He had tons of wins and zero losses. Those with minds that lean toward statistics will say he's the GOAT.

Does that tell the whole story? Not really. I would say he's the "winning'est" of all time, or maybe something like that.

You could make a case for quite a few other wrestlers as GOAT's. I won't name names. We've been down that road many, many times, no need to travel it again.

Point is - I don't consider Cael the GOAT. One of the tops of all time, yes. Not necessarily the pinnacle. Room on the pinnacle for more guys.

    So... not everyone from everywhere.

It reads like you don't have a singular GOAT, but rather a top tier. If so, who is in that tier?

Not sure which emoji to use there.....lol.  There's some truth to that, or massage therapy, and of course there used to be the sauna....personally, I use my hot tub now, in addition to an inversion table, traction rig and even a 2 piece neck brace that I sleep in if my neck is aggravated.....that's from 60+ years in the sport.  I watched it, good match....if I remember right Braunagel got a takedown on the buzzer.  It was a barn burner.

Does it make me a bad person if I have never used an emoji?

Reading about your various techniques for self care makes me not regret swimming, in spite of the partially torn labrums

I viewed the Max Dean/Braxton Amos situation...not sure I liked the part about the knee in the back, and I'm not sure the referee saw that.  Amos might have needed a chiropractor/PT after that.  Bent leg turk itself was fine (for college and up).

My guess is they all need chiropractor/PT all the time. Though, Amos did wrestle again on Sunday, losing to Zach Braunagel 3-4. No idea how he looked.

Matthews is still undefeated on the season.

Exhibition matches don't count towards his record.

The official count has caught up with the unofficial count.

Five preseason #1's have fallen (Cole Matthews, Yianni Diakomihalis, Will Lewan/Brayton Lee, Aaron Brooks, Max Dean, Cohlton Schultz).

    But wait, there is more.

Make fun of Wrestlestat all you want, but only three of their preseason #1's have taken an L. They had Austin O'Connor at #1 in 157 (though he has dropped to #3) and Mason Parris in 285.

But wait, there is even more more. When I downloaded the Wrestlestat data on 10/27 they had O'Connor at an Elo of 1570.43. They now say his preseason Elo was 1553.03 for a #2 ranking. Ahh, data. It can be so slippery.

Can you really put Starrocci in his own tier when he went to tie breakers with Mekhi last year and beat him on a riding time point this year? Starrocci is great and certainly the favorite but I am not going to give him his own tier based on those results.

I am comfortable with him at his own tier because he is 2 for 2 at NCAA's and on a 36 (37) match win streak that includes 1 (2) wins over Mekhi Lewis. Last year he beat the second, third, and seventh place finishers on the way to his title. (Nick Lee, Keegan O'Toole, Aaron Brook, and Gable Steveson also beat 3 ultimate AA's - everyone else beat 2). The year before as the 3 seed he beat the 2 seed and 1 seed.

Starrocci is the returning champ and leader of the pack at this weight. Tier 1 includes Starrocci, Labriola & Lewis. Is Foca making a case to enter into tier 1? He was looking like someone who could push for a high podium spot last year before the concussions. This year he has beat everyone put in front of him not named Mekhi Lewis.

    Tier 1 is Starocci.

Tier 2 is Labriola, Lewis, and Foca.

I think it is also reasonable to say that it is easier to dominate at lower weights when others outgrow the lowest weight and you do not.  When you ascend in weight, I suspect you are typically dealing with more upperclassmen on a regular basis and more mature bodies.

I always thought this too, but you inspired me to take a quick look. Per latest Intermat ratings 125 has the highest total of top 10 ranked wrestlers coming from upper classmen (Juniors and Seniors - however that is defined these days), with 9 of 10. 125 also has the most underclassmen in the 21-33 range.

As a PA native it gives me great pride to see how Iowa fans universally recognize their GOAT wrestler is Spencer Lee, a PA boy.  I hope that once he finishes his amateur career he starts his coaching career in PA.

I'm sure he'll eventually push the Brands out of Iowa City, but I think they are young enough that a 25 year old Spencer won't be evicting them from their offices any time soon.

How about Spencer Lee coaching at a place like Lock Haven?

I knew once we got away from Conestoga wagons these darn kids would wander off too far. Mark my words, SpaceX will be then end of PSU dominance, too.

I guess it's 36:15....and now, that's NOT the direction the knee was "designed" to be bent.

Which moves would you deem as being as dangerous?

Lets just make the same rules as the High Schools. When start pulling the foot toward the head, then it's illegal.

I don't understand why you think the knee was not designed to bend toward the back.

No, my logic is pretty straight forward. Your argument that "the Forum" is contradictory because apparently there have been complaints about people working to ride and not turn(I don't know how to argue for "the Forum" to be clear, only my own opinion) then it's somehow at odds with the belief that a particular turn should be illegal is circular.

I was using hyperbole to make a point. If we've determined SOME moves on top are dangerous or likely to cause injury, that supercedes the "Forums" desire to see more turns.

Amos had his foot behind his head and his knee twisted. That's a good way to Spencer Lee a kid and serves no real purpose other than I guess serve as a strawman for those on the forum who have complained about not enough Wrestlers working for turns.

Go to 35:50 and tell me that should be legal?

His knee wasn't twisted, which is why it is not illegal. His knee was bent in the direction it is designed to bend. Yes, it is extremely uncomfortable, but not any more dangerous than many wrestling moves.

  12. There was a great article on ESPN two years ago about the unnatural amount of weight gain required to be an offensive lineman in the NFL. Great read if you have the time:

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29399747/how-nfl-offensive-linemen-escape-5000-calorie-lunch-transform-retirement

Soonbto be Hall of Famer Joe Thomas BETWEEN meals for example:

Thomas finds a McDonald's on the GPS. It will be quick -- just a bit of fuel between lunch and dinner. He orders two double cheeseburgers, two McChickens, a double quarter-pounder with cheese, one large order of fries and a large Dr. Pepper.

"Or another sugary drink," he said recently. "Just to add 500 calories, the easy way."

It takes a lot of dedication.  I don't put on weight naturally.  I stress starve typically and need to make dedicated effort to regain weight after losing it during periods of stress.  Naturally my appetite is very low.

I am telling you guys, there is something wrong here. Cement doesn't fly and people in the US do not struggle to put on weight.
