  1. Just an update on Virginia high school wrestling, I have been around it for 53 years, lol. First off, Christiansburg is way down. There is no longer a dominate program in Virginia! In the 80's and 90s, you had Great Bridge, Grundy, and Christiansburg. Grundy is not nearly as good as they once were. The interesting thing there is that all were lead by former Iowa AAs/national champs with Martin, Dresser, and Weber. In the 2000s and 2010s, it was Great Bridge, Christiansburg, Grundy, and Colonial Forge (they have disappeared). Virginia has seven state tournaments, including the privates. This has significantly diluted the meaning on being a Virginia State champion. Yes, the top Virginia kids can still compete at the national level, there is just not much depth at all. The class of 2025 may be the best class in close to fifteen years for Virginia.
  2. I have gone on record for weeks now that TJ was leaving. Dad enjoyed toying with us and has really been exposed as a fraud and liar. Hopefully, the kid experiences moderate success in Raleigh.
  3. Sadly, Papa Stewart has turned TJ into a villain. The father's lies and deceit are humorous at times. There are fans on our site who consider him to be a messiah. Wonder what their take on Poppa will be now???
  4. That is correct.......Papa Stewart was upset that Tech supporters were not happy with a .500 record from a returning AA. He basically took his ball and went home. However, he has reappeared recently. I wish the kid nothing but the best moving forward, but time to get out of Blacksburg.
  5. I hate to say it, but I think Stewart is gone! The fanbase rubbed Papa the wrong way.
  6. Garland is the first person who came to mind! He is a very nice guy, but program is getting worse. As a former Hokie wrestler, I hope Garland stays in Hooville forever, lol.
  7. Wow! Two #1 seeds out of Hokie Land. People rarely talk about the job that Robie is doing in Blacksburg. By no means am I saying they will ever compete with PSU or Okie State, but I think that Coach Robie is doing an incredible job with extremely limited resources.
  8. My bad...... Been a long day already lol, Catka and Mullen
  9. Virginia Tech: 197: Sasso and Andy Smith 285: Walz and Mullen
  10. I know some of you will laugh at my post, but I think my Hokies could get to the podium: 125 Ventresca- previous AA 133- McGonagle- decent chance at AA 141- Latona- 2x AA 149- Henson- Champ 157- Hipolito- could go 2-2 at big meet, very dangerous like Andonian 165- Brady/Amine- 174- Wolak- AA 184- Stewart- AA as a freshman 197 Sasso/Smith- possible AA 285- Catka/Mullen The ceiling for this lineup is probably a finalist and 7 other AA. Is that enough to hit the podium???
  11. 125- DeAugustino 133- Chlebove 141- Matthews 149- Abas 157- Mauller 165- Fish 174- Mocco 184- Rogotzke 197- Stemmett 285- Pitzer Go Hokies!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I have been around Virginia high school wrestling for 52 years, lol. My father was a very successful coach from 1968-1993. Here would be some of my candidates during my lifetime. Obviously, Coach Simon would be the best ever from Virginia: Best High Schooler- Jody Staylor- I do believe that Jody was a 3 or 4 time state champ. Cannot remember if he was at Great Bridge as a Freshman. I believe Jody won multiple gold medals in Fargo and was a NCAA finalist as a true freshman at UNC. Best Collegian: You could split hairs here.......Bubba, Carl Perry, Byron Tucker. If I had to give one name, it would be Bubba based on his resume.
  13. I was a three year starter at Virginia Tech. I had the pleasure/displeasure of Kevin Dresser being our GA, lol. With me being a 134/142 lber, Coach Dresser beat the crap out of me everyday for one year. On a serious note, Coach Dresser is a great man and did apologize years later for the "lessons" he taught me, lol. I grew up in the Hampton Roads area, it was a very good area for high school wrestling in the 70s/80s/90s.
