Definitely not ready for "or".  Bill and I are still working on the definition of "is".

I'd love to see Vito beat both at NCAAs.  Actually now that I think about it, I'd settle for him beating Bravo-Young.  That would probably cover it.

Bernie, I thought you were a PSU guy?  Williamsport area?  What's going on?

He might be the 4 seed, in which case he’d see RBY first, before any potential Fix match.

Don't see how he'd be the 4 seed unless he loses at the EIWA tournament.  He's a shoo-in for the 3 seed.

  3. Arujau is definitely not a sleeper.  133 along with many other weight classes just don't get discussed much on this board.  The board spends more time talking about if Spencer Lee could beat Cael Sanderson when in their primes or is so & so a "meanie".

Speaking of forum format, can any remember what that old forum look like or what it was called?

The old forum was quite naturally perfect, it was a work of art, flawless, sublime. A triumph equaled only by its monumental failure. The inevitability of its doom was apparent as a consequence of the imperfection inherent in every wrestling forum, thus it was redesigned based on its own history to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of its' nature.

No, I just took a look at the brackets on Wrestlingstats.

Edited my post after you responded.  Would be interesting to see those stats from '97 and compare them to how scoring is applied currently

PSU scores 5 more placement points plus Van Ness' 1.5 to 2.

The issue PSU would still have is they are not a big bonus point team. Iowa scored 34 bonus points in 97. PSU will get about half of that.

Do you have the breakdown from that year?  And how scoring in '97 differentiates from today?  Fun topic

I’ll admit I don’t know a lot about them. Seem to be in the upper weights, where do they fit in with Brooks, Barr, Starocci and the rest?

All you need to know is that it puts Ben Askren in to a predicament.

  8. Hypothetical - Curious with the braniacs on this board how the scoring in 1997 breaks down to a scenario with PSU on par with similar placement

    1997 Iowa 170 points

    National champions:
    Jesse Whitmer (118 pounds) - RBY(133)
    Mark Ironside (134 pounds) - Starrocci (174)
    Lincoln McIlravy (150 pounds) - Brooks (184)
    Joe Williams (158 pounds)  - Dean (197)
Lee Fullhart (190 pounds)  - Kerk ( Hvwt)

    All-Americans:
    Mike Mena (2nd, 126 pounds) - Haines (157)
    Kasey Gilliss (6th, 142 pounds) Facundo (165)
    Mike Uker (5th, 167 pounds)  Bartlett (141)

    ----------------------------- Shayne Van Ness (R12)

If they indeed do break the record, the Hawkeye report room will explode. There was already a topic where they discussed taking second to Penn St, which they figured, but absolutely don’t want them to break the most points scored record.

Interesting. Last time I checked there was still a delusional fantasy they had a shot to win it all

I heard 15.87 lbs but your sources might be better.

on another site I think they said it was 83.83

Let's just hope that he survives in the hospital and makes it to NCAA's.  I mean it's going to be hard for me to argue against Cinnabon when he makes his, "Why PSU won't place in the Top 10" thread and I'll be clinging to Dean's death, Brooks' loss to Pinto in the Quarters, and RBY skipping for a gaming tournament as excuses.

Because Vito has beaten both RBY and Fix in the past, albeit in freestyle?  And wouldn't that throw the Outstanding Wrestler award into some confusion?

The old freestyle translates to folk style debate.  Pretty sure that theory has failed more often than not.

I'm entertaining the idea but asking for specifics as to why it'll happen.

Pinto is a damn stud! He gave Salazar from Minnesota all he can handle, and Pinto has gotten even better since then

He's definitely a bracket buster.  Excited to see him go at it at NCAA's
