Biggest individual flameouts of the tournament?

I say good stuff by @bracketbuster I come to a different conclusion about bonus points due to the impact on pinfalls, but comme ci, comme ca.

It is time to review how the 3 point takedown impacted bonus point scoring in this tournament. At the beginning of the year I predicted that there would be a 32.7% increase in bonus points. I got there by making assumptions about the likelihood of near majors becoming majors and near tech falls becoming tech falls. So how did I do? Benchmarks Matter To answer that question we need to know what we are comparing to. 32.7% of what? Bonus point scoring is somewhat volatile from year to year. If we just look at last year versus this year we get a very different answer than if we look at last 5, or 10, or 20 years versus last year. Ideally, if the jump was real and meaningful it would not matter which time window was chosen. For my estimate, I used 1988 as a starting point because that is the starting point for when I have match data, so let's stick with that. The average number of bonus points per match was 0.43 and the one standard deviation band around that was 0.37 to 0.49. So, how did we do this year? Turns out we were spot on that +1 SD number of 0.49 bonus points per match. OK, so high-ish, but not exactly knocking my sox off high. Not even record high. As a matter of fact, as recently as 2016 and 2017 we had higher numbers. So What gives? PINFALLS I assumed that there would be a measurable jump in majors (just barely) which have a bigger impact than a jump in tech falls, which I also assumed would increase (correct). But what I failed to account for is that with more matches ending early due to tech fall, there would be fewer pinfalls. In hindsight, this seems obvious. A lot of pinfalls occur after the superior wrestler has had a little time to tenderize his meat. But, with tech falls coming hotter and faster, there just isn't enough time to really work over that tough cut and flip it. Verdict The verdict is still a little unclear. It is hard to be definitive based on one tournament, but that is the point isn't it? The result from this one tournament is not definitive enough to say the change in scoring led to an increase in bonus points. Yes, there was a big increase in bonus points over last year, but last year was a historically low total, and probably an unfair point of comparison. Yes, there was a measurable jump in tech falls, adding a half a point over a major. But there was a near identical drop in pinfalls, losing a half point relative to a tech fall. Asterisk So, what does it mean for PSU's record team points total? I think very little to nothing. It all comes out in the wash. 172.5 > 171.5 (170)

Will Ohio State Be Too Dog Next Year?

How can I forget about Uncle Tony's nephew? Shame on me. -
Will Ohio State Be Too Dog Next Year?

It has happened already. Most notably in this tournament are Michael Beard, Brody Teske, and Seth Nevills. Before that Jarod Verkleeren transferred to Virginia for two years after four at PSU. There are probably others I am forgetting, and there will certainly be more. -

PSU's problem is they have too many top wrestlers, not too few. In addition to getting Van Ness back from injury, they bring Facundo back from ORS. They also have the top rated recruiting class coming in. On top of all of that, they have demonstrated a certain skill with the transfer portal. Embarassment of riches comes to mind. -

As a PSU fan, I think Erisman is a great and worthy choice.

There needs to be a time limit for reviews

I remember an "ah ha" moment when I first began following my nephews in HS wrestling. One nephew was in a semi against a guy who was just cut. I looked at my skinny nephew and thought, he doesn't stand a chance. In the third with my nephew trailing, his coaches challeneged something or other. I thought my brother-in-law was going to blow a gasket. "We get them with conditioning. What are you doing?", he snapped, almost to himself, as he paced. Later he explained how those big muscles need a lot of oxygen. I get it now. -
You know I like whiskey, but I can always get my beer while God is being praised. Seems appropriately given how Jesus treats water.

Is LR not going to be in any conference next year? -
And 133 may have been over much, much, much sooner. Mercifully.

Possibly 165 and 174

I agree. Only in neutral. But with continuation. A step out should not stop the action if a TD is imminent. Let the action finish and award the step out if no TD ensues.

Why can't Cael coach an undefeated four timer?
Wrestleknownothing replied to peanut's topic in College Wrestling
Don't you get tired of typing the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over... Never mind, I am tired of this. -
Trump and the Race for Cash
Wrestleknownothing replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Voting on a deal is step one. A very important step one. This was always going to get approved given where DWACs price was. Now they have to close the deal, and waive portions of the lockup agreement in order for Trump to use his shares as collateral. Then they need to negotiate with a surety company over accepting the shares. After all, we are talking about a meme stock with little meaningful trading history. If you have to liquidate ~$600 million of stock in a hurry, you will not be getting $600 million for it. And that you may have to wait six months to do so will not help the negotiating process. Getting that done by tomorrow is a tall order, but not impossible. Could be a tough weekend for some investment banking analysts, lawyers, partners, etc. I would not be surprised to see Trump's legal team asking for an extension to work on all of that. -

Setting records is never bad. And those numbers are mind blowing. I think the 100 point margin of victory is most impressive. But for pure excitement, I prefer 2018. Having the title race come down to a head to head with both the individual and team titles on the line? I still get tingly thinking about it. That it was my first time attending also contributes to the legend for me. Jumping to my feet and thinking "oh no" for a split second before it turned to "oh yes" was awesome. Then watching and rewatching the video ("he's got the chin, he's got the chin") to understand what I just saw has provided years of excitement. -

No, actually you didn't. You waited until it was almost a done deal to try and take a victory lap. If you have a problem with my work feel free to speak up when there is a chance you may be wrong. "Woohoo, a guy made a prediction that was wrong. Now I got him." -
Baseball knows it is boring. That is why it made massive rule changes. Wrestling could use that too.
