision by seventh-ranked Nick Gwiazdowski over Ethan Hayes (R-So., New Lebanon, Ohio) at heavyweight. Virginia then took the next three weight classes. At 125, Herrmann claimed an 8-2 decision over Micah Perez, and Martinez followed with a 6-3 win over Chris Wilkes in the 133 bout. Spisak won a 3-1 bout over Sam Speno in a fun match at 141. Down 1-0 heading to the third period, Speno chose the neutral position. After Speno shot in, Spisak was able to turn it around and pick up two points of his own with a takedown. Spisak later was penalized a point for his second stall warning. Speno nearly picked up the tying points in the waning seconds, but after a video review, it was determined he did not have control for a takedown prior to the final buzzer. Wrestling in place of an injured Gus Sako, Justin Van Hoose (So., Kirksville, Mo.) went down to the wire before falling 2-1 to Brian Hamann at 149. Butler got the Cavaliers back on the right track with a 6-3 win over No. 19 Tommy Gantt at 157. Ranked 15th nationally, Butler now is 17-6 this season. Sulzer, ranked second nationally at 165, got the Cavaliers a bonus point with a 16-4 major decision over Nijel Jones. Sulzer scored his first takedown with 1:20 left in the first period, and after Jones escaped, Sulzer took him down to his back to also get a pair of back points as he grabbed an early 6-1 lead in cruising to the victory to improve to 29-1 on the year. Ranked 16th nationally, Doty outlasted No. 17 Pete Randa in overtime, 4-2. With the match tied 2-2 in the third period, Renda was deep in on a shot for the final 20 seconds, but Doty fended him off to send it to overtime. Doty shot in 20 seconds into the extra session and worked for 10 seconds before finishing off the takedown. Doty upped his record to 24-7. James Suvak (R-Fr., Parma Heights, Ohio), wrestling in place of senior Jon Fausey, dropped a 6-4 decision to NC State's Michael Macciavello at 184 before Nye closed the match on a high note for the Cavaliers with a 3-1 win over KaRonne Jones at 197. Nye scored the winning takedown in the final 10 seconds to seal the win as he improved to 17-8 this season. The Cavaliers conclude the regular season next Sunday (Feb. 16) with a 2 p.m. dual at George Mason. CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- UNI wrestling got wins from five Panthers to beat Kent State by criteria, 19-18, in the teams’ first meeting. The Panthers got a strong start from top-ranked Joe Colon (133 pounds) with his ninth tech fall this season. He is third in the nation for most tech falls among Division I wrestlers. IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Seniors Tony Ramos and Derek St. John exited Mediacom Mat as winners for the final time Sunday afternoon, leading No. 3 Iowa to a 26-6 win over No. 11 Michigan inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. St. John, ranked No. 2 at 157, scored a takedown in the final period to defeat No. 14 Brian Murphy, 3-1, and Ramos scored takedowns in each period to defeat No. 19 Rossi Bruno, 6-1. St. John finished his career with a 31-1 mark inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and Ramos had his hand raised for the 34th time in 34 career matches on his home turf. Ramos said getting the win today was exciting, but also a bit of a relief. "It's not something I was trying to think about all week long, but people keep asking about it," said Ramos, who is ranked No. 3 at 133. "To me I was trying not to make it a big thing, but it is a big thing. The last person to (go undefeated at home) four years was Tom (Brands), and three years was (Brent) Metcalf. Those are big shoes to fill and that's a good class of people to be in." Brands was undefeated at Carver-Hawkeye Arena from 1989-92. He credits Ramos for showing up to win every time and giving the fans something to look forward to. "There is something special about Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and there is something special about our fans, and there is something special about how they reward their guys," said Brands. "It's their team and they feel a lot of ownership with that. Especially when you're doing the job, and the way Ramos competes, he's been able to do the job." Beitz continued to work his offense low while Dardanes looked to control shoulder action. The duo traded shots in the middle of the mat at the :30 mark with neither man connecting and Beitz led 2-1 after one period. Beitz chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 3-1 lead. Beitz continued to try and connect on low singles while fighting off Dardanes' collar ties. The call stood and the bout was tied 3-3. Deadlocked, the bout moved into sudden victory. Neither wrestled scored in the extra minute, the bout moved into a tie-breaker. Beitz chose down first. Dardanes maintained control for the :24 seconds but was called for clasped hands, giving Beitz a 4-3 lead on the penalty. With :06 left, Beitz tried to escape on the reset but could not break free. Dardanes chose down for his tie-breaker period and quickly escaped to a 4-4 tie. The bout then moved into a second sudden victory period. Dardanes worked in on a single leg with :18 on the clock and connected on the takedown with :04 left to steal a 6-4 (sv2) win. 157: All-American Dylan Alton (Mill Hall, Pa.), ranked No. 4 at 157, took on Gopher junior Dylan Ness. Alton looked to connect on a quick single leg but Ness was able to counter the move and work his way around the Lion junior for a takedown and a 2-0 lead of his own. Ness then controlled the action from the top position for over a minute before action moved out of bounds with 1:09 on the clock. Ness maintained control for the remainder of the period and carried a 2-0 lead with over 2:00 in time into the middle stanza. Ness chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 3-0 lead. Alton nearly scored on a takedown and Ness fled the mat to avoid a score, similar to Beitz in the prior match. But in this case it was simply called stalling and Alton still trailed 3-0. Alton chose neutral to start the third period and shot quickly but once again, Ness was able to back out of the Lion's control and keep the 3-0 lead. Ness then turned a counter shot into a takedown and the takedown into back points on the edge of the mat. He would eventually pick up the pin and give the Gophers a 12-7 lead at intermission. 165: All-American David Taylor (St. Paris, Ohio), ranked No. 1 at 165, met Minnesota senior Danny Zilverberg. Taylor pressured the Gopher from the get-go, working the Gopher's left ankle on a single leg and forcing a scramble that Zilverberg countered for a takedown of his own and a 2-0 lead. Zilverberg maintained control for over a minute before Taylor reversed the Gopher to tie the match a 2-2. Taylor rode Zilverberg out and the match moved to the second tied 2-2. Taylor controlled the action from the top position for over a minute, building up over 1:00 in riding time while trying to turn Zilverberg for back points. Taylor turned Zilverberg for three back points and led 5-2 after two periods. Taylor chose down to start the third period and quickly reversed the Gopher to take a 7-2 lead with well over 1:00 in time. Taylor cut Zilverberg loose, took him down and cut him loose again. Leading 9-3, Taylor turned him for three back points and upped his lead to 12-3. Storley shot quickly but Brown was able to push back on the shot and keep the bout scoreless early. Brown nearly turned Storley to his back with a front headlock, but Storley rolled through the move and action resumed in the center circle tied 0-0. Brown pressured Storley towards the edge of the mat, working for an opening, but the Gopher was solid on defense, fighting off a late single leg to take the match to the second scoreless. Schiller chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 1-0 lead. McIntosh then shot, forcing a scramble that nearly ended with each man getting a takedown. After :30, McIntosh finished off the move for a takedown and a 2-1 lead. Schiller escaped quickly to a 2-2 tie with 1:05 on the clock. McIntosh countered a Schiller shot, locking up the Gopher's head, working it into a single leg but running out of time for the takedown. Tied 2-2, McIntosh chose down to start the third and deftly reversed the Gopher for a 4-2 lead with 1:40 on the clock. McIntosh shot low again, gaining control of the Gopher's ankle and working his way to another takedown and a 6-3 lead. Schiller escaped to a 6-4 score and McIntosh once again got in on a low single. He rolled through the shot, finished off the takedown and led 8-4 with :15 on the clock. The outstanding win put Penn State up 17-15 with one bout left. 285: Junior Jon Gingrich (Wingate, Pa.) battled No. 5 Tony Nelson at 285. The duo battled evenly for the first half of the opening period, with each man trading collar ties but no one finding an offensive opening. Nelson looked to score on a double, but Gingrich muscled his way out of trouble and kept the bout scoreless at the :20 mark. Tied 0-0 after one, Nelson chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 1-0 lead. Nelson then connected on a high double leg to take a 3-0 lead with 1:30 on the clock. Gingrich was unable to break free of a strong Nelson ride and carried that lead with 1:25 in riding time into the third period. Gingrich chose neutral to start the third period and quickly got in on a low double. But Nelson was able to force a stalemate at the 1:29 mark, maintaining his 3-0 lead. Gingrich continued to shoot but Nelson was able to fight off each move, working down the clock to the :57 mark while forcing another stalemate. With Nelson able to defend each Gingrich shot, Nelson posted the 4-0 win and clinched the upset dual meet victory.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Paced by three fall victories, the Maryland wrestling team rolled to a 37-7 win over Duke at Comcast Pavilion Saturday night. No. 1 Jimmy Sheptock, Ty Snook and Tyler Goodwin picked up the pins for the Terps (6-8, 2-3 ACC), who rebounded from a 7-0 deficit and ripped off eight straight victories. The dual got underway at 157 pounds. Duke’s Immanuel Kerr-Brown used a first period takedown and riding time gained in the third period to take a 5-2 victory over Ben Dorsay. Marcus Cain notched the Blue Devils’ only other win of the night at 165 pounds, getting past Josh Snook by major decision. At 174 pounds, Ty Snook got the Terps on the board with an impressive fall victory over Trey Adamson at 1:44. Sheptock followed up Snook with another pin. The senior captain worked over Jacob Kasper for most of the first period before nabbing the pin at 2:29. In the most significant match of the night by national ranking, No. 8 Christian Boley shrugged off a sluggish start with a third period takedown that sealed a 3-2 victory over No. 19 Conner Hartmann. No. 8 Spencer Myers followed up Boley with a 10-2 major decision victory. Myers put forth a workmanlike performance, taking down Brandan Walsh a few times over the course of the three periods. After Duke forfeited the match at 125 pounds, Tyler Goodwin lit up the Pavilion with a first period pin. The true freshman was on Evan Botwin from the opening whistle, gaining back points twice before finally putting the match away with a pin at 2:29. Shyheim Brown and Frank Goodwin finished off the match with decision victories. Brown defeated Xaviel Ramos, 5-3, at 141 pounds before Goodwin survived a late surge from Connor Bass and won 8-5. The Terps also raised $1,748 in partnership with Pin Cancer at the dual. Maryland retakes the mat next week for two home duals. The Terps take on N.C. Philadelphia, Pa. -- The Drexel Wrestling team defeated Franklin & Marshall, 25-11, on Saturday night for their third straight victory and second of the weekend. With the win, the Dragons improve to 7-13 overall and 1-4 EIWA while the Diplomats move to 5-6, 1-3. Tanner Shoap got the Dragons on the board first with a 4-0 decision over Franklin & Marshall's Jason Bing. Kevin Devoy Jr bumped the Drexel lead up to 9-0 by earning a pin at 133 with 26 seconds to go in the first period. The Diplomats took a major decision at 141 that made the score 9-4. Noel Blanco retaliated at 149 with a 3-2 decision that increased the Dragons' lead up to 12-4. The Diplomats fought back again and picked up a major decision at 157 to come within four team points of Drexel. However, Jason Fugiel's 9-2 decision at 165, Kevin Matyas' 2-1 win at 174, and Bryan Sternlieb's 6-0 victory at 184 secured a deficit the Diplomats could not overcome. Brandon Palik finished out the Dragons' late 4-0 run with a strong 22-8 major decision, putting Drexel on top, 25-8. Franklin & Marshall picked up three more team points with a decision at 285, but it was not enough to surpass the Dragons. BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- In its final appearance in Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall for the 2013-14 season a sellout crowd of 1,988 saw No. 23 Lehigh win eight of ten bouts in a 27-9 win over Rutgers Saturday night. Sophomore Laike Gardner sparked the Mountain Hawks with a first period pin in the first bout of the evening and Lehigh went on to win seven of the final eight bouts on the night. With the victory, Lehigh improves to 8-5 on the dual season and 4-2 against EIWA opponents. Rutgers falls to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in EIWA duals. "Any time you wrestle a conference opponent it feels good to get that 'W'," said Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro. "Rutgers always has a good team. To come in an win eight matches like we did is great. We're just looking for a higher pace." Gardner opened the dual with Lehigh's only bonus point win of the evening as he pinned Tyson Dippery in 2:50 at 141. An early takedown gave Gardner a 2-0 lead and after Dippery came up looking for a reversal, Gardner threw in a whizzer and flipped Dippery to his back during a scramble. "Laike just keeps wrestling," Santoro said. "He was wrestling a really dangerous opponent and a really talented one so we knew it would be a tight match, but Laike wrestled through all positions, which is what you have to do at this level. He's getting better every week." Lehigh's 6-0 lead was short-lived as the Scarlet Knights pulled even when Ken Theobold upset 13th-ranked freshman Mitch Minotti with a second period pin at 149. Minotti scored a first period takedown to lead 2-1 after one period but in the second, Theobold secured a reversal and used a cradle to put Minotti on his back as he secured the fall at the 4:38 mark. From there Lehigh won the next five bouts to build a 21-6 lead. On a night when the Mountain Hawks honored their four-person senior class, senior Joey Napoli rallied for a 7-4 decision over Anthony Perrotti at 157. Perrotti scored the first takedown of the match before the wrestlers traded reversals. A Napoli escape made it 4-3 Perrotti after one period, but Napoli had the only other offensive scoring in the match with a second period takedown and added 1:25 of riding time advantage. At 165, sophomore Ben Haas picked up his second straight victory, downing Nick Visicaro 8-2. Haas scrambled through a Visicaro shot for a first period takedown and extended his lead with five points in the second period on a reversal and three point near fall when Visicaro's attempt to roll Haas onto his back misfired. Haas allowed a third period escape but collected 3:17 of riding time. "He got majored by that kid last year and really turned it around tonight," Santoro said of Haas' performance. "He's gaining more confidence now and that's the key. When you get into February you want to start getting some confidence and Ben's doing that." The match at 174 between freshman Elliot Riddick and Phil Bakuckas featured minimal action and scoring through the first six minutes, but Riddick broke a 1-1 tie with a takedown on the edge and added a second score in the final seconds to win 5-2 and give Lehigh a 15-6 lead at intermission. Freshman Zach Diekel opened the second half of the dual with a 5-2 decision over Dan Seidenberg at 184. Diekel scored takedowns in the first and third periods and added more than two minutes of advantage time. Sophomore John Bolich capped the five bout Lehigh run with a 6-5 decision over Hayden Hrymack at 197. Trailing 5-3 after giving up a late second period reversal, Bolich reversed Hrymack early in the third and kept him down, earning the winning point with a 2:21 riding time advantage. In one of the more anticipated bouts of the evening sophomore heavyweight Max Wessell met Billy Smith in Wessell's first match since upsetting eighth ranked JT Felix of Boise State. With neither wrestler able to break through from neutral, the match was tied 1-1 through regulation and 2-2 through the first set of overtime periods. The match went into the second set of tiebreakers where Smith escaped and then scored a takedown in the first half while Wessell could only muster an escape as Smith held on for a 5-3 decision, Rutgers' second and final win of the evening. Lehigh finished the dual strong, winning the final two bouts. At 125, freshman Darian Cruz broke open a tight 3-1 match with a third period takedown and two point near fall to defeat Sean McCabe 7-2. Sophomore Mason Beckman won the final bout 2-1 over Vinnie Dellefave at 125 with Beckman riding out the third period for the decisive point. "At times, we let Rutgers dictate the pace of the match," Santoro said. "I don't think we were using our hands enough to get the momentum going. We had a chance to get some stall calls and we took the pressure off the gas pedal. Those are easy fixes that we will work on, but we have to be able to do it mentally all the time." The Mountain Hawks will return to action Friday night when they host No. 4 Iowa at Stabler Arena in the Hawkeyes' first visit to Bethlehem since November 1990. The Chattanooga Mocs took over sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference race with a 32-10 win at Campbell tonight. UTC won four matches by two points or less to defeat the Camels who were previously unbeaten in SoCon action. Chattanooga improves to 14-5 overall and 5-0 in SoCon matches. Campbell drops to 4-2 and 4-1 in league duals. This is UTC’s seventh straight win and the most dual victories in a season since posting a 16-1 mark in 2007. The Mocs have won 13 straight Southern Conference matches and are 27-1 in league duals in the Heath Eslinger era. Action began at 184 tonight. Each of the first four wrestlers to take the mat came in with perfect 4-0 SoCon records. The opening match was a low-scoring affair that Campbell’s Ville Heino led 3-2 in the third. UTC sophomore John Lampe scored a late takedown for the 4-3 win, improving to 15-8 overall and 5-0 in SoCon bouts. There was much more action at 197. UTC freshman Scottie Boykin held on for his 18th win in a 13-11 decision against Taylor McGiffen. Those were Campbell’s best bets for getting something going in the match, but the Mocs were able to hold on and build a 6-0 lead. Freshman Dawson Peck made it 9-0 with an 8-3 win over Eloheim Palma at heavyweight. Peck continues his hot start, improving to 8-1 since joining the team in January. STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 8 Oklahoma State wrestling team handled CSU Bakersfield on Saturday in Gallagher-Iba Arena, walking away with a dominant 37-6 win. John Smith and his squad improved to 7-4 on the season. The Pokes put five bonus-point wins, three of which were falls, and it was the third-straight dual where the Cowboys gave up two or fewer wins. “I thought we looked pretty good,” coach John Smith said. “There are definitely some things we need to clean up before tomorrow like getting the weight back and head blocking a little bit more. Overall, it was a pretty good effort. I like the way we ended tonight. Of course, the falls were nice to have.” The bout started at 157 pounds, where third-ranked Alex Dieringer pinned Spencer Hill with less than a minute left in the match to give the Cowboys a 6-0 start. "I saw (Hill) going for the pancake a couple of times. I eventually caught on and capitalized on it,” Dieringer said. “I knew he was going to go for that pancake. I saw an opportunity to do it earlier in the match and didn't execute on it, so I was waiting for it." Tyler Caldwell, ranked No. 5 in the country, produced his second-straight major decision when he finished off David Meza, 11-2. No. 2 Chris Perry earned his seventh win over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 12 Bryce Hammond, 5-2. Redshirt freshman Jordan Rogers had a stellar performance as he was up 13-5 before pinning Sean Pollock in 5:47. It was his 11th fall of the season. "I was a pinner in high school quite a bit, so when the opportunity arises you've just got to smell the blood,” Rogers said. “You have to be ready to take advantage of it. Those opportunities don't come by very much in college, so you've got to take advantage when you can catch a guy on his back." Cowboy senior and 197-pounder Blake Rosholt returned to competition for the first time in a month after battling a shoulder injury. Rosholt was up on Reuben Franklin for most of the match, but three stalling calls on the Cowboy took the match into overtime, where Rosholt was eventually outlasted, 6-4. No. 16 Austin Marsden earned his first bonus-point win of the season, when he stuck Roadrunner Alex Encarnacion in 3:53 during the heavyweight bout. Sophomore Eddie Klimara sealed the dual for OSU with his 19-4 technical fall over Sergio Mendez. Klimara ended the bout after two periods, collecting six takedowns and three nearfalls. At 133 pounds, Smith called on Brian Crutchmer, a redshirt freshman from Tulsa, Okla. In his varsity debut, Crutchmer scored the first takedown against Jose Mendoza, but he was not able to get off bottom later in the match, resulting in a 13-2 loss for the Poke. No. 18 Anthony Collica tallied up his 22nd win of the 2013-14 campaign, defeating Ian Nickell, 9-2. The Cowboy came out on top thanks to his three takedowns and a reversal. The night’s final bout provided a thrilling finish for Cowboy fans as No. 9 Josh Kindig came back after trailing 7-2 in the first period to beat Dalton Kelly, 12-9. The redshirt junior scored five points in both the second and the third periods to end up with the W. “If I could have drawn up that matchup with Kindig any differently, I wouldn’t,” Smith said. “You like to see someone come back for behind and clean up the mistakes that he made with the scrambles earlier in the match. It was a really good effort match that he probably needed. His legs were underneath him and he was strong in the third, which was the difference in the outcome.” The Cowboys take to the mat Sunday at 2 p.m., meeting up with the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners in the 170th installment of Bedlam. WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Navy wrestling team won eight bouts in its EIWA dual against American, including five extra-point decisions to cruise to a 34-8 victory over the Eagles on Friday evening at Bender Arena. The Midshipmen are now 4-1 in dual action this season and will have the next two weeks to prepare for their match against Army on Feb. 21. The dual opened at what has been a solid weight for the Mids as of late, as junior 197-pound Paul Rands (Cary, Ill.) faced American rookie Brett Dempsey who was subbing in for nationally-ranked Daniel Mitchell who was out with an injury. Rands wasted little time and built a 4-1 lead over the first three minutes and extended it to a 7-1 advantage through two. Rands went on to capture the victory by way of major decision, 10-2. It was his sixth straight win of the season and improved to 4-1 in dual competition this season. “Paul got us going tonight and set the tone,” said Navy interim head coach Brian Antonelli. “He’s wrestled extremely well over the last month and a half and he just continues to gain more confidence and wrestle aggressively.” American, however, knotted the match at 4-4 after redshirt senior Blake Herrin picked up a 13-5 major decision over Navy’s Colynn Cook (Murrysville, Pa.). American then took its only lead of the match at 8-4 thanks to a 14-5 major decision by 11th-ranked 125-pound David Terao over Navy newcomer Brenden Campbell (New Castle, Ind.). In an entertaining match, Terao used a strong second-period effort that featured a pair of reversals and a near fall to push his season record to 27-7 overall and 11-2 in dual matches. Momentum, however, turned in the direction of the Mids when junior 133-pound Colton Rasche (Plano, Ill.) turned AU’s Esteban Gomez-Rivera just 27 seconds into the final period and recorded his fourth win by fall this season. Rasche, not only gave Navy the lead for good, it was the springboard to seven straight victories by the Mids. Junior 141-pound Quentin Leadbeter (Owings, Md.) made his first dual appearance since his freshman year and walked away the victor. Leadbeter used an eight-point third period that included a takedown and near fall to secure his first collegiate dual victory, a 9-6 decision over Spencer Slishman. Navy kept it rolling when senior 149-pound Alex Johnson (Memphis, Tenn.) stepped to the mat in what was his first dual appearance of the 2013-14 campaign. A closely-contested match, Johnson broke a 3-3 tie with an escape to open the third period and tacked on a takedown to earn the 6-3 victory over Cole Moseley. Sophomore Bobby Burg (Gasport, N.Y.), who has faced injuries over the course of the year, also made his first dual appearance of the season. Battling fellow second-year 157-pound John Boyle, Burg’s escape with under a minute to go in the match was enough to take a 4-3 victory. Moving to 24-10 on the year and 5-0 in dual action, junior Peyton Walsh (Glen Allen, Va.) dominated American redshirt freshman Brad Mutchnik at 165 pounds. Walsh put together a pair of near falls in the opening period en route to a 10-1 advantage. The match ended in the second period with a 16-1 tech fall for the Navy returning NCAA qualifier. Winning his fifth consecutive match was Navy 174-pound Mathew Miller (Edgewood, Md.). Miller and AU senior Keithen Cast engaged in a fierce scramble that looked as though Miller might be brought down to the mat for a takedown, but instead Miller outmuscled Cast and was able to score the pin in just under two minutes. Miller, who owns a 16-4 record this winter, has won 19 matches over his career by way of pins, including nine this season. “Mat is so athletic and his mat awareness is just incredible,” said Antonelli. “He is confident in a scramble and most of the time he either gets his way out of a bind or he’s able to do what he did tonight. He’s incredibly tough in those situations.” Earning the final win of the night for the Mids was senior team captain James Mannier (Troy, Ohio) at 184 pounds. Mannier, who was coming off a third-place finish at the All-Academy Championship a week ago, stymied AU’s Jason Grimes in an 8-0 major decision to earn his 16th win of the season. “James looked tough tonight,” added Antonelli. “His opponent’s style is a little unorthodox, but he didn’t let that be a distraction. CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Coach Doug Schwab earned his first win against Iowa State since taking over the UNI wrestling program, winning 24-13, the Panthers’ biggest margin over ISU since 1951. The No. 5 Panthers beat the No. 17 Cyclones 22-6 in 1951. “Our seniors wanted to go out beating them,” said Schwab. “We wanted to continue building and make a statement.” UNI remains just one of three teams unbeaten in the top 25, improving to 10-0. They are 5-0 in the Mid-American Conference. Iowa State got the early lead at its strongest weight class. No. 2 Kyven Gadson earned a major decision. However the Panthers would take the next five, earning bonus points at 125 pounds with a major decision by No. 6 Dylan Peters, a tech fall by 133-pounder Joe Colon and a first-period pin by No. 14 Joey Lazor. Headed into this weekend, top-ranked Colon was third in the nation for tech falls. He now has eight on the season. Iowa State got the next three, but No. 5 Ryan Loder extended UNI’s lead with a 5-0 decision. DeKALB, Ill. -- The Northern Illinois University wrestling team pushed Kent State to the brink Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, but lost on criteria to the Golden Flashes, 19-18. NIU (6-10, 1-6 MAC) came from behind to tie the match at 18-18 against the Golden Flashes (10-8, 4-2 MAC) with wins at 197 and 285. However, the Huskies ultimately lost the dual, as KSU took the tiebreaker with six wins in the meet. “I feel good about the way we wrestled,” said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. “Again, what we’ve been working on is closing the gap and working on those little things to get your hand raised. Every match we wrestled out here was an extremely tight bout from 125 on up. Clearly, you can see tonight when we’re offensive an believe in our attacks, we make good things happen. When we sit around and let the match come to us, bad things happen.” KSU got on the board first when Nick Harrison fell in a 3-2 decision to Alfredo Gray. After surrendering a quick takedown, Harrison tied the match at 2-2 with a pair of escapes, but gave up an escape to begin the third period and provide the final tally. At 133, Nick Smith and Mack McGuire engaged in a high-scoring affair. After McGuire got out to a quick 4-0 lead following a takedown-nearfall combo, Smith battled back and finished the period trailing only, 4-3. However, McGuire kept Smith at bay and eventually captured a 13-8 decision. Tyler Argue nearly tied the dual in the first period of the 141 match, only came away with a 4-0 lead against Tyler Small. Small, though, battled back to claim a 6-5 lead after two periods and got a takedown in the final 30 seconds en route to a 9-6 win for the Golden Flashes. The Huskies, though, countered with back-to-back pins prior to the intermission, giving them a 12-9 lead. Rob Jillard got NIU on the board with a quick pin of Mike DePalma at 149 pounds. That momentum carried over to the 157 match, where Andrew Morse stuck KSU’s T.J. Keklak with 41 seconds remaining in the first period. The Golden Flashes tied the dual at 165 when Tyler Buckwalter defeated Shaun’Qae McMurtry. Facing a 5-2 deficit late in the third period, McMurtry managed to fight back and send the match into overtime, only to have Buckwalter get the deciding takedown in sudden victory. Caleb Marsh gave the lead back to the Golden Flashes in the 174 match, as he scored a 7-2 decision against Billy Chancey. The KSU lead pushed to 18-12 when Caleb Busson fell to 13th-ranked Sam Wheeler, 10-5. Shawn Scott kept the Huskies alive with a 6-4 decision in sudden victory over Cole Baxter. Trailing by two with less than a minute left in regulation, the NIU redshirt freshman executed a reversal to send the match into overtime. From there, Scott landed the single leg and scored a takedown for the winning margin. Jared Torrence would cap the day with a 1-0 victory over Mimmo Lytle in the heavyweight match. Torrence scored an escape in the second period, but was unable to earn bonus points via major decision or pin. PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Trailing 16-9 with two bouts remaining, sophomore Augustus Marker (Castle Rock, Colo.) unleashed a crucial fall at 197 to power the Brown wrestling team to an 18-16 win over Penn in its home opener at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday. "This was an exciting and emotional match tonight," said Head Coach Todd Beckerman. "Especially with our alumni back for the weekend, the team really fed off the excitement of our home crowd." The Bears got off to a hot start with senior Vincent Moita (Clayton, Calif.) taking a narrow 3-1 win at 125 and sophomore Anthony Finocchiaro (Canastota, N.Y.) prevailing 11-4 at 133. Facing a 6-0 deficit, the Quakers rattled off four straight decisions to jump ahead 13-6. Senior Ricky McDonald (Carson City, Nev.) snapped Brown's dry spell and grinded out a 3-1 win in the 174-pound class, only to see No. 9 junior Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas.) suffer a rare loss by way of an 8-5 decision to No. 13 Lorenzo Thomas at 184. Trailing 16-9, Brown needed strong performances in the final two bouts and Marker provided just that with a defensive fall with just 50 seconds left in the 197-pound match. ITHACA, N.Y. -- Heading into the final two matches of its Ivy League dual with Columbia tied at 15-15, it fell on unheralded Jace Bennett and Jacob Aiken-Phillips to bring home Cornell wrestling's 12th consecutive Ivy league title. The upperclassmen delivered. The pair of juniors each earned dominant wins without surrendering a point to give the Big Red a 22-15 victory over the Lions in a hard-fought dual on Saturday afternoon at Friedman Wrestling Center. Cornell improved to 10-0 on the season (5-0 Ivy) to earn its 63rd straight Ivy dual win and continue an unprecedented run of success. No Ivy team in any sport has won more consecutive Ancient Eight titles in conference history than the Big Red's 12. In fact, no one else has won 11 consecutive. After No. 20 Shane Hughes pinned Craig Eifert at 174 pounds and Zack Hernandez was able to carve out a 6-3 decision over Billy George at 184 pounds to knot the team score at 184, there might have been some trepidation in Friedman. Not on Jace Bennett's face. The junior earned a takedown in the first 20 seconds and was able to tilt Matt Idelson for three near-fall points by the end of the first to take a 5-0 lead as part of what would eventually be an 11-0 major decision to give Cornell some breathing room. Aiken-Phillips had the same type of dominant effort at heavyweight. After a scoreless first period that Aiken-Phillips controlled, the junior earned a quick escape in the second and a takedown to make it 3-0 heading into the third. He added another takedown in the third and added in riding time for the victory, improving to 16-7 on the season. Without four starters in the lineup, Cornell was never able to run away despite dominance at the top. Two of Cornell's wins came by decision with seven-point victories, one point shy of a major. One match that was never in doubt started Cornell off on the right foot, as top-ranked Nahshon Garrett secured seven takedowns and a couple near falls en route to a 21-5 tech fall triumph for the sophomore at 125 pounds. The victory extended his win streak to 16 straight matches. After Angelo Amenta got the Lions on the board with a tight 3-1 decision over Bricker Dixon at 133, Mike Nevinger ran out to a 7-0 lead, survived a late second period reversal and nearfall and closed out an 11-4 triumph over Matt Bystol at 141 to moved Cornell to an 8-3 lead. That would grow to 12-3 after 149, as No. 6 Chris Villalonga was too much for Connor Sutton in a 15-1 major decision. The senior had three separate nearfalls and only a free escape for Sutton in the first kept Villalonga from a shutout. Columbia's rally began at 157, as Markus Schiedel held off Taylor Simaz for a 7-5 overtime decision. The Cornell freshman had a late escape and takedown in the third to send it to overtime, but Schiedel was able to earn the match-winning takedown in the one-minute sudden victory period to make it 12-6 Big Red at intermission. Dylan Palacio topped Josh Houldsworth of Columbia 12-5 at 165, but it was the Lion whose late escape and takedown erased Palacio's bonus point win in the third. Palacio otherwise dominated ahigh-scoring third with two takedowns and a three-point nearfall. The highlight of the night for Columbia was Shane Hughes picking up the first period pin over Craig Eifert, followed by Zack Hernandez's 6-3 decision over Billy George to knot the score heading into the final two bouts. Athens, Ohio -- The Ohio University Wrestling team (10-3, 4-3) earned its fifth-consecutive home win following a 21-16 victory over Clarion Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center. The win also marked Ohio's eighth-consecutive win at home dating back to last season. Clarion stole an early lead, with Dustin Conti defeating senior Ryan Garringer (Downers Grove, Ill.) at 184 in a 9-5 decision. Ohio sophomore Phil Wellington (Euclid, Ohio) responded with a major decision victory (11-3) over Daniel Sutherland at 197 which gave the Bobcats a 4-3 lead. Wellington's win marked his sixth-consecutive victory. He is also undefeated in home competition. Senior Jeremy Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio) mimicked Wellington, scoring another major decision triumph at heavyweight as he downed Evan Daley, 11-3. Philadelphia, Pa. -- The Drexel Wrestling team held on to defeat Rider, 20-19, on Friday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. With the win, the Dragons improve to 6-13 overall while the Broncs move to 12-7 on the season. Freshman Tanner Shoap started off the night for the Dragons at 125 but lost a 10-2 major decision to give the Broncs an early 4-0 lead. Kevin Devoy Jr came out at 133 and earned a 7-6 decision after five overtimes to get the Dragons on the board with three team points. David Pearce gave the Dragons a 9-4 lead with a come-from-behind pin over Rider's Paul Kirchner at the 3:17 mark. At 149, Noel Blanco lost a tough 9-7 decision that narrowed the Dragons' lead to 9-7. Austin Sommer fired back with a 4-2 decision that increased Drexel's lead to 12-7 before the dual went into a ten minute intermission. UW head coach Mark Branch reached a milestone in his coaching career Friday night as the University of Wyoming wrestling team rolled over Northern Colorado, 41-6. Branch won his 60th dual as UW's head man, thanks to four falls and two major decisions from the Cowboys. He is just the fifth coach in UW history to reach the 60-win plateau. With the win, UW improved to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the Western Wrestling Conference. "I was pleased with the bonus points we got. From top to bottom, seeing the guys respond with bonus points was the most pleasing thing," Branch said. "I saw guys going out and taking chances, going for falls and back points. We've been emphasizing to them to take chances and good things will happen. It was nice to see them come out of their shell a little bit and have a dominating win." Branch's cause was aided by junior Andy McCulley, who earned the best win of his season over 19th-ranked Mitchell Polkowske. McCulley's pin of Polkowske at 5:34 in the 157-pound bout tied the dual at 6-all after two matches and jumpstarted a 41-0 run for the Pokes over the remaining eight matches. "Andy's was a crazy match. He got caught in some bad situations, but didn't lose his focus," Branch said. "He stayed composed and came back strong and had a great reaction on that pin." Three other Pokes - redshirt freshmen Benjamin Stroh (184), Gunnar Woodburn (133) and Cole Mendenhall (141) - secured pins, while redshirt freshman Brent Havlik (174) and junior Shane Woods (197) came away with major decisions. The Pride bounced back from an 8-0 deficit after two matches to record their second consecutive eight-match victory and even their overall record to 6-6 and 4-2 in the EIWA.
