In 1971 Cornell and Syracuse were unable to attend the EIWA Championships at Navy due to a blizzard.

Did the EIWA use wildcards to send some of those wrestlers to NCAA's.?  Seems like some equitable adjustment was in order.   I wish John Harmon was still around - he would know.

The 1971 EIWA which included Penn State was not a qualifier for the NCAA's. There was an "Eastern Region" tournament held that year at Princeton the following weekend. That was the qualifier in 1971. It was never held again. From 1972 until    today the  EIWA is an NCAA qualifier. Prior to 1971 there was no such thing as qualifying. You could go to nationals with a 0-0 record. You could win your conference at one weight and two weeks later go up or down in weight class. Dropping a weight class just for nationals was common and made sense.
