I managed to count four (or at the least three), and the ref actually awarded three points to make the score 7-4.  One escape later and a riding point made the final score 8-5.

Fair enough as I said if Larkin doesnt roll its a non issue. And maybe im just a roll hater but a lot of times i see guys try to dive or roll and end up turked, on their back, of giving up a takedown for no reason.

Interesting defense by meyer at the end of the second there feel like he sort of gave Kaleb that takedown. He is very very good hip to hip but I would be surprised to see him go back to that if they meet again.

@Cornell Kevin mentioned Zeke was shouting out a fake countdown which may have tricked Shapiro.  What a jerk move if true

Not only that, Zeke hid behind the second official so it could easily be confused as the second official counting down rather than Zeke who was across the entire mat from the coaches seats, on the mat, tucked behind official, almost in the actual in bound shouting above the crowd noise, 2 seconds ahead of what the actual clock was. This is why Meyer looked confused after Larkin kept going with the trip taking him down to the mat. Zeke walked back to the coaches section with a smile. Larkin knew exactly what was going on as he wrestled through and gave coach a smirk after.  Meyer gave Jones the look of death.

Agreed. We were all wondering what the hell he was doing when he ran right up on the official. Didn’t take long to notice he was counting  ahead and at the top of his lungs.  If you go back and listen to the ESPN + on demand of it, with 8 sec or so to go, turn up volume and even with the audio isolation/noise rejecting microphones ESPN used, ypu can still hear him counting 2 sec ahead in the back ground. He was certainly quite proud of himself smiling as he jogged back to his seat when period ended

Seems like a prime example of unsportsmanlike conduct for the Coach.

It is somewhat hilarious though.

I think it is awesome. When college basketball fans count the shot clock 2 seconds early and force the opposing team to chuck up an airball it is awesome. Wrestle through the whistle don't worry about the clock or any count downs.

I watched it when it happened. You have no proof of anything other than his count was off. He could have been smiling because Larkin scored. Youre making all kinds of leaps.

No leaps at all and he is in no way denying this either as he was tagged in my X post.

I was sitting there live and unless you were, you could not see him because he was not in the view of the camera. Not hard to tell what exactly happened and I am one of about 30 people who were there that are discussing this.  I know the difference between him smiling because Larkin scored and smiling cause he got away with something.  So I see, you think my comment is ridiculous.. wild

This is why I signed up for the ALL ESPN & FOX NOW bundle back in November for $50/month.   The ESPN+ gives access to a lot of wrestling matches most of which I don't give a damn about but there are the occasional matches - like yesterday's ASU @ Cornell match that I do watch.  And the FOX ONE channel provides access to the Big Ten wrestling matches.   I quit watching yesterday's dual when Larkin's opponent was falsely given a four count for back points when at best it might have been two.   The officiating in that match was atrocious but I'm sure the hometown Cornell fans liked it.

Hey Thumper, sounds like you've been thumped in the head just one to many times....

Listen to yourself. You weren’t there, yet you’re disputing someone who was—simply because you don’t want it to be true. Reading your prior comments, that much is clear.

This is not the first time Zeke has done this, and as I already mentioned, there was no denial from him or anyone in his camp. Sprinting across the mat and counting down the final 5 seconds for your guy? Ok , Not common, but I can go with that .   Hiding behind the second official while doing it—knowing that it is common for a second official to count down the final seconds for the first official… well that takes it a step further. Shouting loudly enough for the entire crowd to hear, while counting two seconds ahead of the actual clock, is not “normal behavior.”  Pure grime.  Your original comment was correct. This is ridiculous only it’s absolutely ridiculous that he did this.  I’m simply stating what happened.

Why would he count two seconds early if it were going to hurt his own wrestler? He wouldn’t. This was clearly intentional, and again, it’s not the first time.

These are facts. He positioned himself behind the official. You can turn up the ESPN+ audio and hear him start counting at “five” when there were still seven seconds left. He ran across the mat to do it.

I’m far from the only person who was there and noticed this, or who has talked about it since. And no, you don’t need to be an expert in human behavior to recognize the difference between a smirk of excitement after a takedown and a smirk from someone who knows their plan worked.

Did you make your text larger because youre angry? Youre speculating. You cant know. Thats not an opinion its indisputable. Abscence of of denial is not an admission of guilt and i dont think youre a proffesional smile interperter. Ive never seen a someone cope so hard over a win... Shapiro got taken down. Its ok. He won.
