Just an update on Virginia high school wrestling, I have been around it for 53 years, lol. First off, Christiansburg is way down. There is no longer a dominate program in Virginia! In the 80's and 90s, you had Great Bridge, Grundy, and Christiansburg. Grundy is not nearly as good as they once were. The interesting thing there is that all were lead by former Iowa AAs/national champs with Martin, Dresser, and Weber. In the 2000s and 2010s, it was Great Bridge, Christiansburg, Grundy, and Colonial Forge (they have disappeared). Virginia has seven state tournaments, including the privates. This has significantly diluted the meaning on being a Virginia State champion. Yes, the top Virginia kids can still compete at the national level, there is just not much depth at all. The class of 2025 may be the best class in close to fifteen years for Virginia.
